Reports in France this evening suggest that Olympique Marseille midfielder Samir Nasri has agreed a €17.5 million deal with Arsenal which would see the Frenchman come for around 12.5 million pounds.
As we reported yesterday, Nasri announced to French Television cameras that his game against RC Strasbourg could be his last, and reports today suggest that a deal has already been struck between the two clubs.
The 20-year-old is a talented midfielder who can play on either wing, famous for his feint’s and pure creativity, Samir has been likened to former Real Madrid star Zinedine Zidane.
Local Marseille newspaper La Provence reported this evening that both OM and Arsenal have agreed a deal which will become official in the next few weeks.
Marseille Supporters Forums are already saying their ‘goodbyes’ to Nasri, another sign that the play-maker is on his way out of the French giants.

Nasri will wear number 12
And Ben Arfa will wear number 8
DAMN whatever the case, i can’t wait
May 18, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Numero uno! Great deal, I belive.
May 18, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Ah, sooo close…
May 18, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Please be true lets get our signings done quick this summer.
May 18, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Yep.
May 18, 2008 at 4:51 pm
wishful thinking
May 18, 2008 at 4:52 pm
La Provence are a well respected source in France and normally are right when they say a player is going to another club, I wouldn’t put this news up If I didn’t think it was genuine mate.
May 18, 2008 at 4:56 pm
I’m convinced we have Nasri. All the comments from his agent and Marseille and Wenger being quite would make this story very reliable. There’s Hlebs replacement right there, assists and goals to come from this lad.
May 18, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Definitely, Hleb, Rosicky and Nasri in the same team is pretty mouth-watering though, especially if the Belarussian does stay!
May 18, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Do you think this would spell the end of Hlebs career?
He plays in the same postions?
May 18, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Praise be to Arsene Wenger for the duo. More of that Prof.
May 18, 2008 at 5:05 pm
It look like it’s true the sky sports site have just mentioned something on this
May 18, 2008 at 5:06 pm
This is a great deal if it accomplished… I wish that to happen in a few weeks then the arsenal club will be winner in EPL and champions League
and will be stronger more than previous season… I can’t wait to know what will happen
May 18, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Potentially mate. But Nasri is more versatile than Hleb, he can play all across midfield and as a supporting striker. We’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
May 18, 2008 at 5:09 pm
I cant find anything about this on skysports’ site steer0, can you link me?
May 18, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Yes mate, click here
May 18, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Negotiations are expected to go well between Arséne Wenger and OM Chairman Papa Diouf. The latter is good friends with Wenger and I’m sure he’ll secure the transfer of Nasri to Arsenal.
May 18, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Once we have signed Nasri who else do you think we will sign Gooner Chris?
May 18, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I don’t have names mate, I know Wenger is in for a centre back and possibly another central midfielder.
May 18, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Oh ok so what you think the chances are of us signing Yaya Toure because I feel he is better than Makoun and would play better next to Cesc.
May 18, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Great deal Mr.Wenger u r a great tactitian
May 18, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Yep, he is better than Makoun. The chances of us signing Yaya? We’ll see in the summer, If Pep Guardiola decides to let some players go, I think Wenger will go in for him.
May 18, 2008 at 5:21 pm
I feel that we need a Vidic type defender and i would be over the moon if we signed Yaya Toure. Even possibly ben arfa, you’re killing me by asking me to decide between ben arfa, nasri or diego but i’ll probably take Diego cos i think he just edges it as the perfect replacement for Hleb
May 18, 2008 at 5:23 pm
hopefully he could cover for cesc as well so we dont burn him out
May 18, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Mexes would be my wish with Yaya Toure and Ben Arfa/Diego and finally Mario Gomez.
May 18, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Diego, Ben Arfa and now Sammo Nasri hmm… who needs rooney, ronaldo and teves.
May 18, 2008 at 5:26 pm
yes yes yes
May 18, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Dear Mr Wenger said he would sign someone by the end of this week who was ‘talented’. Could this be the signing that all the fans are waiting for?! I def hope so. One thing, young Arsene also said in the same interview was that it was likely he would sign a British based player and a foreign based player. I’m still thinking Niko Kranjcar possibly….
May 18, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Diego signed a new deal with Werder and said he’s not leaving so I don’t think he’ll being coming to Arsenal
May 18, 2008 at 5:27 pm
that article actually says very little about us signing nasri. im certainly not going to get my hopes up, you shouldnt either. Cant see us signing both nasri and ben arfa too. Id be amazed.
Think we might sign one of them though…
May 18, 2008 at 5:28 pm
loooool.
You need to be a little more realistic mate. Why would be bring another striker in????
May 18, 2008 at 5:28 pm
im never convinced until it’s on the official website im always sceptical about transfer but i would like to see him playin for us so hopefully its true
May 18, 2008 at 5:34 pm
very good! very sweet!! but include VELOSO (miquel)
May 18, 2008 at 5:35 pm
yea…hopeeeeeeeeeee its true
May 18, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Marseille forum’s are saying goodbye to Nasri, it’s starting to look like this transfer is gonna happen.
May 18, 2008 at 5:41 pm
I wouldnt mind Thuram to come in and help people like Senderos and Song out for one season – I know he’s old and he’s a lot slower than he used to be but I think his presence as a stand by for Toure and Gallas and his experience may not be a bad thing. I’d only want him if he was released by Barca though and we didnt have to pay a transfer fee.
May 18, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Thuram has been pretty poor for Barca this season, I’d only recruit him as a defensive coach, not as a player.
May 18, 2008 at 5:42 pm
I dont think Gallas and Toure are vocal enough coaches to guide Song, Senderos and Nordvoit so Thuram may be useful as a squad player.
