Eduardo Could Make Bench For Wigan Clash

Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva could be given a place on the substitutes bench for the Gunners’ Saturday afternoon League clash with Wigan this Saturday.

The Brazilian-born Croatian forward has been missing ever since he suffered a horrendous fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle after being tackled by Birmingham’s Martin Taylor in February earlier this year.

According to Reserve & Youth team blog Young Guns, Eduardo played in a behind-closed-doors friendly match against Nottingham Forest last week. The 25-year-old only played the last few minutes, but did get several touches on the ball which obviously began to bring him back into match practice.

“As soon as possible he will play now,” confirmed Wenger when questioned about Dudu. “He is joining in full training matches but he needs games now.”

And with the news that Kolo Toure is back from injury, things seem to get a whole lot better for Arsene Wenger’s young side. William Gallas (calf), Abou Diaby (abdominal strain), Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) and Theo Walcott (shoulder) are all missing, but other than that, a full strength eleven should take to the field at the Emirates.

  1. Mraces says:

    Lets hope so :)

  2. Andy Wilkinson says:

is eduardo really going to make the bench because i know someone who went to the armoury and asked eduardo, he said 3 weeks before he plays

  3. Gooner Chris says:

The article is written from the way Wenger said it mate.

3 weeks? I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t play before then.

  4. Angelos says:

That’s great news for him. I think his place on the bench is catered to build up his confidence more than anything else.
There’s still a lot of work left [of which I believe will be done in reserve matches as opposed to the frenetic pace of actual Premiership matches].

Hope to see him back soon and I’m sure we’ll make our affection for him shown when we finally get to see him play.

  5. Mike.from.around.da.way says:

    Almunia
    Sagna- Djourou- Silvestre- Clichy
    Denilson – Fabregas – Song – Nasri
    Adebayor – van Persie

    4-1 Arsenal
    Van Persie Hat trick
    Adebayor

  6. Angelos says:

I’m with one of the Arsenal players right now. He’s definitely not gonna be on the bench for the Wigan match. He’s only just started training with the first team and even that hasn’t been too intensive. He’s gonna continue for a bit longer and play some reserve football before being considered for Premiership action.

The player sends everyone big love.

  7. Petee says:

    lool angelos u jokin mate?

  8. Gooner Chris says:

    I’ll answer your question Pete.

    Yes. ;)

  9. Jaaack says:

    Braaap !

  10. piken79 says:

    good news for DUDU

  11. Angelos says:

lol. You shouldn’t be such a cynic Chris.
I’ll send you guys any juicy info I get. I swear on my grandmother’s grave [who I love very much], that it is true.

  12. Renna says:

I think Wenger was referring to reserve games where he can play solid minutes. Wenger said he needs games; sitting on the bench and maybe playing 15 mins isn’t the route to match fitness for Eduardo.

  13. Gooner Chris says:

    LOL Angelos.

    Sure. ;)

  14. ClockEndofTimes says:

Your lineup is missing Djourou. What gives? We lost one match when he played out of position at right back. Every other start he’s made in central defense, we have won. So it’s either Silvestre or Toure, not both!

  15. Kevin says:

Gooner chris where the hell is djorou.

  16. Jaaack says:

Im with wenger right now (dont tell anyone) and he said that eduardo may make the bench, but its doubtful that he’ll make an appearance.

  17. hente says:

Next time Dudu will play with the reserves on 16th and if everything goes allright, he’ll be on the bench against Pool.

  18. Fabregas' Dad says:

I don’t think he’ll be on the bench ‘cos I’ve read that he was supposed to play against Portsmouth reserves on 16th December and because he only played a few minutes against Forest. Even if he is on the bench I would suspect Bendtner will be the one to come on if we’re in need of a goal but if we’ve got a comfortable lead in the last half hour or so he may come on if he is on the bench.

Also, I think Djourou’s moved ahead of Silvestre now because he played against Chelsea while Silvestre played against Burnley two days later, so I think Djourou will start, probably with Silvestre because Silvestre has been favoured over Toure recently and Toure may not be fully match fit because of the stop-start season he’s had so far.

  19. Little Dutch says:

Let’s be honest mate, he’s not gonna be on the bench on Saturday in a million years. He’s only just started training, he’ll play at least three reserve games before he gets anywhere near the matchday squad. For physical reasons and for mental reasons as well. I’d still be very, very surprised if he appears in a first team fixture before Plymouth.

  20. Davi says:

yeh i expect djourou to play,
him and song were missing from carling cup because theyv been promoted to first team, for time being at least imo,
dont think wel win with that midfield tho, hope vela plays on the left or something

  21. Misc says:

I really think Djourou will play again, considering silvestre also played in that dire performance against burnley. Toure and Djourou is perhaps our best pairing for the long run, but gallas is a world class defender no doubt.

