Bendtner And Vela Expected To Continue Strike Partnership

Arsene Wenger’s Young guns face Sheffield United in the Carling Cup this Tuesday, with the youngsters and squad players expected to get a full 90 minutes. That means Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela will most likely partner each other on the night. We saw their frightening partnership in pre-season against Burgenland, Stuttgart and Ajax and they will look to continue that form Tuesday night.

Who ever saw pre-season will know that Bendtner and Vela have a great vision of each others game, with Bendtner dropping off to win headers and playing the ball in behind for the runs that the Mexican makes.

Personally, I think Bendtner can play alongside any striker at Arsenal like he proved he can play with Adebayor on Saturday at Bolton. But I think Bendtner combines the most with Carlos Vela, I feel the two can terrorise defences in the Carling Cup with the ” Big man, Little man ” combination and this partnership could end up winning us the trophy.

Predicted Line-Up:

Fabianski

G.Hoyte – Djourou – Silvestre – Gibbs

Wilshere – Ramsey – Randall – Merida

Bendtner – Vela

So what do you think people, are you looking forward to seeing the two in competitive action for the first time since that pre-season form, or would you prefer a different strikeforce?  Give your views over at Nicklas Bendtner News – the number one blog for all things Bendtner!

  1. adam says:

    i think he'll rest walcott

  2. GoonerChris says:

    Maybe mate.

Walcott could exploit Sheffield United's weak defence with his pace and would probably win us the game.

I can't see Lansbury, Ramsey & Randall starting in the same midfield against decent Championship opposition.

  3. ALi says:

Walcott ? don't think so why Not Fran Merida ?

  4. GoonerChris says:

    Yep, forgot about him.

Rui Fonte is away on national team duty so I wasn't too sure about Merida.

  5. scottpuffin says:

Can't wait for the Carling Cup games, in a way more exciting then the 1st team games as it's always exciting to see the up and coming stars in action.

  6. ALi says:

and i don't think bendtner will play also , my verdict is Jap Simpson – Vela up front

  7. cescy says:

    song will start

  8. GoonerChris says:

He played the whole game yesterday so that rules him out for Tuesday IMO.

Bendtner got brought off during the second half, a sign that Wenger wants him to be involved. Vela was rested for the game while Wilshere didn't travel with the squad.

  9. skepta says:

I hope merida and wilshere play. I think song will play instead of randall. Gavin hoyte doesn't look too promising but he only played CB in pre-season. 2-1 Arsenal

  10. Samuel says:

    My predicted team:

    Fabianski
Gavin Djorou Song (Silvestre isn't fit) Gibbs
    Simpson Ramsey Randall Wilshere
    Bendtner Vela

    Bench:
Mannone, Silvestre/Song depending on fitness, Merida, Lansbury/(Nasri maybe for half hour to regain match fitness), RVP/Fonte (depending on how much Wenger trusts the kids).

  11. GoonerChris says:

Fonte won't be involved as I said below.

He is at a national team training camp for Portugal.

  12. Anonymous says:

Oh, my bad. Change Fonte for Murphy then I guess. Or Theo.

  13. Samuel says:

I think it's very interesting that it's the first year academy kids, on mass, will play a part in the Carling Cup anyway. I'm sure the papers will still cry outrage over something, but with the possibility of the likes of Hoyte, Gibbs, Randall, Wilshere, possibly Simpson, Murphy and Lansbury all in contention, it's really the start of the experiment isn't it?

I've always enjoyed the Carling Cup but in the past it's been the second team masquerading as the youngsters, where as this season it really is our academy v. the world.

  14. mike.from.around.da.way says:

i defo agree with you on the strike partnership and i believe it can blossom. I did see pre-season and believed the Bendtner/Vela partnership was Arsenal's best pairing, but Ade n Persie would always get the nod because of their experience.

I'm not sure about the defence though. Would Silvestre be fit? would he be able to last 90 mins? apart from that i expect a 3-1 Arsenal victory

  15. JoeTodd says:

Is it just me getting the really small font size for the side bars? Love to see Merida.. Wonder if he'll get the same response from the fans when Fabregas had his first game?

  16. newman says:

i think this are arsenal future striker

  17. GoonerChris says:

    Nope it isn't!

The sidebars cover the comment section because their is a bug in the template. So, the font had to be minimised.

    Sorry mate!

