Match Report: Blackburn 0-4 Arsenal

Emmanuel Adebayor scored a hat-trick as Arsenal strolled to a comfortable victory over Blackburn at Ewood Park.

It was always going to be a test for Arsenal seeing as how the last performance away from home was a dire 1-0 loss to Fulham. After a stunning double win over Twente and Newcastle at the Emirates.

Nasri would not start due to a knee knock – despite travelling with the squad, but England hero Walcott would start in what would prove to be a football masterclass.

First Half

Arsenal started off with a bang, piling up attack on the Blackburn goal right from the start.

In the 4th minute Van Persie tried to curl in the ball from 30-yards but keeper Paul Robinson came to Blackburn’s rescue by punching away the ball.

Arsene Wenger made a wise decision in including Theo Walcott, in his starting line-up as the latter created havoc for the rival defenders throughout.

The Gunners shot into the lead in the 8th minute of play through Van Persie who gave finishing touches to a beautifully constructed move.

Goal: Robin van Persie (8)

Blackburn slowly started to build up the pressure as the match progressed and looked desperate to find the equaliser. In the 13th minute Emerton sent over a great cross from the right but Santa Cruz failed to guide his header goal wards.

Minutes later Santa Cruz made a great run into the rival defense and set up Roberts on the edge of the box, but Arsenal keeper Almunia dived to his left to keep the ball from entering the nets.

Minutes to go before the halftime whistle Rovers almost found the equalising goal but Santa Cruz header of Emerton cross missed the target narrowly.

Right at the stroke of halftime Adebayor put the Gunners up by two goals through a brilliant header off Denilson cross from the left flank.

Goal: Emmanuel Adebayor (45+)

Second Half

Arsenal had completely taken any wind that may have been in Blackburn’s sails with their second goal but the Gunners were not resting on their laurels. A cross met Kolo Toure who should have made it 3, but he failed to get the ball past Paul Robinson and a corner ensued. After a poorly defended corner, Emmanuel Eboue has a rasping drive saved by Robinson for another corner that would come to no avail.

Arsenal were passing the pall around the pitch oozing with confidence as Walcott was replaced by Song. Blackburn could not even muster up a single attack, and soon it was to be 3. Emmanuel Eboue was brought down in the area by Neil Warnock after a surging run, many though Eboue had dived. It was Adebayour who calmly put the ball hight into the net.

Goal: Adebayor (pen) (81 mins)

Each successful Arsenal pass was greeted with ecstatic “Ole”‘s from the traveling Gooners, as the cheered on the young pairing of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey, as they replaced Eboue and Denilson.

It was the 17 year-old Ramsey who made a mark on the game, making a mockery out of the offside trap to play in Adebayor who rounded Paul Robinson was hit home for his hat-rick.

Goal: Adebayor (90 + 2)

Adebayor’s hat-trick capped off a truly spectacular performance from the Gunners that showcased the young side’s raw and abundant talent.

Player Ratings

Almunia – 6: Had little to do, but was always there to collect dangerous crosses when needed.
Sagna – 7: A solid performance as usual, supplied well with passes on the right flank.
Toure – 7: Should have scored early in the second half, but a strong match at the back.
Gallas – 7: Marshaled the back well in order to keep calm after Blackburn attacks and secure a clean sheet.
Clichy – 7: Completed the Back Four’s wonderful performance, always a threat on the left.
Eboue – 7: Has really progressed as a player in recent weeks, some good passing moves and won the penalty.
Fabregas – 8: Quietly instrumental in every Arsenal goal, provided the foundations for victory
Denilson – 7.5: Some brilliant passing moves and supplied Adebayor with a perfect cross to head home
Walcott – 7.5: Electric pace tore apart Blackburn defence before setting up RvP, should have set up Eboue soon after, however carried on from where he left off in midweek to guide Arsenal to a win.
Adebayor – 9: Just the performance the Togolese frontman needed after the summer, a stunning performance and a deserved hat-trick.
Van Persie – 8.5: Cool finishing for the first goal, and showed great team spirit in giving Adebayor the penalty.