May 18, 2008 at 5:45 pm
In any case for all the attacking options we will have with people like Cesc, Theo, Rosicky, VP and poss Nasri next season we need a bit more mettle in the team – Diaby could as he is strong but I worry hes too offensive…
May 18, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Gooner Chris, do you have a link to the marseille forums? I speak french.
May 18, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Why Thuram though?
Keown and Adams; two ex-players I’d love to see back at Arsenal.
May 18, 2008 at 5:46 pm
gooner, click on the ‘goodbye’ on my comment and it will take you to the forum.
May 18, 2008 at 5:48 pm
WICKED NEWS.
new team:
EDUARDO/ADE
BEAN ARFA
NASRI CESC YAYA.TOURE WALCOTT
CLICHY GALLAS ALBIOL SAGNA
ALMUNIA
May 18, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Hahahaha.. We -WON’T- sign both Ben Arfa and Nasri. Just forget it. At the time being, due to press reports, it is more likely we sign Ben Arfa.
And taken into account this article and the “fact” that we’ve “signed” Nasri is taken out of nothing, it’s a pretty long shot.
May 18, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Thanks a lot Chris, I’ve been checking back and forth for the last week. Nasri, Toure and a decent centre back would do me. Wouldn’t mind Ben Arfa though.
May 18, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Yeah Adams in a heartbeat – but I think he wouldnt be happy as just a defensive coach as I read an article yesterday where he has asked for a lot more responsibility at Pompey. Just think he’d help Gallas in his vicinity and he has a lot of European pedigree and knows Wenger well as he was his first coach at Monaco.
May 18, 2008 at 5:52 pm
guys I really hope this is true, but It MIGHT not be i know I am ruining the fun but I hope it is true, those saying ben arfa and nasri coming thats rubbish, if we get Nasri we WONT get ben arfa
May 18, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Ben Arfa is going to Marseille, this was practically confirmed by Aulas last week. This is going to make way for Nasri’s move to Arsenal, everything fits into place. I’ll think you’ll find Samir Nasri playing in this Arsenal team in August.
May 18, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Sease and secle don’t worry yourself……
Nasri’s coming, Ben Arfa is delibeating between us and OM
Either way we’re signinag someone for more than 10M has to be a good thing
BO BO BO BO BO BO
May 18, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Here’s a link for Nasri’s 3-2 goal yesterday against Strasbourg.
May 18, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Cheers Hente
May 18, 2008 at 5:57 pm
I’m thinking just Nasri or Ben Arfa (more likely Narsri, and he’s certainly a Wenger-type player) and a center back (again, hopefully vidic-type cos we don’t need another pacy athlete like W.G and K.T) will come.
I would like us to sign someone like barry but i can’t see it happening. Also, Diaby is overdue a run of say10 games in the heart of midfield to see what he can do and also Song (not to mention promoting an English youth to the fringes??). Needs to be slightly less offensive and always looking to take on 3 or 4 players though!! Great blog mate
May 18, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Anyone got any good chants for him that I can sing at the east stand upper next season?
May 18, 2008 at 6:03 pm
SO does everyone think Nasri is Hlebs replacement or is the Belarusen going to be happy signing on with an improved contract. I personally believe Wenger may lay down the law and have a real heart to heart with him. I dont think it has got to the Reyes situation yet where he is not going to be happy playing for us esp as Hlebs a lot older and a lot more mature. I personally think that if Hleb goes we will get a nice transfer fee for him and Vela will go on the wing. I know Wenger says he sees him as a striker but its unfair if Walcott continues to play on the wing as an understudy to Eboue and Vela goes straight to a striker.
May 18, 2008 at 6:03 pm
hail the NEW ZIDANE!
SAMIR NASRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE NEW ZIZI!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 18, 2008 at 6:06 pm
“hail the NEW ZIDANE!
SAMIR NASRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE NEW ZIZI!!!!!!!!!!!!”
We havent actually signed him yet chill!
May 18, 2008 at 6:09 pm
why not ben arfa and nasri???!!??
they are different players. yes.. ok … they both won’t come but the excuses used to justify this are wrong.
they are not the same player. they both have different attributes. nasri has more power and holding ability while ben arfa has more flair and a more direct attacking approach.
I have seen them play many times this season. Those that say they are the same player should get their eyes checked.
May 18, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Ben Arfa would have been a better signing. I really can’t see nasri making much of an impact, he’s not an out and out winger with pace which Arsenal need, he doesn’t score many goals and he’s too weak. Arsenal need a player with strength and skill, a quaresma type but without the attitude. They really should have got ribery last summer, he’s the most influential and most consistent wide player in the world and gives 100% every game. A striker who is a clinical finisher, vincent kompany to be the new central midfielder and a centre back who can actually defend would also be helpful.
May 18, 2008 at 6:10 pm
I hope this is true, it’s not all the time that Wenger does deals that just come out of the blue, also he has shown that he is willing to pay millions for a player, if he thinks they are worth it.
Henry, Reyes and Wiltord were all over 10 million and we knew they were coming before the deal was finalised. Won’t relax till it’s confirmed though and would be a fantastic signing (if he works out).
Bring on the defender, and maybe another nice surprise.
May 18, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Nasri doesn’t score many goals????
:rolls eyes:
May 18, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I’ve been saying for ages that they should buy him. He’s so creative and will be perfect. A keeper, a defender, a holding midfielder and a forward are still needed though. I would suggest Coupet, Dunne, Yaya Toure and David Villa
May 18, 2008 at 6:13 pm
David Villa, Kompany and maybe Zapata or someone. Thats my wish list
May 18, 2008 at 6:13 pm
if we miss out on nasri i think ill cry.
nobody should get their hopes up tho. There are no solid quotes of any agreement from that link.
people who are giving him shirt numbers are acting like petulant kids.
ps dont be so quick to forget how good hleb was this season. at times people were rating him better than ronaldo.
sagna-kolo-gallas-clichy
hleb/rosicky-diaby/yaya-cesc-nasri/merida
rvp/bendtner ade/theo
That is an incredible squad with eduardo to come back.
