Wilshere & Gibbs not included in England Under-21’s squad

Arsenal youngsters Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs have not been selected in Stuart Pearce’s England Under-21 squad for the upcoming friendly with Uzbekistan — a sign that the duo could be promoted to Fabio Capello’s senior side.

Both players were expected to be involved in the upcoming 2014 European Championship qualifiers, with 18-year-old Wilshere impressing throughout Arsenal’s pre-season campaign.

Added to that, Theo Walcott’s inclusion is also probable, meaning three Gunners’ stars could be playing for the senior team very shortly.

We’ll keep you up to date of their involvement if it happens, so stay tuned to the blog for that!

England Under-21 squad to play Uzbekistan at Ashton Gate on August 10 (kick-off 7.30pm):

Frankie Fielding (Blackburn Rovers), Alex McCarthy (Reading), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Phil Jones (Blackburn Rovers), Martin Kelly (Liverpool), Michael Mancienne (Chelsea), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Marc Albrighton (Aston Villa), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Jack Cork (Chelsea), Jordan Henderson (Sunderland), Victor Moses (Wigan Athletic), Fabrice Muamba (Bolton Wanderers), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Andy Carroll (Newcastle United), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).

Thats gr8 news. Gibbs will be Ashley Cole successor in a few years.

    Whilshire is England’s future.

Walcott has to step his game up or he can kiss his England career goodnight.

Lansbury and JET are definitely better than some of the names in the squad list.

Should definitely be seeing JET and Lansbury in that team. Pearce and co. seem to ignore some of Arsenal’s better youngsters. Also Eastmond, Frimpong,

I can understand the exclusion of Frimpong. He has only just come on the scene compared to the current squad but JET and Lansbury should fell slightly gutted.

Lansbury has been called up to the u21s before, but at the moment he’s carrying a slight knock which is why he went home from Austria early and wasn’t involved in the Emirates cup. So I assume that’s why he hasn’t been included in the U21s.

Arsene has the knack of getting his players into squads – thought capello says need to be playing regular? Gibbs is only part timer in squad.

World Cup fall out looking to keep fans happy and nothing else

Rodwell played over 50 games and not picked

Some serious arsene ass licking here

These young players should NOT be promoted straight to the senior side, they should play at their youth level and go up accordingly. That’s what Brazil, Spain, Argentina, France, Ghana, Nigeria etc do. Why rush them?

Messi played in the under 20 world cup then went and played in the senior squad a few months later.
Look at what competitions Cesc played in.

I don’t know why this country shuns these youth competitions, that is their training ground for big stage!

Most of the current Spanish squad played in their respective youth competitions, compare it to our lot, they only appear in the Under 21 competitions!! (which isn’t even recognised world wide!)

Win at the youth level and you have a great chance to win at the senior level.

  18. I can’t believe JET isn’t in the U21 squad – he would kick ass at that level. Frimpong also should be asked if he would be willing to consider playing – the chance to team up with Wilshere and Gibbs at international level must be tempting.

im sorry but there is no way that frimpong should get into the england team before rodwell, noble, parker, henderson (who i think would be a good buy) or even carrick.
JET would destroy the u21 defences as the big man up front. look at nouble at the u19 tournament. they couldnt get the ball off him

Why are people talking about Frimpong being called into the England u21 team he made it clear he wants to play for Ghana just like Daniel Boateng in the Arsenal u18’s

@Me: Yes, watching it on Arsenal TV, but I think it`s only there. Cesc is there wich is a good sign, there is supposed to be a statement from Wenger and Cesc at the end of it, could be interesting.
