wow 12 goals in 3 matches
I wasn’t overly happy with this win, at 2-0 up, we chased a 3rd, conceded, and were then obliged to score again. Why can’t we keep clean sheets? Goals=thrills, defences=championships.
We gave Pompey far far far too many chances than they deserved, Gallas could have been sent off after our highline(something I thought we had sorted out) was exposed.
The midfield was not compact enough, we seriously need to be more compact in midfield, even though Diaby netted twice, he never showed us the real Diaby who can control a match.
As for individually, I thought Gibbs, Arshavin, Van Persie were major let downs today. Arshavin needs to find his form soon, this season, we cannot carry any passengers if we are to realise our targets.
Take the positives out of the game man. We were without our first choice left and right backs and also song. Midfield mainly consisted of youngsters. Then also we did well. Lets not complain and get behind the team.
The positives is we did what we are obliged to do, get 3 points, we should be doing that in any case.
I question why we ‘rest’ uninjured players so early in the season, if not at all. We always gear up for the big matches, win them, then drop points to lesser teams, in the Top 4 Clashes, there are only 18 points at stake. Compare that to the points dropped to Spurs(twice)-Sunderland(twice)-Hull-Aston Villa-Stoke-Fulham(twice), we got 12 out of 27 points.
Utd got 70 out of 72 points in such matches last season, that is where the title is won.
I’m still not content when there are areas to improve on, this is the mindset of a champion.
ok we sack Wenger for you!! So you can buy and build your own team. Sh.. the fu.. up and support someone else as it is clear you are not behind our team!!!
These comments are the result of that 6-1 victory, i think. Your expectations went that high. So even the slightest mistake will be blamed. You may be expecting us to be invincible this season. We have done in past. Right?
yes. why your anytime blaming??? We controlled them the whole game didnt need to much. So we could use other brillant players like Ramsey and Merida.
Had Pompey had better finishing, they’d have scored another goal. Defences win championships, I’m just indicating where there is room for improvement. I haven’t said ‘Player X’ is not an Arsenal standard player, or ‘Player Y’ must be dropped.
The most important aspect is the collective play, and collectively, especially the midfield needs to be far more compact, if it were compact, we can cut out chances availed to the opposition by half.Is that not a good thing?
omg I would love to win all games 1-0. I dont care if we play beautiful which we always do. We have to win trophies. How many goals we score is not important but we score a lot so stop complaining if there is nothing.
ARshavin was very good, actually. Great movement and great threat, always able to pass to. That is what you must understand: not only can he produce stand out performances like against Liverpool, but he can always be asked to work hard and he is always an outlet if no one else is available, plus his passes are great and his dribbles too… He does look a tad tired, but we will see.
Apart from his strikes at Liverpool, many believe he had a stand out match outsid of that, watch the game again, it was not a dominant display that night from him apart from being a super sniper.
If he is tired, why is he being played? I wouldn’t say he was a ‘great threat’, I’d reserve those words to Eduardo instead. I’m still waiting for Arshavin being able to come inside with the ball or to go outside a marker with purpose, something he hasn’t done to the effect we know he can.
I’m not knocking the player, but he is not in the rhythm with the team, for Arsenal to achieve their goals, everyone must be at a high optimal level
I largely agree except for the suggestion that Diaby can control a match, I just don’t think he’s the type of player who’s able to do that. Fabregas, Denilson and Song are better than him at doing that.
The inside track on training at both Arsenal and France, Diaby has the best close control of the ball at Arsenal, even better than Lassana Diarra, the best at the French training as well, he has the capacity to control a match.
Something that many journalists in France agree on is that Diaby has not matured psychologically, he still hides and does not show his true capabilities. He has the physical frame, he has the technical capacity, yet he has not shown it.
There we go again… !!!!
) today.
We WON!!! Enough with everything else.
I dont care about “what would have beens”…. We have been too many times on the wrong side of that statement. We won fair and square (2 square that is…
Thats all i care.
keep it up gunners!!! lets nail CELTIC in the first half and then rest all key players for the MANU Thrashing i want!!
4-1….thats enough for me.
It felt gud 2 watch dis match…bt v luked pretty lazy after scoring 2 goals…it wud hv been a gr8 result if v wud hv kept a clean sheet…nd i think merida was really gud!!!…tht guy has a lot of talent nd potential..newayz cheerz mates!!!
you guys are diamond! nice one for the stream amd highlights! F*** sky, espn and all those other leeches!
get yourself a satellite dish or cable box mate
When will out ST’s score???
Against manu hopefully!
3 points is enough for me. End off really. I thought it was a very good performance, albeit Almunia’s MISTAKE! Hopefully we see few from him this season and he has the form from last season. 4 goals is fantastic and I hope we continue this form, although we need cover as the season progresses.
Almunia needs to have a word with himself over his (lack of) aerial presence. You cannot expect defenders to shepherd strikers into the 2 yard line – that is the keeper’s responsibility. I agree Andrei seemed tired and perhaps not into the match. Would like to have seen him rested today. As to why we rest uninjured players, is that serious? So that they are not tired when we face Celtic in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE or Man U/City in the games that really mean something.
We were never short of quality today anyway. Eboue is a top class right back to have to spell Sagna and Diaby/Eddie/Ramsey looked lively. Imagine what we will see if Mozart ever returns, along with Nasri and Theo? On you Gunners!
There were a few causes for concern, primarily Van Persie and Arshavin in my view. Van Persie’s having a frustrating time, personally I don’t think he’s cut out for that position but it seems as if he’s gonna be leading the line this season with Bendtner and Eduardo as back ups there. Also, all of his free kicks hit the damn wall. As for Arshavin, I’m less concerned about him because he has played in a similar formation at Zenit and I think he’ll improve a lot as the season goes on (he’ll have to).
