Reports – AS Saint-Étienne's Matuidi Close To Gunners Move

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Saint Etienne’s deep-lying playmaker Blaise Matuidi according to Sky Sports News.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been linked with a number of midfielder’s this summer since declaring that he was looking to bring one quality player in midfield to the Emirates Stadium earlier this summer.
Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso, along with Everton targets Jonathan De Guzman and Stephane Mbia have all been reportedly targets for Wenger, who has lost key midfielder’s Mathieu Flamini, Gilberto Silva and Alexander Hleb during this transfer window.
Arsenal’s French-based scout Gilles Grimandi has seen the Matuidi in action for Les Verts and Arsene Wenger is also a known admirer of the Tolouse-born star.
However, it has now emerged that it is 21-year-old Matuidi that is set to join the Gunners, with it not known how advanced talks are between St Etienne and Arsenal.
French Under-21 International Matuidi joined Etienne from Troyes last summer, making 36 appearances for the Ligue 1 team last season and is one of France’s most sought-after prospects.

Just give us a player we've heard of before, not Messi och Kaka, but Silva, Alonso or someone that's known outside of his place of birth… please…
NO u need english team spirit for the premiership because when u go up to places like bolton, balckburn u need to fight physical battles which si what enlgish players are good at. They are not technically good but they give 100 percent and will fight to the very end ie gerrard vs middlesbourough?
He has the money to buy but cant afford some players wage demands..
Tbh i'd rather pass on this guy as i cant see him comming in & making a big impact like barry or alonso could have.
Wenger's said he's rotating the squad a little bit for the Newcastle game.. It means that Ade and Toure will start this time instead of being dropped.
I think it will look like this:
Almunia
Sagna – Toure – Gallas – Clichy
Walcott – Cesc – Song – Nasri
Adebayor – Van Persie/Bendtner
Youngguns say there has been no contact yet. Is this news more recent? He will definitely cost a lot. What about the guy Perrin?
I want Djourou, Song and Bendtner to start in place of Toure, Denilson and Adebayor.
Wenger added: “We are out to look, if we find the right players we will do it, one or two.”
Great news
JoeTodd- Where and when did u here this?

Matuidi is twice the player Gareth Barry is.
Just but someone and get it over with already. Wenger is gonna wait til the 11th hour so he can try get them on the cheap.
Like
all Gooners I am fed up with us being linked with half the midfieders on the planet and nothing happening. Matuidi sounds like he would be very good for Arsenal but we also need the experience of either Barry or Alonso. Lets just buy someone to bolster the squad both in numbers and belief.
u say dat but wen england were in a real battle on a rainy day against croata the english team spirit wilted under pressure and for me as long as the boy is good enough den get him in
anyone else think coquelin will be the new flamini in a year or 2?
