Promising Arsenal defender Kerrea Gilbert was arrested last month and will be tried for being drunk and disorderly later next January.

The 21-year-old starlet is currently on-loan at League 1 side Leicester City, where he has played a massive part in the Foxes decent start to their league campaign.

Hammersmith-born Kerrea came through the Arsenal ranks playing as a left-back with a series of impressive performances seeing the tough tackling defender promoted into the first team for the inaugraul LG Amsterdam Tournament in 2005.

With Arsenal having injury problems at right back, he started in the Gunners FA Cup win over Cardiff, where he excelled playing on his natural right side. He would go on to play in the next 6 games, creating a goal for Thierry Henry with a excellent cross from the wing against Wigan in the Carling Cup, Henry and Wenger praised the youngster after the match.

Gilbert was then loaned to Cardiff City for a season to gain experience in the summer of 2006, where he made an excellent start - but a fall out with the coaching staff meant he finished the season playing for City’s Reserves. But the starlet returned to Arsenal at the start of the 07-08 season, playing in the pre-season friendly against Barnet.

He was then loaned to Southend for 6 months, where he again argued with the coaching staff and was left out of the team.

It’s a sad end for such a talented player who has now surely followed ex-Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant out of the exit-door. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger saw the light with Tony Adams and Paul Merson, whether he’ll see the light for Kerrea after his troublesome attitude problems remains unlikely.

Many thanks to Young Guns for their Kerrea Gilbert profile, keep up to date with all things Reserve & Youth over there.

Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna admitted on French radio that his France team-mates haven’t been good enough in their recent World Cup Qualifiers, and their number one problem has been the amount of goals conceded on set pieces - something that has troubled Sagna’s domestic season with Arsenal so far.

Les Bleus, managed by Raymond Domenech, have conceded a wild 12 goals in just 5 games - ten of those coming from set pieces. Sagna spoke with RMC about the issues with defending and much more.

“We [France] have conceded too many goals on set-pieces, the same problem we have at Arsenal as well. It’s very difficult, there isn’t much time to work on them when we’re on International duty. What needs to happen is extra communication at the back, everyone must defend.”

The 25-year-old fullback revealed his backing for France boss Raymond Domenech and also admitted he was surprised at the level of criticism aimed at the legendary defender, labelling it ‘very harsh’.

“Everyone always talks about our coach [Domenech]. All the players think it’s too harsh on him. He is a very good coach and is proven at the International stage”