May 18, 2008 at 6:14 pm
I dont understand where all these strikers are going??? Adebayor, Van Persie, Walcott, Bendtner, Eduardo, Vela…. we cant buy another one!!!
May 18, 2008 at 6:14 pm
hei some one there tell me which club did our beloved flamstar go to are they playing champions league football next season.
Well i saw Nasri on Utube and my we need that guy, Le boss should just make it happen my fingures crossed
May 18, 2008 at 6:17 pm
May 18, 2008 at 6:17 pm
hail the NEW ZIDANE!
SAMIR NASRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE NEW ZIZI!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, the next zizi actually means the next dick in french slang, I assume you mean the next Zizu!
May 18, 2008 at 6:18 pm
I dont want to dampen people’s spirits on here but talk of Nasri already being an Arsenal player is very premature. I have friends in France and at the moment the only concrete news is that Arsenal are definitely interested in Nasri. His agent only said yesterday that Arsenal want the player but at the moment there is no deal. Marseille want around 14m for the player and this could be a stumbling block in the deal. So Arsenal are very interested but so are Juventus. Nasri has not agreed a move to Arsenal but we are favourites. Thats the news from France
May 18, 2008 at 6:19 pm
CLICK THE ABOVE LINK…..
ENOUGH SAID… WE NEED THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!
May 18, 2008 at 6:20 pm
“Flamster” was going to sign for Birmingham in the summer of last year.. Am i right?
May 18, 2008 at 6:20 pm
David Villa and Raul Alboil will arrive in a gilberto+ cash deal, Nasri is in, thats all our new faces. Kolo and Diaby will share the central midfield role and Possibly Sabastien Frey arrives from Fiorentina to give competition to alumnia.
May 18, 2008 at 6:22 pm
A couple of days before that move was about to go through, Wenger promised that he’d give Mathieu more playing time, therefore he decided to stay.
May 18, 2008 at 6:23 pm
al – no way villa, that wood be 6 strikers!!!
May 18, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Thats true what gooner says… we are always linked to young french players with bags of promise and then out of the blue we buy a totally different young french player like diaby or sagna who we havent heard of before. Anyway if we dont get Nasri it wont be the end of the world. Maybe not next season, or even the season after but soon there will be one name on everyones lips…… Wilshire!
May 18, 2008 at 6:25 pm
this is a translated article from France
http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.laprovence.com/articles/2008/05/18/451926-Region-en-direct-Mercato-quels-renforts-pour-l-OM.php
May 18, 2008 at 6:25 pm
I hope there is truth to all this. Seems a bit quick since he only just played yesterday. By the way Wenger did say he was going to buy a premiership player and I have a feeling it will be a centre back as this is a position which is hard to fill for a foreigner due to the nature of the Premiership and our past players such as Cygan namely have not been up to the task. The jury is still out on Senderos and Song. Any suggestions? Maybe Yobo…..
May 18, 2008 at 6:26 pm
nasri is talented.
jus saw da clip… wicked player!
would def b an asset at The Emirates!
May 18, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Wenger said he might go in for a Prem player.
May 18, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Gunner Jillu there was a rumour going round about Richard Dunne but i’m not sure, and i doubt that Yobo will come. Also to Seb I am with you on that, my brother is good friends with Jack. Future England star
May 18, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Nasri will be coming.
If Wenger lets us down on transfers this season… sack the muppet.
Im sick and tired of his antics.
May 18, 2008 at 6:31 pm
DITTO. Get rid of Wenger if he doesnt get the players. 3 yrs now. I don’t want to see 4. He has cost us big time in the last few years.
May 18, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Jack Wilshere is a massive prospect, so is Jay Thomas but we can’t hype up our Youth players too much, a dip in form, or a bad injury could differ our opinions on them.
May 18, 2008 at 6:32 pm
I dont think Dunne because we wouldnt be able to def offer him first team football… Thanks Joe, I think Jack Wilshire is one of only 2-3 players in the reserves that will make it at Arsenal though. Barazite poss and I liked the look of Rui Fonte although sometimes he is too wasteful.
May 18, 2008 at 6:34 pm
i agree. Wengers has his three years. They should reconsider his position if he cant bring home the silverware.
If he was at Man Utd/ Chel/ Liv he would be sacked by now. What makes him so specia.
He needs a wake up call. DAVID VILLA was begging for a place at Arsenal and Wenger bacially tells him to F*** off and shows him the middle finger. Cesc also wants him here but its not gonna happen cos of Wengers stupid policies.
May 18, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Rui Fonte won’t make it at Arsenal – I promise you that.
May 18, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Fair enough we havent won any trophies in 3 yrs but we’ve come mighty close to it… Wenger loves the club as much as we do, and the last few seasons we’ve had the new stadium to contend with which has taken adjusting, financially and for the team.
May 18, 2008 at 6:35 pm
come on the ARSENAL
May 18, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Who would be your candidates Chris?
May 18, 2008 at 6:38 pm
For boss?
Tony Adams, Martin Keown as back up
May 18, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Mine would be Wilshire, Barazite and Nordveit looks good. What’s going to happen to Merida next season? Back on loan or in the Carling cup squad.
May 18, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Would you want Wenger gone?
May 18, 2008 at 6:39 pm
And i ment to end that in a question mark/
May 18, 2008 at 6:40 pm
wenger gone! FUCK OFF!