Subs

Song – 7: Did what was asked of him well, no mistakes.
Wilshere – 5: Anonymous, but was only on the field for a matter of minutes.
Ramsey – 7: Despite being on the pitch for less than 10 minutes, his through ball to Adebayor gave us a glimpse of what’s to come.

Very happy for Ade, let's hope the past will be left there, and we can concentrate on doing well. Very happy for Ramsey as well, guys got class. We sure as hell aren't missing that fool Hleb, but Flamini would have been nice. Maybe Song will be able to cut it now he's getting some more minutes.

Great performance. Ade and Van Persie are looking like the best strike partnership in the premiership.

Only in these easy games, though. Blackburn made some plays through the middle at the end of first half, and we clearly missed someone to destroy those plays. I'll be happy if we sign Mineiro.

Great game, always good to get a comprehensive AWAY win against a decent side like Blackburn.

is it just me or is Theo Walcott showing a bit of consistency, hmm, who would have thought.

Glad Abebayor opened his account, with a hat trick at that. hopefully many more to come.

Ramsey and Wilshere slotted perfectly right into the side, like their substitutions didn't lower the overall quality of the team one bit. That's impressive, that's depth.

I wonder how important they will be this season. Probably Carling Cup regulars both of them. Is it just
me or does our CC-11 look stronger, and younger, than ever?

i know maybe you guys may think i am crazy but i really thin adebayor is a total waste of space.

did you guys see how many times he was offside? he never seems to know the rules and many times he is so much way offside instead of just marginally offside. i am sure if its henry or wrighty, they would have better positioning and timing.

he makes like 10 offsides a game and if 10% of those are actually converted (without being offside by better positioning and timing) then i think henry and wrighty would have an extra goal a game.

yes he scored a hat trick but it was against paul robonsin for god sake. if it is a better keeper such as given or cech, he might not have scored even 1.

first goal was sucidal defending by blackburn and even in front of the open goal, robinson managed to get a hand to it. with better luck, the keeper might keep it out.

the 2nd goal was a penalty and it was not such a good penalty. it was kicked at body height and robinson almost got to it. lucky that robinson is not as agile and if the keeper is a better shot stopper like james, the penalty would have been saved.

the 3rd goal was actually almost an offside goal except for warnock who played ade onside. if you take out warnock who is at the far end of the field, then ade would have been miles offside again. and even during the 1 on 1 against paul robinson, ade almost missed it and needed a 2nd chance.

i dont know but i think wenger need to replace ade fast.

I agree with you damocles. Adebayor isnt as good as people say he is.
Looking at last season, yes, he scored 24 league goals, but the amount of chances he missed is just awful, he really needs to improve on converting chances.
And as you have said, he is offside alot. Off the top of my head, I think he was offside 66 times last season?

Carlos Vela will be a better striker

  22. Gunner Jillu says:

I remember thinking Andy Cole had no skill what so ever but you could never argue with his goal scoring ratio. A striker is there to score goals, or would you rather a striker who just plays fancy and does not score goals. Like I said I aint a great fan because of what he dd over the summer but it aint easy to find a striker that scores 30 goals a season and we have one. Also remember he played as a lone striker for much of the season with Hleb as his main support. So most of the respnsibility was on him to score

no Jillu ive seen carlos vela for more than 5 minutes in Spain and playing for Mexico and trust me on this one he will be a better player than Adebayor . he could score four goals next week and i would still say he is the most over rated striker at the club apart from Bendtner who is saw crap it just baffles me how he even gets in to are squad like i said on saw many occasions you take Adebayor into Portsmouth's team i guarantee he;s not getting no more that 13 goals a season

  26. james says:

Adebayor is not one of them type of strikers like Torres or Drogba that can pull a rabbit out of a hat turn nothing in to something in over words all he does is rely on assis and hopes hes on side

  27. JW19 says:

Adebayor main job is not to score 3 goals a game it is to annoy the opposition defence, get both CB on him so his partner is free to score. His job is similar to that of Heskey for England where he makes space for Owen/Rooney Adebayor makes space for Van Persie. This is the type of striker that we need as he offers us this difference compared to the skill of Van Persie or the predatory instincts of Eduardo

