Arsenal have announced that French fullback Gael Clichy has signed a new long term contract with the club.
The news comes just as the 22-year-old was linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona, with the player’s agent later denying the story.
France international Clichy, has enjoyed a superb season as the Gunners regular left fullback, and has set to be rewarded with his ever-present Premier League campaign with a new four-year deal.
Clichy confirmed his future at the club almost a month ago, when he revealed:
“Everything’s going well (contract talks) because my intention is clear: I want to stay at Arsenal. I would love to have a career here like Patrick Vieira or Thierry Henry.
“I would love to stay many years at Arsenal and leave my mark on the club. I’ve been in London for five years. If everything goes well I will stay here for at least eight years.”
I’m personally chuffed to bits, my player of the season. Quality defender who never gives in, his marauding attacking down the left is fantastic, he just needs to add a few goals for the icing on the cake next season!

Over the moon with this signing, the lad has so much stamina his lass must crap herself when he has got the horn.
Seriously though, he has been what I would class as the perfect signing – young fast and bags of tallent, but has been quiet off the pitch and was willing to wait for his chance. The lad is loved by every fan – not only Arsenal fans either as any football fan can not but admire the way this lad performs week in week out.
Best signing of the summer for me.

With a new french coach on the way, he will clearly change alot of stupid mistake which Domenech has made. I.E dropping Clichy and Sagna! I 100% bet they will be the new french left and right backs! Congrats to Clichy great player, one of my favourites!
Now if we lock up Ade & Fab4 to new long term deals I’ll be happy as a pig in shit!

I’m a gooner, but i think that evra has the slight edge – he has a left and right foot, his crossing is slightly better, and doesn’t need to take a touch to steady before he crossess – but I’m so in love with the clich its ridiculous – he wa s outstanding this season, and watching him play week in week out with the intensity and desire that is so clearly visible put a smile on my face

Wouldnt say chichy is better then evra at the moment but theres not much between them wich is a compliment to clichy as he’s only 22yrs old & will definetly be the 1st choice LB for france & arsenal for yrs..

Every time I went to the Emirates, Clichy is always the player who never puts a foot wrong. Evra is alright, but Clichy has passed him, and is soon to be out of sight. At 22, he is easily the best Left back in the world

To be honest ive not seen anything in them clips to show he is what we need right now..
We need someone thats going to do the dirty work when are backs are against the wall & someone that can support fabs & allow him to go forward to get a few goals & they were meant to be his best clips & i never see one good tackle though he does have quick feet & is better going forward..
Needs alot of improvment if he is going to make that defensive CM place is.. he has time but do we have time to wait for another season before we bring some silverwear home..