May 18, 2008 at 6:40 pm
I’d like to see him see out his contract first, and review the past 3 seasons from there, and If they’ve been successful seasons; I’d renew his contract.
May 18, 2008 at 6:40 pm
back on loan hopefully to a top league to gain experience
May 18, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Gooner Chris – Do you think Nasri is a certainty?
May 18, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Cant beleive how fickle some of you are saying to sack Wenger. We have become one of the most respected teams in the World due to him!
Everyonone knows we were so close this season we just got unlucky towards the end.
Not a big fan of Dunne
May 18, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Merida will come back to the club, I think he’ll get a few more chances in the FA & CC.
May 18, 2008 at 6:42 pm
I think we will be succesful as long as we can stop conceding silly goals and that just comes with more experience. Main reason we lost the league – Sagna got injured.
May 18, 2008 at 6:45 pm
And Lassana Diarra left
May 18, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Back to the same old debate.
With a fully fit squad, we would of won the Premier League, and would of been in the CL final, we never seem to have that luck though.
May 18, 2008 at 6:48 pm
WENGERS OFF HIS FECKING TROLLEY
we have been booted out of every major competition this season cos of his incompetence. He didnt want to recruit in Jan… He didnt want to play Walcott instead of Eboue… he paired Senderos with Gallas…
SPURS 5 ARSENAL 1 CARLING CUP
MAN UTD 4 ARSENAL 1 FA CUP
LIVERPOOL 4 ARSENAL 2 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
CHELSEA 2 ARSENAL 1 LEAGUE
MAN UTD 2 ARSENAL 1 LEAGUE
FUCK ME….
AND THEN HE DEFENDS EBOUE. HE NEEDS HIS FECKIN HEAD EXAMINED…..
FUCKERY…
so SOGOS… whoever you are… you can keep suckin AW’s cock… but its not gonna win us anything MATE!
May 18, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Sorry to bring this up but i still can’t get over not getting that penalty in the first leg against Liverpool, and then for us to give away a penalty in the next 20 seconds after we scored.
May 18, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Itll happen soon, 1 creative player (as long as Hleb doesnt go) and one or two defensive players and we’ll be back in there. We need Rosicky to be fit though.
May 18, 2008 at 6:49 pm
rightly said!
May 18, 2008 at 6:50 pm
what does FUCKERY mean?
May 18, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Joe mate.. I know.. that was a fucking terrible decision.
May 18, 2008 at 6:52 pm
The ref was from the same village as Kuyt as well. Could only happen to us ay.
May 18, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Well the ref and Kuyt were literally neighbours so I wasnt surprised and Hleb was being targeted by refs for some reason… they werent giving him anything in any competition… eg Milan
May 18, 2008 at 6:54 pm
He did go down like he’d been sniper’d though
May 18, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Yeah he did, but so did Babel in the second leg…
May 18, 2008 at 6:57 pm
im happy that clichy and sagna arent in europe though
May 18, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Nasri is good but the person who said he doesn’t score enough goals is right. He has 11 goals in 122 matches for Marseilles and only has 6 this season which isn’t that good. Hleb got 4 last season so thats not a big improvement in terms of sorting out our wide men scoring issues.
May 18, 2008 at 6:58 pm
He has been unlucky in terms of goalscoring this season. Nasri always goes for goal when he’s in the position to – the complete opposite of Hleb.
May 18, 2008 at 6:59 pm
you dumb dumbs…
so optimistic. the team is shit. we have nothin on Man Utd. They could shit all over us, any day of the week.
You all know thats true. Thats why they won the league and are in the CL final.
our squad is made up of cheap ethnic players with good feet but not enough talent to be at the top.
its sad but its true. and its what your all thinking. even if it isnt right to think that way. its the truth.
we need to get more good brits like walcott involved. that is why we are off the mark.
i agree with the sack wenger comments if this crap continues.
May 18, 2008 at 7:00 pm
That video i was watching on youtube taht someone gave in this blog showed him shooting from all over the place??
May 18, 2008 at 7:01 pm
He does have 10 assists this season which is impressive but he needs to score more.
May 18, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Young Guns have also just confirmed this news.
May 18, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Harry considering we was 5 points clear this season in January, we can’t be as bad as you say we are?
May 18, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Bloody great news if this is true along with Ben Arfa. I still reckon we need a new keeper, someone who will save us 6 points a season like spunky did and cech has done for the chavs.
Any news on the Man City defender we were in for?????????
May 18, 2008 at 7:03 pm
L’Equipe on the 15/05/2008 reported that Ben Arfa is probably Arsenal bound, despite no definitive statements from either of the two clubs. Other sources are suggesting that his medical with The Arsenal is rumoured to be taking place shortly.
Has this any truth to it Gooner Chris?
May 18, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Good choice and decision arsene. Bring in more soonest
May 18, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Nasri to Arsenal. I cant wait! So exciting…
May 18, 2008 at 7:07 pm
You bunch of idiots. The lot of you believe any drivel that gets written on these not very reliable sites and get disappointed when it all ends up as nothing.
I do hope it is but i doubt Arsene would spend that sort of money, perhaps he will ! who knows ?
May 18, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Has anyone seen Fabregas juggling the ball on fire.. i have the link..
May 18, 2008 at 7:07 pm
I’ve backed my articles up with sources.. prick.
I’m not taking this information out of the fucking air.
May 18, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Yep Joe.
http://www.skysports.com/nikelivefabregas
May 18, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Lets just hope Madrid or an Italian team dont suddenley come and steal our thunder…
May 18, 2008 at 7:11 pm
benji boi or whatever your fucking name is shit vomits out your mouth mate. You are chatting the biggest load of shit I ever heard. Sack wenger HAHAHA
Man U we played our reserves we didnt need to win, both full backs were secnd string and were at fault fo nearly all goals
Spurs we played a young team woop woop
Liverpool two pen decisions fucked us over how was wenger to blame!?
chelsea we played well sagna got injured
man u we knew it was over and Man U at old trafford 1-2 is hardly the worst result ever
Wenger has brought us to where we are with v little funds. get over it he is one of the best managers in the prem dont even deny that!

