Team Predictions: Wigan v Arsenal

Robin van Persie could start against Wigan tomorrow after playing the last 22 minutes of Wednesday’s defeat at Tottenham.

The Dutchman faces a late fitness test on his tight muscles but may start his first Arsenal game since the 4-1 win at Wolves on November 7.

Meanwhile, Denilson and Alex Song are out with groin problems while Thomas Vermaelen has been ruled out for the season.

“We will have to see how he responds,” said Wenger when asked about van Persie. “He had very tight muscles everywhere [after the Tottenham game] because he had not played at all so we have to see whether we go for the gamble or not.

“If he feels physically all right he will start. If it is a little gamble we will not take it because he has been out for such a long time.”

Gooner Talk’s Predicted Starting XI

Almunia
Eboue – Campbell – Silvestre – Clichy
Nasri – Eastmond – Merida

i will prefer we line up like this:

  2. i agree with you damstar. The current defense line up worries me. Too many mistakes between Sensible Sol and Mr Potato head. There is a worry of Sagna doing his usual on the wings and running it up field and forgetting about leaving a massive hole in the centre of defense.

That line up will find it difficult against a relegation threatened team. Are Bendtner and Diaby not available???

I would play Ignasi Miquel or Thomas Cruise (with Sol), because I’m sick of Silvestre, Almunia and Wenger to begin with.

Wigan suckass though, shouldn’t be a hard game tomorrow. Silvestre must be release in the summer, if he is somehow stay in the team for next season I will bang myself to death. Campbell deserve a place in the team and Almunia should be a backup next season. Diaby has been brilliant but the old ineffective Diaby from last season is starting to come up again. For the XI tomorrow I prefer it to be like this :
    Almunia
Sagna- Campbell- Silvestre(we have no choice)- Clichy
    Nasri – Diaby – Merida
    Theo – RVP – Rosicky

I love Diaby, we have not replaced Adebayor. Everyone knew going into the season that Van Persie always gets hurt. After seeing ManU v City I am thinking Bendtner is nice but his first touch is not there, and he is nowhere near as fast as Ade. Thrilled Rosicky is not startng as he is at best a sub, does not score at all and has his problems in the big games. Actually no real shame in losing to the spuds as they are the hottest team in the laegue right now. Wenger ust know better then we he has to get stronger, no depth that he can count on anywhere, and almunia is a ssecond string keeper.Hope they can finish strong, Weds they showed no spsirit and did get run ragged.

Steve stammers a very reliable source. But Kevin nolan come on I dont think arsenal are intrested in him.

Simon Kjaer i look him alot hes a premiership player very physical despite his teenage looks. I like gary cahill alot hes one of these defenders who can improve even more. Hes got height, pace, compsure.

Intresting Wenger said he will confirm the deals after the league finishes. I wonder who the other player is?

I wonder who the other player is. Ppl are saying its thomas sorensen hence stoke bought ASmir begovic.

I dont know i thought sorensen might be going to bayern munich.

Hopefully we have got a centre back

Haven’t posted here in a while, hopefully i’ve missed alot of bashing and blasting of Wenger and Co. Its interesting to read that he’s practically confirmed Chamakh is joining and Alumunia leaving. I often wonder why he says we need reinforcements and always mentions how we have the ‘money’. Because at the end of the day all he normally does is get rid of a key expereinced player and replace him with a cheap unkown and that’s that.

I really hope Slyvestre does not get a new contract otherwise I’ll hurt a small child. Campbell deserves a new contract he has been solid, and as far as I’m concerned Rosicky has done nothing to warrant signing that new contract.

Hope its not true, but insidefutbol saying Athletic Madrid signed Merida on a 5-year deal. They source a Spanish newspaper, so maybe bollocks. I rate him highly and think he could be one of the top attacking midfielders in Europe in a few years. Anyone heard otherwise about him signing?

    @James H:
Of all things you could say, how could you possibly emphasize your point by threatening to “hurt a small child”. Regardless of what you really meant I don’t think child abuse or endangerment is supported here.

Some women are barren and can’t have children and you could “hurt” one.
Very irresponsible and flippant thing to say.

At least Wenger confirm something. Chamakh will be at Arsenal for sure unless it’s a joke. It is also very interesting when Wenger said “I never say Almunia will be our long term No.1 keeper”, suggest he is thinking about a new GK. Has he finally realized that only quality players bring success ? I hope so. I don’t want Arsenal to overspend like that Man Money but I also would love to see talents flock to our club in summer.

LOL @ Daymee.. calm down fella, your obviously not from these parts or you would understand james h’s humour.

As for toms game, Ive given up trying to predict the outcome of this season.. chelsea go & lose today when you dont expect em to & blow the title race wide open again when we most probably thought we were completely out of it mid-wk. now this game is just as important to us as it is to wigan but with our injury problems i dont know whats next with us.

Fran merida is going to be an awesome player i just dnt fink hes made for the premiership.

Even though hes small he doesnt have the fight in him look at wilshere hes 5ft7 he loves a tackle. Same wiith fabregas merida doesnt enjoy the physical confrontation.

Thats why i have big hopes for Henri lansbury he could be sensational for us like aaron ramsey

Would like to see persie, bendtner and eduardo in the starting line up as our front three, with persie and bendtner promoting eduardo’s attacking moves, as I seriously think the guy is low on confidence. Midfield should comprise of nasri, eastmond and diaby. Rather than starting silvestre at the back, it’s better to start with Sagna or bartley. The Rb will then depend on whether sagna switches his place. Apart from this, vela, merida and walcott should be executed as substitute showdown with atleast 25 min of football left.

I doubt Van Persie will start, but I’m fairly confident he’ll come on early in the second half, he looked really good against Spurs for the brie time he was on. Hopefull Carlos Vela will get a game
