Reports: Russian giants receive bid for ‘keeper
CSKA Moscow rejected a bid from Arsenal for goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev, according to the Russian press.
Life.RU, the news source that broke the Arshavin transfer story, revealed that Arsene Wenger’s men have put in a £12 million bid for the Russian international.
Indeed, these reports could easily be rebuffed, but if you remember correctly it was Arshavin who stated Wenger’s interest in a Russian player a couple of months ago.
“Wenger was interested in some Russian players.
“He asked my opinion. But I won’t mention names to the press”
The 23-year-old, who has a poor record of knee injuries, seems to be linked with the Gunners’ during every ’silly season’.

WTF are you talking about?? Almunia didn’t win us a few points?? What about the Tottenham away game? What about the times when he kept un in the games against Villa, Newcastle, United away?? Apart from two bad games during the whole season, Almunia has done a brilliant job this year. The most consistent keeper in the league without a doubt!
The russian press says the deal is done and that CSKA took a week of stalling on the bid to see will there be bigger offers, which I seriously doubt. And the quotes on the article belong to Arshavin.

Getting another keeper would be wise because while I think almunia has done fine I don’t think he is a world beater. On top of it, while I like fabianski a lot and I think he has potential to be amazing he just isnt ready yet. Buying a new number two to challenge almunia could bring the best out of both keepers and allow us to loan out fabianski to get crucial minutes. In addition, on the Melo front what I find very interesting is that neither us of the viola have denied interest and Melo nor his agent or spokes person has rubbished talks of a move. All that his been said is that r is happy and settled at fiorentina. No one has said he isn’t for sale and no one has said we would be unwilling to move, something I find very interesting.

Guys, I lived and worked in Russia for 2 years. I still have a very close group of friends there, most of whom are football crazies – like us.
I have been hearing from them for the past several days about our interest in Akinfeev. It’s genuine, and I believe Arsenal will continue to work throughout the summer to try and sign him. I don’t know if the reported bid is accurate from a cash standpoint, but I do know that Arsenal are not messing about in their pursuit of the ‘keeper.
IF what ‘Name’ says is true, I will die with enthusiasm. However, I can not see it happening. We need another CB, we need a DM, we need a striker if Ade goes, add it up and we do not have the money for a 12 million Akinfeev bid… But i would love him.
Maybe… Arsenalinsider quote a source saying a well loved player was leaving. What if it is Almunia? That would indeed sort it all out nicely.

1st of all your playing too much championship manager mate we are not man citeh. Secondly i don’t know who tasci is and why would we buy Chamakh when he isn’t even prolific in France. Almunia needs to go, he’s an ordinary keeper, and wouldnt play for any other top team either in england or europe, that should illustrate the fact that he’s not good enough, id take jaskilinanen (dont know the spelling) over almunia, take howard, friedel, even take swarzher

i’m pretty excited about this news.i really hope it is true. Akinfeev has been russian No 1 since he was 19 and he is solid and proven in many top european games. Definitely have the potential to be top top keeper n be up there wv buffon n cassilas
Igor Akinfeev is 6ft 1 hes shorter than almunia and fabianski. If we are going for him does this mean Almunia is leaving? Fabianski signed a new contract a week ago. I heard barcelona are in for Almunia so maybe this deal might actually happen

Igo Akinfeev is 6ft1 dont get me wrong he looks a class goalkeeper but we are talking about the premiership. Its tough, physical and u need your goalkeeper to be commanding. Akinfeev seems a little to short for me. I prefer almunia cause hes better at coming for crosses and corners. Hes more reassuring than akinfeev

It matters not where you play. You are either a top class keeper or you are not.
Igor is the best young keeper around right now and if we get him then we are sorted between the sticks. He reaches higher than taller goalkeepers. I don’t need to beat his drum. Find out about him and you will start praying this is true and that it comes off.
Almunia is our Goalkeeper. We’re not replacing him ffs.
I’m not slagging off Almunia or Fabianski here. I don’t do that to our squad. But I can say that I’ve talked with folks in Russia whom I know personally, and there is genuine interest from Arsenal in Akinfeev. As I said above, I am not certain that a bid has been made yet, or if one has been made what the exact amounts might be. But don’t discount that discussions might be taking place on this one.
What would be weird, if we get Akinfeev, and he becomes our no 1, we have an older second keeper (Fabianski) who is very highly rated everywhere…. Which would mean a fight for no 1, but ultimately for one of them leaving, and that is a waste of our 12 to 15 million.

No igor is shorter thsn fabianksi. Hes even shorter than mannone. He does remind me of iker casillas in terms of reflexes but with corner and crosses i am not convinced
Alamunia is a fully competent keeper and we should be thanking him for some of his performances. Hence a goalkeeper is not a necessity. In my opinion Akinfeev is beter than Alamunia but i will not lose sleep if we deon’t get him and in Wenger’s eyes signing Akinfeev will ‘kill’ Fabianski who in my opinion is not good enough

Almunia is absolutely world class – an amazing keeper
Fabianski is better in my opinion than Foster, Kuszcak, Hilario and other second string keepers at the big clubs so stop complaining.
Some Arsenal fans need to realise that they Wenger is not going to build their personal dream team.