May 18, 2008 at 7:15 pm

May 18, 2008 at 7:15 pm
u dont have to believe me but thats what im saying oh chelsea mightt but in a late bid for ben afra to stell him from us.
May 18, 2008 at 7:15 pm
sure sure
May 18, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Don’t be too convinced he’s coming…Arsenal and AW always tend to suprise us with transfers. It may be a classic AW smoke screen.
Get ready for some 20 year old Mongolian we’ve never heard of signing for us, with AW then saying he’s “a big player, not a big name”.
Please let either arfa or nasri come.
May 18, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Hey charlie does your contact’s first name start with t end in e and his second start with s and end in n? (both 3 letter words
May 18, 2008 at 7:17 pm
We’re signing 100 players this summer and 50 on a bosman free yay!!!
cumon ppl lets wait and see which 2 or 3 players come in
saying we’re signing this player and this player and this player is just pointless
god its like letting 10 year olds loose in Toys R Us!!
May 18, 2008 at 7:17 pm
What worries me is that the English press havent said much about it – apart from a small piece in the Sun a week ago, theres not been much said apart from on the net.
May 18, 2008 at 7:18 pm
lol Charlie. I’ve seen more truth in The Sun.
May 18, 2008 at 7:19 pm

May 18, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Samir Nasri says it would be a ‘pleasure’ to stay at Marseille, but appears happy to wait until the end of the season before finalising a new contract.

May 18, 2008 at 7:30 pm
supposedly we tried to sign Robinio again in the winter tranfer window but Reals new Manager said he wanted to keep him. I think Robinio is a never going to happen, his price will go up every year and we arent exactly going to splash out over 20 mill for a player
May 18, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Robinho your having a laugh we will not pay him 100k a week
May 18, 2008 at 7:31 pm
no chris i pasted soemthing from sky sports i was going to ask if it was true, which it is obviously not,.
May 18, 2008 at 7:34 pm
robinho… at bloody last
May 18, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Charlie, its great to see you’re reading my articles.
May 18, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Anyone remember back in 2005 when arsenal were “getting” robinho? i really don’t think he will come but apparantley he’s had an argument with the Real management so who knows.
May 18, 2008 at 7:36 pm
robinho… my left bum cheek!
May 18, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Robinho chose Real over Arsenal, probably because of their European pedigree and climate!!!!

I believe Wenger will buy Nasri and Ben Arfa. Nasri is an ideal replacement for Hleb who is determined to leave and Ben Arfa is in line for the injury prone Tomaz Rosicky. Diaby will be played through the middle, im convinced of that and I feel Wenger will add a powerful centre back like Zapata, M.Richards or Kompany.
May 18, 2008 at 7:50 pm
i think it was Sky Sports site that was saying that both of them [ben arfa and nasri] were being lined up for a straight swap???
May 18, 2008 at 7:51 pm
خبر رااائعـ… نتمنا ان يحصل
May 18, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Yea it was sky sports but that was just newspaper talk, Ben Arfa is a Lyon boy he would never sign for Marseille that is a major step down!! Plus Nasri would never play for Lyon he wants to go abroad. I can definitely see Wenger announcing these two, Ben Arfa and Nasri as his new signings!
May 18, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Okay, i don’t really have a clue on the French league to be honest.
May 18, 2008 at 7:57 pm
I dream of Arsene Wenger unveiling these two at a press conference.
May 18, 2008 at 7:57 pm
If we do get these i can’t wait to play Fifa 09
May 18, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Ben Arfa will stay in Ligue 1, I do know that.
May 18, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Haha me too!
May 18, 2008 at 8:03 pm
me three..
May 18, 2008 at 8:08 pm
People saying that Ben Arfa is better than Samir Nasri are either blind or fucking dellusional.
Ben Arfa is extremely light weight, whereas Nasri looks lightweight, but is very difficult to take the ball off because of his superb ball control.
Nasri has the skill, technique and class to be a future Arsenal legend. I just hope the news which has come out in the next couple of days ends with the headlines: “Nasri Joins Arsenal.”
May 18, 2008 at 8:12 pm
I get chills when i hear that phrase lol. Do you think there is any truth in Robinho? Wenger did say he’d make some signings in the next weeks didn’t he. Also on Ben Arfa, he can’t actually sign till after the french fa cup can he?
May 18, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Robinho is very much like Reyes in terms of personality, he won’t leave sunny Spain, for drab, rainy England.
May 18, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Okay, well i’m going to go watch LOST. Nice speaking to you mate.
May 18, 2008 at 8:22 pm
You too feller.. check again tomorrow.. see if theres any more news on this story
May 18, 2008 at 8:23 pm
looking at the photo at the top,we’ve got a dead ringer for ‘Ferris bewler’.(not to many days off please..aaahhh ha ah ha !!!!!)
May 18, 2008 at 8:24 pm
hahaha
May 18, 2008 at 8:28 pm
We can speculate all day but I have a feeling that Wenger will bring max 2 attacking players. An he certainly aint going to splash over 20 mil on one player so I think Robinho is a no no plus why would he leave Real, they have won the league, they have a pretty good team, and prob wants to add CL to his belt. If his Nasri story is true, then I can see Ben Arfa coming as he has a left foot that we lack. I dont see us signing another sriker as we have possibly 6 already in the squad….Ade, Walcott, Bentender, Eduardo, Van P and Vela. Next I reclon a CB, possibly a back up RB and a big maybe a central midfielder
May 18, 2008 at 8:29 pm
For all those who are kicking Arsene’s Arse.. Think about the fact of some 20m£+ transfer budget a year compared to others in so called big four. Gaffer’s done truly amazing job. My only worry is that there’s some worrying signs that we’re becoming a bit of a feeder club when it comes to really big clubs. For example Fabregas, it’s still more like when does he leave rather than IF he’s gonna leave.