For God's sake, why moan after a superb all round performance like that! Yes, Ade did get caught offside too much but his overall contribution more than made up for it. I had to sit in with Blackburn fans and some of them were almost drooling after the big man's superb first touch that set up a one-two with Eboue in the second half. And what about Eboue and Denilson, who always seem to end up scapegoats? Both perfomed excellently and hardly put a foot wrong. Blackburn were restricted to a mere handful of chances and ended up totally demoralised long before the end. But not many teams will go to Ewood Park and beat them by four goals, that's for sure. Just enjoy the moment!

lets put it this way about adebayor.

any tom dick and harry knows that he is offline far TOO MANY TIMES.

if you bother to take note how he plays you will notice that his
    positioning is atrocious.

i think more than 50% of his offsides are due to poor positioning where he is already in offside position even before his teammates make the pass to him.

it has nothing to do with the timing of his run at all.

it is said that he is offside 66 times last season. if he can cut down to half this means that he might have an extra 33 one on one chances and if he can make 20% (due to his poor conversion rate) to goals this means its an extra 6 goals.

and if you claim his job is to make space for others and to annoy opposition defense then how come he is offside so many times?

many of the chances are nicely set up but its offside because of his poor positioning/timing of runs and instead of being 1 goal up, we lose possession which is hugely frustrating.

and let's face it. his conversion rate is far too poor.

any decent striker like santa cruz, mido or benni will scoare 20-30 goals in this arsenal team because of the way we play.

andy cole and fowler are good at manure and liverpool but when they left to join a “lesser” teams they became very ordinary. i am sure if ade leave, he will not score 30 goals let alone 20 goals.

on top of that his 30 goals also include a number of penalties.

some of you people are beyond belief, Adebeyor scored a hatrick why the hell are you moaning. Henry used to get caught offside loads to in his early days. Bottom line he scored 2 of his goals with runs in behind, JOB DONE.

Why not just enjoy a fabulous performance. Winning 4-0 away is not easy in this league and Blackburn are no mugs, we were just that good. CELEBRATE DONT MOAN YOU IDIOTS.

This team is looking great so get behind the boys. Summers over, for all those people who slagge dus off – Arsene knows, now put your pride away and realise this is better to be wrong about.

democles chats shit. never heard so much drivel. I give up, If you like to talk numbers then check out how many goals he scored last season, and how many goals he will score this season, forget offsides if he scores he does the job. I dnt care if he is caught offside 100 times tis seaon, if he scores 30 goals again, then he has done his job as a striker to score goals. Didnt think you lost points on the amount of offsides you get, news to me

Berbatov is just another case of money not well spent. Anyway good job to Kop for snatching Keane, making Manure facing 'reality' and forever keeping Sp*rs midtable.

    Oh yeah: Sp*rs 0 Aston Villa 2

That's what Rivaldo used to be as well.

Next role for Eboue is lone striker.

Few years from now Eboue will retire and become our Arsenal Football Director.

your visiting liverpool fan here. and i would say not to get carried away by the performance at blackburn. we beat derby 6-0 last year and everyone was shouting PREMIERSHIP! after that, albeit very nice performance.

But it doesnt work out that youll win the prem just because you get a high score. it was an impressive performance but blackburn made life tough for themselves by letting you play the way arsenal just love to play. on blackburns part their midfielders didnt help the defence at all, didnt close anywhere near quick enough and didnt play like blackburn. oddly enough they tried to play (possibly down to ince's naiveness as a rookie manager in the prem) and twice cut arsenals defence to bits in the first half- something else to worry about as it has been in every prem game arsenal have played so far.

but in attack, the strikers were masterful. adebayours header was absolutely lovely, he picked his spot like a veteran front striker of italy or germany. van persie, who i believe is one of the best strikers in the world currently (when not injured) scored whenby all right he shouldnt have, although i did wonder why the hell robinson had to come out so far and expose the right side of his goal. walcott was a total menace, athough he needs to find the balance between selfishness and supplying, the next step for him. arsenals attack was great, to match with anyones. its the defence im worried about, and you need a captain (notice how i dont mention gallas) good work, but tougher chalenges will come along then a blackburn team who are, if im honest leaking goals.
