Gallas pulls out of training for France

William Gallas left France’s afternoon training session after just 5 minutes today, with his recurring calf injury coming back to haunt him once again.

According to L’Équipe, the 32-year-old felt his calf after several minutes of running before returning to the team hotel with their physio.

Les Bleus boss Raymond Domenech had taken 24 players to their Tignes training camp because of concerns over the fitness of Gallas, who has been unavailable since late March because of his aforementioned calf injury.

Gallas, who scored in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Tunisia, is out of contract next month and could leave on a free transfer should he fail to agree terms to extend his four-year stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Update: Gallas opted out of the session due to a stomach ache.

Even if Gallas does eventually sign a new contract, I seriously think we have to sign more than one centre-half. There is no way we can rely on him, hes had 3/4 setbacks on this same calf… we simply can’t gamble on him.

If it were about money I would agree , however it’s about playing in a squad that wins things.

Gallas’ injury is not a calf. It’s a back that manifests itself in the calf. Arsenal should look elsewhere if he won’t take the offered deal. He might though. I suspect that Gallas will play for the highest bidder. Can’t blame him.

Incidentally, Cesc’s “friends” at Barcelona love him so much that in the three weeks leading up to the first world cup of the prime of his career they’ve distracted him from the task at hand. Barcelona, up and down throughout the club, from its players to its top officers, has systematically and in a calculated way, spent three weeks trying to publicly and cheaply bully Arsenal into a deal. Fabregas is a pawn. It’s a shame. He should be singularly focused on the biggest tournament in the world and the first I’m which he will play a key role for his country. His team should have the same focus. Instead he answers questions about where he will play for money next year. And people wonder why Spain has failed to deliver on the big stage?

id rather milner to YG8 coz he’d add a bit of grit… Wont want to leave as soon as real come knocking… With milner we can use 4-4-2 but YG8 wed have to stick to this crapy 4-5-1 (4-3-3) which doesn’t work…PS… I though we bought the new Zidane in 2008?!

Cesc is a £50MM player this year. At least. His price will only increase over the next two summers, absent injury, as he matures and the team natures around him. Wenger knows this and if Barcelona doesn’t they should.

Arsene is right in this 1-year contract policy for Gallas, or maybe half a season contract and sign another CB in January.

Gallas vs Nasri’s gang not getting along. Worth keeping him? Better to get a top CB to partner Vermaelen. Stil no news about a new keeper yet i guess. Cesc’s head is being consistently turned by his barca scum mates…

Since Gallas has been at Arsenal he gets injured at the critical times. I don’t think there is one season he hasn’t been out for a prolong period. Even if they keep him Arsenal needs to still get a 1st choice CB with Gallas as cover.

I honestly think we should allow Gallas to move on. He’s a good player when he’s fit but his personality is always questionable as he always have problems with his mates. Also this calf injury seems serious and I don’t think he’s worth the gamble especially with his huge contract request at his age. He’s never played a full season since he’s been with us because he always get injured at pivotal times in the season. We should spend some money and get a younger and suitable replacement. Additionally,I don’t know what it is but I’m no longer a fan of Arshavin. He doesn’t seem interested in the club and his attitude and performance this season displayed such. I think because we were so excited to sign him, we’ve ignored the fact that he’s been very nonchalant this season. His attitude is not right. We definitely need a new goalkeeper too and Stevie Wonder can see this!