May 18, 2008 at 8:36 pm
to all you twats calling wenger a muppet. WHO would you replace him with? Anyone can piss money away and not win anything ask Newcastle boro spuds etc. And the quote about if it was man u he would have been sacked look at thier stats. They went 3 years with just an fa cup. (and no CL final).
May 18, 2008 at 8:39 pm
How are we a feeder Club? Which great player have we lost tyhat we didn’t want to? Cesc will go not beacause we’re a feeder club but because he’s spanish and he’ll want to go home sometime. Ronaldo will leave the mancs within the next 2 years does that make them a feeder club?
May 18, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Robinho? Its bollocks, too expensive he is.
May 18, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Ok, maybe the feeder word was bit wrong but players seem to be heading somewhere else at the very best of age as a footballer. And this is because we just don’t have the money to pay their salaries.
..and I didn’t want Paddy to leave Inter.. for example.
May 18, 2008 at 8:52 pm
..sorry.. Italy in the first place.
May 18, 2008 at 8:54 pm
letting diarra go, picking almunia ahead of lehman and deciding not to play walcott regularly after eduardo got injured were three very bad decisions. Also not buying woodgate in the january transfer window and not buying anelka(or another decent finisher) from bolton at the start of the season, he would have put away the easy chances adebayor missed during the latter part of the season.
May 18, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Anybody think that a Goalkeeper might be coming? I’m Not convinced its a priority but for a while there’s been talk, just rumor, of Gomez. You know i always thought Frey at Fiorentina had an future Arsenal player about him. Him being french and top quality and all. Probably not going for him and he’s now in the champions league next season. Good left foot on Nasri’s goal against Strasberg or whatever, looks like we’re all waiting for confirmation that we signed the new bobby Pires.
May 18, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Lew.. I agree one thing, Walcott – Eboue thing. But I’m sure, everybody agrees that one. Manuel was great, there’s no way to blame anyone about that. Woodgate, erm.. Anelka? One goal at Blue Scums?
May 18, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Anelka? Piss off he’s only managed 2 goals since he joined chelsea, there’s better out there if we wanted another striker. I saw somewhere today all his transfer fees came to 80 odd million with all the moves he’s done. Must live out of a caravan.
May 18, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Lew.. I agree one thing, Walcott – Eboue thing. But I’m sure, everybody agrees that one. Manuel was great, there’s no way to blame anyone about that. Woodgate, erm.. Anelka? One goal at Blue Scums?
May 18, 2008 at 9:14 pm
hey chris jus wud like to say thanks for all the exciting news over the last week it is greatly appreciated, i hope we do get nasri…. fingers crossed
May 18, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Yup.. Finland says good night. It’s +2h here (0.18) and got to get up at 6am. Thanks for good debate to everyone.
May 18, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Hah, 8 and ) makes it look good!
May 18, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Anelka scored 23 goals in a year and a half at a crap team like bolton, I wouldn’t call that a bad record. And think of who anelka is playing ahead of at chelsea, lumphard and mikel, they’re not exactly in fabregas’s league when it comes to creativity are they. I can’t remember him getting many clear cut chances since he’s arrived at chelsea. Lehman’s far better than manuel, I can’t believe you’re even trying to argue that point.
May 18, 2008 at 9:36 pm
anelka is short term as is woodgate, wenger doest do buissness that way he would rather bring in some unknown and nurture their talent, also wenger has a policy of never buying back players so anelka would never of happend
May 18, 2008 at 9:37 pm
“letting diarra go, picking almunia ahead of lehman and deciding not to play walcott regularly after eduardo got injured were three very bad decisions. Wenger didn’t “let Diarra go” He’s a disruptive cunt who couldn’t wait 5 minutes to be number 1.
Walcott hardly ever had a good game from the start and had more impact as a sub. He’s looking ready now though.
Anelka is old history and a step backwards. Woodgate would have been a massive gamble as his fitness record makes RVP and Risicky look like the bionic twins.
Lehman gave a goal away in each of our first 2 matches that might be why Wenger was abit weary of picking him.
May 18, 2008 at 9:46 pm
i agree m gooner
May 18, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Samir joining Arsenal has been a dream of mine for quite a while..
I hope this is true !
May 18, 2008 at 9:49 pm
As long as we get rid of the show pony !!!!!!!!!!
May 18, 2008 at 9:55 pm
who are you refering to? eboue? hleb?
May 18, 2008 at 9:58 pm
It’s about time..
May 18, 2008 at 9:59 pm
but the bottom line is that diarra is a much better player than flamini and should have been first choice (no wonder he was pissed off) yet wenger couldn’t see that and look what’s happened now, he(wenger) only has himself to blame
May 18, 2008 at 10:02 pm
I’m sure Arsene had his reasons to let him go, besides he doesn’t get to play as a regular shortly after joining..Arsene always makes players prove themselves to him first and be patient (as what happened with a lot of players including Flamini and Theo who is still technically in that process lol)..
May 18, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Diarra left Chelsea and us because he couldn’t wait. Then on the day of his press conference when he joined Pompey he said he will leave if he gets an offer from a “big” club. He must obviously be bad news in the dressing room and for team spirit. The only thing I don’t understand about Wenger is his patience with Eboue. I hope we sell him.