We looked a bit shaky at the back as well but Sagna and Clichy can solve that. Hopefully Fabregas’ injury isn’t too much of a problem; he’s gonna be vital for the Manchester games. Eduardo was very impressive and should be a cause for concern for Arshavin and Van Persie IMO as he can play in both of their positions but has been more of a threat.
[...] That’s it for today’s Match Report. If you want to see all the goals, you can go to Gooner Talk and check them out. [...]
I hope Cesc hasn’t not pulled his hamstring, hopefully its just a tight hamstring.
Hi gooners is it me or should Aaron Ramsey be in our first team. We need to play him alongside Cesc fabregas with song holding.
Ramsey for me has got goals in him and fabregas
I like all this complaining! At least we’re in a position to pick out what are pretty minor flaws. First of all, we were a bit more shaky (poor English I know) at the back today, mainly down the left. Piquione gave Gibbs a bit of a run around, but Gallas and Vermy had most things covered. I thought RVP played all right today, he produced two brilliant saves from James in the first half (one from a free kick that “Fabregas’ Dad” seems to have forgotten). Arshavin wasn’t dangerous as such today, and he wasn’t at his best, but his ball retention is outstanding.
On Diaby, I don’t believe he’ll boss games, at least not yet, he’s not mature enough. And ‘New Gooner,’ I don’t think a ‘midfield enforcer’ is defined by his close control. At least that’s not what made Flamini great for us.
The French don’t see Diaby as a holding player, he may be big, but his tackling is not clean. Many holding midfielders have a penchant for good close control, L.Diarra has exceptional close control, C.Makelele had exceptional close control, E.Cambiasso has very good close control as does D. De Rossi.
I don’t think Diaby can become a holding player, especially as Arsenal is a club that does not tactically prepare players sufficiently, had he stayed in France or moved to Italy, his metamorphoses into a holding player may have occurred there.
Surprisingly, many Milan fans want to see Flamini as a creative player to replace Pirlo, having seen the Milan match this evening, the creativity from him is nowhere near good enough, although he is a very willing runner for the cause.
with fabregas maybe being out for several weeks due to his hamstring problem, who would replace him? My guess would be that Wenger would place his trust in playing Abou Diaby. Therefore, we would have Abou Diaby being flanked by Song and Denilson.
I dont think he would want to play Ramsey in the clash with United. Maybe the clash with Celtic yes, but not that with united. Hopefully, it is only tightness and not a serious pull or what on cesc’s hamstring. We need him now, since we have the momentum and also at the moment he is playing very well.
Though I know alot of fans would love to see arshavin play in cesc role when cesc is injured, but then again i dont think wenger would do that. Arshavin would still play on the left. Wenger would only play nasri or rosicky in the cesc role, but not arshavin.
Does anyone have news on Cesc?
I am just a massive Aaron ramsey fan. I think hes got what cesc fabregas has got hes got football inteligence. Hes going to be a top top player. I am so happy he chose us over Man Utd
if we conceced 1goal per match i wouldnt mind if we score 2,3,4….8 at each of them!!!!!!
Looked good today & derserved the win.
Lets just look forward to getting the CL spot then the big game against utd. Judging on what i have seen from both teams so far i think we are more than capable of getting a win against them & with a CL spot guaranteed & hopefully a new signing everyone should be on cloud nine for utd.
Having got back from the match and just watched the Gallas/Utaka incident on MOTD; Paul Hart and Utaka should be embarrassed saying that Gallas fouled him it was so clear that Utaka tripped himself up. LOL
Perhaps they should be both charged with bring the game into disrepute!
Cesc hasn’t been confirmed to be out for ‘weeks’ yet, he might just have a tight hamstring which is only a few days to recover.
if cesc is indeed out i would like to see andrei in his holding role and have eddie on the left, rvp in the center, and nik on the right. or even theo on the right. go on gunners!
Arshavin and VanPersie: WAKE UP!!!!!!
i dont think the russian maestro was in the game.
when he is, he drives the ball forward and slips in a couple of tricks, but today he just didnt want the ball
for RVP, he should play in Attacking Midfield, coz he can drive through and give a pass behind the backline like he did with Ramsey
We didnt have many starting line-up players, and this comes to show that ARSENAL have bench strength
Is it true the team came out to ‘we will rock you’
A camp hit from over thirty years ago (+ camper remake)
typical US college sports music (a few chords and repetative simple words)
Can we get rid of it ASAP
I was at the game again (thanks to arsenal for the free scarfs, same ones they give in the welcome pack), would just like to say that rvp played well, his movement was good and was just unlucky to not score. diaby had a blinder. i still have no idea why wenger still has bendtner around. he constantly breaks up the flow of the game, misplacing passes, losing the ball, or passing backwards.i know he is tall and that could help, but he should play in the middle then, rvp and bendtner in the team doesn’t work. as for arshavin, he has had a slow start to the season, but we are only 3 games in, we need to give him time, but at least he looks foward, always tries to attack. we did miss song, we look more shaky in this game than the other two. you could sense in the stadium that even though we got the first two, that wasn’t enough. i’ll be at the emirates on wednesday, hope we play song and rest bendtner. come on you gooners! 3-0
Arsenal 4-0 Celtic
Arsenal 10-0 Dead Devils (Fergie’s Boys)
‘we will rock you’ sure beats ‘the wonder of you’ that’s just sad. at least it gets the crowd going!
would be funny to play ‘hit the road jack’ when a opposing player gets sent off
