‘There is a little disagreement over terms of Nasri’s new contract’, admits Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that discussions with Samir Nasri over a new contract extension have slowed down due to a ‘little’ disagreement over the financial terms offered to the 23-year-old.

Nasri has just one year remaining on his Gunners contract and while talks have stalled recently, the possibility of a move to Old Trafford has been reported in the French media since last week.

Speaking with France legend Bixente Lizarazu for radio station RTL, Wenger said despite problems over the terms of Nasri’s new contract, he is still confident of sorting out a new deal.

“We’ve got a little financial disagreement but I’ll try to make him [Nasri] sign a new contract. I’ll work on that this summer. What is certain is that we won’t be selling Nasri to Manchester United.”

Since joining from Marseille in 2008, Nasri had struggled to make his mark after suffering a spate of unfortunate injuries. However, this season he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top stars being rewarded with a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Traore future hangs in the balance

Armand Traore will find out in the coming days whether he’ll be staying at Arsenal, with the Frenchman eagerly waiting on the outcome of Gael Clichy’s ongoing contract talks.

The 21-year-old, who had a largely unsuccessful loan spell at Italian giants Juventus playing just 10 Serie A games, started his final game in Gary Neville’s testimonial match at Old Trafford last week.

Traore’s fellow countryman Clichy is expected to put pen to paper on a long-term contract extension soon, although manager Arsene Wenger is hesitant over handing the inconsistent left-back a £20,000 pay rise.

Another problem Traore faces is Kieran Gibbs, who has made further inroads this season due to Clichy’s injury troubles. The Englishman is currently Clichy’s reserve which leaves Traore as third choice left-back.

Bayern Munich step up chase for Bendtner

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have made tentative enquiries over the potential transfer of Nicklas Bendtner this week, with the Danish frontman earlier admitting that his future lies away from Arsenal.

The 23-year-old’s position at the club has looked increasingly uncertain due to Robin van Persie’s goalscoring spree and the arrival of Moroccan frontman Marouane Chamakh over the summer.

Bendtner’s agent, who told reporters this week that he is is ’100 per cent open now to a change of clubs’, said yesterday that Copenhagen-born forward would prefer to join a club who will be playing Champions League football next season.

“Our main criteria is playing, playing, playing. But the club [that Bendtner signs for] should also be participating in the Champions League because we believe that Nicklas has the qualities to play in the tournament,” said his father and representative, Thomas Bendtner.

Bayern have made no secret of their admiration for long-term target Bendtner. Franz Beckenbauer stated in November that he ‘has all the qualities’ to play for Die Roten.

A decision on Bendtner’s whereabouts is expected in the coming weeks, with several other European clubs monitoring his situation.