May 18, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Wenger is one of the top 5 managers in the world no matter who you ask. Lots of people in football (not idiots who post on blogs) Say he is the best. So to say Wenger can’t see how good a player is is absolute bollocks. He knows exactly how good Diarra is that’s why he bought him.
He let him gop because he is a CUNT. When are you going to get that into your head? How can a manager that has done 2 doubles be so fucking stupid? grow up and make a valid point.
May 18, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Just because he’s a great manager doesn’t mean he can’t make bad decisions.
May 18, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Next season Arsenal FC
Adebayor/vPersie
Nasri /Cesc /Y Toure/Ben Afra
Clichy/Gallas/K Toure/Sagna
Almunia
May 18, 2008 at 10:45 pm
I agree he can make bad decisions. Like persevering with Eboue, But I honestly think that something (Not ability) was wrong about Diarra playing for Arsenal. I went to the CC cup game against Newcastle and he ran the game practically. Wenger can see that. We cant know what goes on behind the scenes and to make a mistake that seems so obvious to everyone else just doesn’t seem plausible.
May 18, 2008 at 11:10 pm
I am sure Wenger wont buy a DM player, as he already has a lot of contenders to replace Flamini, unless Gilberto leaves he will be the first choice player to play alongside Fabregas.
Also Gilberto can play for another 2-3 years untill Merida, Lansbury and Randall grow up physically, which would be ideal for their development as he is not young and wont stay long.
The stories about Ben Arafa, Samir Nasri and Robinho are all exciting but the Robinho one does feel like it wont happen mainly because he is more expensive than the others and would ask for a higher wage than what we can afford.
One thing does bother me, after all the talk of who will be captain next season, would Wenger take the N.10 T-shirt that he gave undeservedly to Gallas and give it to Nasri if he arrives?
Surely it will sell much more T-shirts than the Gallas ones.
May 18, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Anyone with common sense knows Robinho will not be coming to Arsenal so lets move on.
May 18, 2008 at 11:55 pm
I would like to see Hleb stay with Nasri but it’s highly doubful.
I think if we lose Hleb we need another player really to atleast improve numbers. Although, i would love to see more Walcott and players like Lansbury, Randall and Vela push for places and improve the squad.
I believe we will sign Nasri, maybe someone like Richard Dunne (28, big, tall, PL experience and relatively cheap I think – in Football Manager kid in me would hope and love Micah though but not gonna happen) and possibly a central midfielder who i don’t expect us to have heard of or certainly not considered.
Great site mate, this ArsenalAnalysis, Gunnerblog and Youngguns seem top notch.
Watch this space i guess…
May 19, 2008 at 12:44 am
I wud much prefer us to sign Ben Arfa tbh. Think he is a better player and he is very keen on arsenal and the way we play, he wud fit into the team better I think
May 19, 2008 at 12:56 am
robinio is a party animal. the reason he has fallen out with managment is hes been caught out night clubbing and got a big fine and dropped for a while.
hes a ego trip, no doubt he has talent but do we really want a player that may have a bad influence on a young impressionable squad?
i think we would be better off getting someone like nasri he wants the challenge of playing for a big club and wants to prove himself.
robinio thinks hes a great player and ome of his performances were dire a player who was more keen on which BIRD he was going to score with rather then against which team. london part capital of the world for a person like that would be like pouring petrol on fire
May 19, 2008 at 2:12 am
Madrid have opened contract talks with Robinho. Let’s stop dreaming. Teams like Chelsea, AC Milan and Inter would sign him in the blink of an eye.
Source: Tribal football. I know its unreliable but so are all the sites that claim his is signing with us
May 19, 2008 at 3:54 am
So after reading all these comments as well as the comments on other blogs. I have come to the conclusion that Arsenal will sign 15-20 guys this summer. Man Arsene was right when he said he has 220 players calling and saying they want to play for Arsenal. O.K. I think I know who is coming in this summer. Robinho, Ben Arfa, Nasri, Kompany, Gomez, Diego, M. Johnson, M. Richards, Dunne, Yaya Toure, Arshavin, Gomez, Barry, Aquilani, Nuri Sahin, Jean II Makoun, Gervinho, Ramsey, Kranjcar, Santa Cruz, Villa, Nzogbia, and Thurman. I may have missed a couple others, sorry if I left anyone out.
After securing the rights to all the players mentioned. Arsenal will sell Hleb, Cesc, Adebayor, Senderos, Eboue, Hoyte, Gilberto, and Gallas. That sounds about right.
All these moves will be made within the upcoming weeks. Arsene will announce the changes in his upcoming press conference.
To think it has only been one week since the season wrapped up. You gotta love silly season.
May 19, 2008 at 7:10 am
where is the web link to a french paper saying nasri has definitely signed?
all I can see in la provence is somehting saying ansri is leaving and it could be arsenal, among several interested clubs
May 19, 2008 at 8:40 am
well Wenger actually said himself in december that he ‘didn’t’ think diarra was more talented than the other players competing for that position i.e flamini and gilberto. I believe Diarra would have wanted to stay if he had been first choice. And surely Wenger knew about his personality before he signed him, he’s always going on about how important a player’s character is, so that would have been one of the first things he thought about when considering whether to buy him or not.
May 19, 2008 at 9:07 am
we did ok out of diarra deal 3mill profit in 6 months and anyone who cannot accept competition for places should not be in our team.
i think song and diaby will be the defensive midfielders. yaya could be a deal if we are to sell hleb to barca but pep is talking about signing more spanish players so that maybe a no no.
people should watch the man u game closely and see how song played in that game. he was all over their midfield and was clam when in possesion of the ball. Wenger does not think he will play the whole season but with diaby they could share the position and rotate there are many who think k toure will be pushed into midfield if sign a 10ft CH.
kolo will not play right back if sanga is fit and we are also looking at dabo as backup RB who is a similar player to sanga without the funky hair style.
all i know is ARSENE KNOWS and that is good enough.