  22. Kenny says:

I think Denilson won’t stay out there
    Almunia
    Sagna Toure Djourou Clichy

    Wilshere Fabergas Song Nasri

    Adebayor Van persie

  23. Gooner Chris says:

Yep, you’re probably right, Djourou is the best bet to partner Toure. I was just thinking that Silvestre would be the left centre back, that’s all.

Also Kenny, I doubt that Wilshere will start, he’s another who played in midweek and showed his weak physicality. Despite that though, he showed flashes of his quality, I just think he would get nailed in the Premier League.

  24. Billygallas says:

Djourou is starting. He is our best defender and thank god hes at last been given his chance. He will partner Silvestre as Wenger says on Arsenal.com that Toure may now be a right back? I personally believe he should partner Djourou with Bill out but he wont.

Dudu wont play. Maybe the bench for moral belief and if cruising a run out but I highly doubt it.

2-0 hard fought. The Perse and Captain Marvel cesc to score.

  25. ClockEndofTimes says:

Gooner Chris: Wenger’s comments seemed to indicate, at least to me, that he’ll likely opt for Djourou and Silvestre. The Boss said Toure is available, but is better suited to the right side of central defense…

Also, there’s not a chance Wilshere will start. He struggled on Tuesday and Wenger gave him an early hook. I thought Merida should have come off as he didn’t contribute much save the virtuoso solo run, but it looks now like Wilshere is very, very unlikely to get a League start this season, has to hope for time in FA Cup…

  26. sinisa says:

ja mislim da je bolje da igraju ovako:
    Almunia
    Sagna Toure Djourou Clichy

    vela Fabergas remsy Nasri

    Van persie Adebayor

  27. Kenny says:

Not a bad line up either Sinisa Ramsay should get a chance and Vela Could learn more playing wide

  28. sic says:

    Almunia
    Sagna-Toure-Djourou-Clichy
    Nasri-Captain-Song-Vela
    Ade-VP

  29. Adam says:

eboue for right midfield anyone? i know not a fan favourite but adds more balance to denilson on right.

  30. RassHenry says:

Hope he will be alright. Can’t wait to see him playing for us again. As for Wigan clash, i would prefer this line up :

    Almunia
    Sagna Djourou Toure Clichy
    Ramsey
    Nasri Febregas Vela
    Robin Adebayor

    Supersubs :

    Fabianski
    Ebue
    Silvestre
    Denilson
    Wilshere
    Eduardo
    Bendtner

    We will win this 3-1
Scorer : Robin, Vela & Toure.

    Cheers :)

  31. VforGunners says:

The thing about us Arsenal is that when you predict a match score, it’s usually 2-1 or 3-1, or even 4-1, while with Chelsea or MU, ppl often go for 1-0, mostly 2-0 or sometimes even 3-0.

Even with a team like Wigan, we still have to give away 1 goal.

It becomes so natural and understandable.

My only wish for the game is that we win, and we score first.

  32. mohammed says:

my friends van persi is best player in the month go arsenal >

  33. amaan says:

this will be the starting line up

    almunia

    sagna toure djourou clichy

    eboue cesc denilson nasri

    van persie adebayor

    3-0 first goal adebayor

  34. gunred says:

He will not play any part of the weekends match. He will have few minutes here and there over the next few weeks but not against Wigan.

  35. Fabregas' Dad says:

I don’t think Eboue will start but he’s a better right midfielder than Denilson and will probably come on as a sub. I know a lot of fans don’t like him but this can only be good for the team because like it or not, he is an important part of the squad.

  36. mr.love says:

    don’t used fucking silverster
    who kicked out asshole manu.
i don’t want to see fucking silverster.
should use some one from academy than denilson.he is awful.

idiot wenger love french player like his step father.

  37. TheArsenalBoy says:

Why Wenger is so opposed to playing Vela in the midfield is beyond me. It makes no sense. We are depleated to the point where we have to resort to playing central players in wide positions and time and time again it proves to hinder us greatly. It make no sense what so ever to start Denilson on the right, someone who ALWAYS cuts in and is slow instead of sticking Vela on the left, a kid with pace who after all played WHOLE SEASON at left midfield for Osasuna last year in La Liga.

  38. sic says:

^ Agreed don’t like Denilson playing out wide give Vela a run.

  39. gunemall says:

the reason wenger dont put vela is bcos we cant compete physically when players like nasri and song already in d squad. he resorted to denilson as he provides support in terms of presence. if vela plays along with nasri, csec, and song/denilson we r too lightweight in midfield imo
