William Gallas deserves a lot of credit

William Gallas; possibly the most underrated, most-criticised and least favourable player in the Arsenal team.
When former captain Thierry Henry departed in 2007 the captain’s spot was up for grabs, and it was Gallas who was elevated to the role for the 2007-08 despite only having played one season for the Gunners.
It was a surprise move by Arsene Wenger, as the likes of Kolo Toure and Gilberto Silva were tipped as future captains. Gallas’ reign as leader of the dominant Arsenal side lasted little over a year, due primarily to arguments with other players.
Disliked by some of his own team-mates, 31-year-old France international Gallas still managed to keep his head down and get on with the job in hand – even though the press were constantly linking him with a move away from Arsenal.
It hasn’t been the greatest ride for Gallas, many times the British media have claimed he has no friends at Arsenal and there is no maturity in the squad.
He has always battled with his own aggression but now he’s started to put in a string of strong, solid performances together which have managed to keep the Gunners unbeaten for 11 games in 2009.
With 5 goals to his name this season, Gallas remains a core part of the future of Arsenal football club.
His contract may run out at the end of the next campaign, but after managing to become a much better player and person since his removal of the armband – you just have to wonder if William Gallas will be at Arsenal for the rest of his fruitful career.

Great work Chris.
Gallas proves that despite having experience, you’re not always a leader. It would have been easy for him to sulk, but he’s kicked on and shown his true qualities. Everybody benefits, William, Arsenal, and the fans.
It’s excellent somebody recognised the character he has shown.
Sincerely, I hope he stays on next season as he is one of the best performers for us this season.

Yes I agree. He may not be the most likable person and his attitude can sometimes baffle people but I have always told people that Gallas is world class defender. It seems like stripping the captaincy has made him perform stronger in recent weeks. I can be very critical of him at times, mostly on his attitude but their is no doubt that he is a very good defender!
THAT YAYA TOURE RUMOUR IS SO OLD AND SOOOO FAKE NEWS OF THE WORLD CHAT SO MUCH CRAP THEIR IS NO CHANCE WE R GOIN TO SIGN YAYA TOURE THIS SUMMER OR THE NEXT JUST THIS WEEK YAYA TOURE SAID ON SKY SPORTS NEWS HE WOULD LIKE TO RETIRE AT BARCELONA AND I DOUBT WENGER OS ALREADY BUYING HIS SUMMER TARGETS IN FEBUARY DUHHH

I swear his contract is up at the end of next season?
But true, Ive just said on my blog that he has been fantastic of late.
Good post.
ps. Any chance of a link mate?
He’s has been great for Arsenal but still I don’t think he would be willing to stay at Arsenal for long
Chris all bollocks i still blame him for the 2 points we dropped @ villa park it was a stupid thing to tackle agbolanhor like that and until we win something this season i’ll neva forgive him and if we dont win then he should leave.
Rogo d gunner, it was a mistake, they happen. Dumb cunt.
Gallas is a great fighter. This year he is number one performer in the tem so far. He hates to be defeated. Attitiude wise worst player in the team is Adebayor. Keep on Gallas.
Gallas is the steel we have needed at the back. You don’t have to like him to realise he is that his recent performances have been his best. Too many fake Arsenal fans want him out for the wrong reasons. This isn’t fantasy football, we need a couple more Gallas’s in the side. He epitomizes the Arsenal spirit I grew up with……
Gallas has re-deemed himself for his unwise actions regarding his team mates. His performances of late have been top class, and he’s hit his best form since joining.
HAHAHA VILLA LOST TO EVERTON 3-1 HAHA NOW HOPEFULLY THEY LOSE TO CHELSEA AND ALL THE OTHER TOP TEAMS THEIR PLAYIN OVER THE NEXT 5 6 WEEKS
I won’t be suprised if Wenger was in for YaYa this early in February, considering how long it took to complete Arshavin’s transfer. Russian or no russian, I think we take too much time to negotiate a deal. With that in mind, I feel there may be a hint of truth in it. I will lose no sleep over it tho. We have a season run-in to look forward to and not some random story in the NOtW