May 19, 2008 at 9:12 am
yh if this deal wasn’t done than wenger would have def. talked and say that these are just rumours but him being unusually quiet suggest that there is some truth in it…same for afra as well
May 19, 2008 at 9:42 am
always a big hope but no cup so dissappointig we will see what will happen in the next couple of weeks cuz we are linked with Samir Nasri, Ben Arfa and Aquilani and u know Wenger he will not purchase all this players.
May 19, 2008 at 9:51 am
Hope Wenger signs the following Nasri, Ben Arfa, Yaya Tore, Kompany, Veloso, Villa. However, it is wishful thinking
May 19, 2008 at 9:58 am
We actually need Ben Arfa more than Nasri. Of course it depends on whether that schmuck Hleb leaves. If so get Ben Arfa and Nasri.
May 19, 2008 at 10:37 am

Rememba the whole baptista thing…. “Baptista has agreed terms with asrsenal…blah blah blah”
in the end, who got him????… REAL MADRID!!!!!
Wana tempt faith???
May 19, 2008 at 1:43 pm
If buying Nasri means we don’t buy Ben Arfa, then I will be displeased, as I think the latter is the superior of the two talents and what we need more, none of our midfielders are left footed, so it’ll add to stability and balance.
May 19, 2008 at 2:08 pm
WELCOME TO ARSENAL SAMIR NASRI.
May 19, 2008 at 2:18 pm
we had a new staduim to pay for so couldnt throw money around like chelski or manure(who are now 765 million in debt) so to Ojariko – you need to get a brain.the money was needed to get ground.wait until liverpool have to pay for a ground and spuds and see if they go so close to winning the league.people who doubt wenger after what he has done on smalll amounts of money are short sighted.let leeds utd be a example of what happens if you go spend crazy. arsene knows
May 19, 2008 at 3:04 pm
there has been little or nothing regarding Nasri to Arsenal in today’s press which after yesterday’s hot gossip is somewhat of a surprise. If there is any deal it is clearly a long way off happening.
Anyone know of any news in the french press?
May 19, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I seriously can’t imagine there are a bunch of idiots here asking for Arsene to be sacked or blaming him.
There are financial constraints at the club for the past 3 years. Take a look around how many big clubs has managed to moved from a 38,000 seat stadium to a state-of-the-art 60,000 seater stadium and still remain in the top 4? And if you put any other managers there, whom are UNABLE to bring in players at a low cost… then the club will be in financial trouble.
Then what? You have one or two good season and can’t support the wages, transfers and repaying for the stadium and end up like Leeds United? Or you have other managers who comes in, and unable to put us in the Champions League because he’s got a small transfer kitty? Bloody Morons… please look at the overall situation over the club before opening your mouth to blame the manager.
Of course, Arsene is not always right. Senderos and Eboue should not be playing as much games as they did this season. And he should have bought some players in January (we could possibly be enjoying winning the EPL and CL).
But given the overall results, Arsenal is doing just fine. Every club who moved into a new stadium has the similar problem in financial constraints and dipping in form. Please don’t think its as simple as playing Championship Manager or Fantasy Football.
May 19, 2008 at 3:26 pm
its amazing site thanks alot my friend
May 19, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Cheers Feller
May 19, 2008 at 3:37 pm
word is the deal has broken down
Nasri and his agent wanted a deal of base salary at 40,000 per week plus bonuses, appearances and incentives.
Arsenal are sticking to their guns (pun!) and will not up their original offer of 30,000 per week without bonuses or appearance fees.
BLAST IT!
Maybe Ben Arfa deal will be better dealt with

Word.. Who’s word is that?
Like I said, a transfer doesn’t happen overnight. Give it a couple of weeks, and if he hasn’t signed, obviously Wenger has given up.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatem_Ben_Arfa
Ben arfa has recently been the subject of a lot of transfer speculation because of his arguement with Karim Benzema and the manager preferring Benzema. This news had alerted a lot of managers but none so much as Arsene Wenger who has already left for France for discussions with Lyon on the players future. But before he left his last interview he was asked if he and who he was planning to make a transfer offer for, Wenger then replied that ” This season only two players have caught my eye and those two would be Valencia striker David Villa and Lyon winger Hatem Ben Arfa” stating that they have ” an unquenshible thirst to bring their teams to the top”.
On May 18th of 2008 Wenger told a French newspaper that Ben Arfa would be his number 1 choice to replace the seemly leaving Alexander Hleb. Ben Arfa himself talked to a French newspaper and stated that Arsenal were leading the chase and that he hoped that this deal could go through so he could play with his fellow national team-mates William Gallas and Gael Clichy.
On May 19th 2008 Ben Arfa was seen walking around the Emirates stadium with head scout Steve Rowley who filled in for manager Arsene Wenger who was still in France trying to finalise the deal with Lyon.

yes good idea pls let the distractions stop as our wounds of not winning a trophy this season have not healed. sign the best players who must guarantee us trophies. we know finance is not too good at le boss disposal but within the 2-3weeks let him conclude the retention and signing of quality players

Hi its arsene,
I just want to end speculation about the signing of Nasri, who infact looks like a dog.
I was thinking more old school, get kanu back in with a bit of wiltord down the sides, ive secured pascal cygan. I think we missed his presence this year. Im also interested in Titus Bramble who has shown great potential this year with wigan.
err err err bi.
Arsene.

Dunno where people are getting these impressions from. If a deal is agreed, it doesn’t mean it’s 100% done.
