McLintock: Silvestre Is A Very Good Signing
New Arsenal signing Mikael Silvestre has been praised by Gunners’ legend Frank McLintock who believes it’s a good bit of business done by Arsene Wenger.
The 31-year-old completed his £750,000 move last night and signed a 2-year deal and become another member of Arsenal’s almost all-French backline.
And McLintock, who skippered the club to the Double in 1971, insisted:
“Silvestre will be a very, very good signing for us.
“I never even thought about him but he is just the type of player we need. He has bags of experience and won’t cost a lot as he is 31.
“Being French, he’ll have no trouble settling in.”
Mikael is set to train with his new team-mates for the first time this morning and could make his debut against Fulham if Kolo Toure isn’t fit.

Yes we know what is called depth, but to have depth, your back-up player needs to be fit, doesn't he? His injury record at United speaks for itself. Cheap, but very ordinary signing, won't add much to the squad. So i guess no Inler for us then, this is probably our last signing…sad

These fans who doubts this signing are just reacting to the fact that he's a Man U reject. Silvestre will be a good signing becauce he can come in for anyone of our first choise back 4. We know he can play LB and CB, his abilty to play CB will give us the option to play Kolo at RB if Sagna is unavailable.
These Arsenal fans that doubt this signing are not thinking clearly because they see him as a Utd reject. I believe this to be a good acquisition as it will provide cover right across or backline, not just in the obvious CB and
LB but it will also allow Kolo to cover for Sagna.

Spot on, an excellent signing. Silvestre provides invaluable cover, experience and is just quality. This is Wenger at his prudent and opportunistic best. That said, Wenger should not stop here and sign a high quality dm.

Mikael silvestre is a brilliant signing he can play CB and LB if clichy gets injured we are buggered and this guy can be solid for us. Not so long ago i remba silvestre partnering rio at the back but then he got injuries and they bought vidic. Silvestre is lighting quick, good distribution and can pass a ball.