  18. Samuel says:

I think van Persie is our oldest striker at 25! (And am I correct in assuming Eduardo is the same age?) Our future strikers for the next 3 or 4 years, at least, are the ones we currently have, circumstances permitting. In which time hyped to death by the comments section on young guns murphy and afobe will be of a playing age! I don't think we can realisticly say who will be our starting strikers in the future, although this is a problem I am really glad le boss has. :)

  19. mark callanan says:

That midfield worries me, so little experience. I suppose we have no choice given how thin the squad is.

  20. gazzap says:

I am wondering whether Song might be involved. probably not but he is not exactly playing every game for the first team. this game would have been tailor made for diaby as well. his Arsenal career is passing him by. I am not a big fan of Randall, would much rather see the excellent Lansbury in the middle.

  22. gt says:

Is Silvestre fit enough to play?

  23. JOHTO says:

There is no way arsenal will start with that midfield. last year against sheffield united we had walcott, denilson, diarra and gilberto a midfield with experience not a midfield that hasnt even played 15 games adding there appearances together.

  24. mat says:

I would prefer Vela partner Adebayor and Bendtner partner Van Persi .that means one exprienced with the new Gun and one left foot with the right foot one.Edwardo is another Machin Gun after Chritmas…Arsen knows

  25. arranblonde says:

Good shout for the front 2.

My prediction for midfield is close to yours, but believe that Randall won't start but one of our regulars will – probably Denilson.

In defense I think one of the regular FBs will start. Clichy took a knock at Bolton so I would guess at Sagna starting. Gibbs at LB plus Hoyte at CB with someone of experience …. I'd suggest Toure.

    Right on the GK.

Looking forward to the game. 2-0 win

  26. booo says:

    Ramsey yeah

  27. aqqe says:

These are usually the most exciting matches to watch and definitely the most fun to discuss in advance. Here goes my predicition for the starting 11.

    Fabianski
    Sagna-G.Hoyte-Djourou-Gibbs
    Wilshere-Ramsey-Song-Merida
    Bendtner-Vela

Last year we played with Diarra and, sometimes, Gilberto in midfield to add some steel and experience to the very important middle of our youthful side and I don't see why that should change. Wenger knows that Sheffield will put up a fight, so my guess is Song, seeing as the sort of fight that Sheffield will put up is most likely a physical one. Denilson has earned himself a rest in my opinion.

I don't think the fullbacks will be so inexperienced either because, other than Gibbs, we don't have any young players available that can provide the needed quality, seeing as both Traoré and Botelho are out on loan. But I do think we can count on starts for Ramsey, Wilshere, Bendtner and Vela though. Hopefully Fran Merida too, he's always one of the bright spots in the reserve games and Wenger doesn't throw compliments like “he's absolutely amazing” around too often.

But, like the rest of you, I'm uncertain. All I'm certain of is that this will probably be very fun to watch.

  28. Fabo[4] says:

It's still a right foot left foot combination with Bendtner and Vela. Ade and Vp play together beause they are our best available (I believe Eduardo may change this) strikers.

  29. Fabo[4] says:

I'd be surprised if Sagna Plays.

  30. Mouhsin says:

Where can I watch this game except Arsenal TV Online?

  31. Spike says:

I really cant see Wenger using any 1st teamers if he can help it.

The carling Cup is a run out for players who need games and good experience for the kids.

  32. james says:

    Sagna needs a rest

  33. Samuel says:

We played with Diarra and Gilberto because it's a second string team first, the added steel is just a lucky coincedence.

I'd be very surprised if Sagna started.

Oh, and if you don't think Wenger throws around compliments, check out goodplaya, it'll blow your mindgrapes.

  34. Gooni says:

Think Randall will play but i'm not convinced by him at all. I'd much rather see this line-up:

    Fabianski
    hoyte djourou silvestre gibbs
    simpson ramsey merida wilshere
    bendtner vela

  35. Walcott could play in attack but in midfield I don't think it is necessary as he is already doing so well. The midfield looks very young but when Bischoff comes back he can fit in to the team.

  36. jh says:

hopefull merida starts he is star him and wilshere r the future

  37. “You are likely to see Gavin Hoyte, Abu Ogogu, Aaron Ramsey, Mark Randall, Jack Wilshere, Fran Merida and Carlos Vela. Maybe Bendtner will play. Song, Djourou and Lukasz Fabianski will be the experienced players. But you will have players like Emmanuel Frimpong and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas so it will be a very young side.”
    Wenger said this.
