Match Preview: Arsenal v Liverpool (Premier League)

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal play host to Premiership leaders Liverpool in the match-up that is guaranteed entertainment, at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners have been inconsistent this season and as such are occupying fifth place in the table after having suffered defeats against Fulham, Hull City, Stoke City, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

The Reds however, have made their best start to the campaign and are serious contenders for the English top-flight title that has eluded them since 1990. Rafa Benitez’s side have only lost one league game this season so far that was away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Hence, the Merseysiders will be determined not to suffer from the same fate they last faced in north London.

Last weekend, Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw away to Middlesbrough while Liverpool dropped points at home with a come-from-behind 2-2 draw to Hull City.

Gunners boss Wenger has revealed that there midfielder Samir Nasri will return from an ankle injury, but defender Kolo Toure is a out with a calf strain. Striker Nicklas Bendtner is also struggling with a knee problem.

Theo Walcott (shoulder) and Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) are still sidelined, while Eduardo’s quest for match fitness has taken a turn for the worse with Arsenal’s Crozillian forward out with a hamstring problem.

Liverpool manager Benitez should be back in the dugout after surgery to remove kidney stone.

The Reds, however, are still without striker Fernando Torres (hamstring) and defender Martin Skrtel (knee), but full-back Fabio Aurelio (calf) may return after having missed three games.

Gooner Talk’s Predicted Starting XI

Almunia
Sagna – Djourou – Gallas – Clichy
Denilson – Fabregas – Song – Nasri
Adebayor – van Persie

Match Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Liverpool – A fantastic game full of goals. Arsenal take the lead with minutes to go in the first half. But an inspired comeback by Liverpool gives them the three points and puts the Gunners out of the title race mix.

I dont think we’ll win this one tbh. Nasri wont make much of a difference either. I think i’d rather see eboue on the right instead of denilson because at least aboue will attack the full back. My team would be:

    Almunia
    Sagna Gallas Djourou Clichy
    Eboue Fabregas Denilson Nasri
    Van Persie Adebayor

    Any thoughts ?

  6. I may understand some day why Denilson on the right flank he has no speed to go forward or service a decent cross in the box, I rather see Eboue or Ramsey play on right flank.

Otherwise I will love to see Arsenal throw the towel and place Vela on left and Nasri on the right. consequently this will stretch Liverpool defense to the maxi and provide plenty of room for Ade to have one on one attacks and back door cuts.
