Tottenham 2-1 Arsenal
|A long range effort from Kyle Walker delivered Tottenham victory in the north London derby and put the focus firmly back on Arsenal’s disappointing start to the season.
Walker struck midway through the second half after Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey had cancelled outz Rafael van der Vaart’s 40th minute opening goal.
Gunners ‘keeper Wojciech Szczesny should have kept out Walker’s effort, but the keeper’s error summed up a miserable campaign for Arsenal who have now lost four of their seven league games and already lie 12 points adrift of the top of the table.
Arsene Wenger’s frustration was evident at the final whistle when he became involved in a confrontation with Clive Allen, the Spurs coach.
Arsenal: Szczesny; Sagna (Jenkinson 68), Mertesacker, Song, Gibbs; Coquelin, Ramsey; Walcott (Benayoun 72), Arteta, Gervinho (Arshavin 78); van Persie.
Shame.
We lacked of creativity, Arteta and Ramsey played so deep and they made some terrible mistakes there. If no Szczesny had saved for us, it would have been another big blow for us.
It’s hurting to say but Spurs were better today. It’s enough to see which goalkeeper had to work more oftenly.
The draw would have been the fair result but they socred twice and that counts. But how the hell could Gervinho miss that chance, I don’t know…
I hope that Sagna’s injury not so serious, because if Jenkinson will play afterwards we’ll be nowhere. The international break is warmly welcomed once again. I sincerely hope that there won’t be new injurys which could hinder our season more.
Get used to defeat as we are going to lose more than we win this season….Every fan/pundit/player can see we can’t defend but surprise surprise AW doesn’t see a problem, there’s where the problem lies….”In Arsene we rust”….At least according to him we are still in the title race…what a loser, delusional!!!
Let’s just say the better team won! We are the best team in london now! Time you accept that! And just to put things straight, walkers goal was not down to Wojciech Szczesny error!! It was a wonder goal from the best young right back in the premier league!!!
COYS!!!
I’ve been saying it for a while but the biggest achievements of the season would be Theo’s, Song’s, Rvp’s and Thomas’ contract extensions. With securing these player’s services I would get over should we not finish in the top4. But if we’ll be unable to keep these players at the club… this summer was only a warm-up for the next.
And the longer we delay the talks (or the players) the bigger the chance is to lose them.
I think people are too quick to judge Arsenal negatively. Spurs are a team in form, and a 2-1 defeat from home isn’t that bad.
Especially when we were cheated. Was clearly handball. and even if the ref cant see it, then he seen the celebration. With 10 men, Spurs would of lost 3/4-1.
And Sagna getting injured was the turning point. Luck was not on our side
Can Ramsey pass the ball to someone in a red strip? He, aside from his goal played a lousy match, and has not really played well this season. Arteta needs some help, but coquelin played well, and Song did too. Nasri was/is a better finisher then Gervinho, and Arshavin does not appear to care. They played with no passion. So I guess I am trying to say they appeared unsettled as a team.
Ehi YID ARMY, you the best team in London? And Chelsea? They come from where? See you next may, we are tragic, you are not better…
Chesney ,Song, Mertsacker all played well, Arteta we can see now how good Fab was , Arteta worked hard but just not good enough, Ramsay is a squad player not a regular , we need to buy players above the glass ceiling of 12 mill., we are a million miles away from where we were 6/7 years ago we have simply gone down every year since then , time for a NEW BROOM.
Wenger might want to stay another 15 years ,but do we want HIM , he can go to another club and get his 7 million quid a year somewhere else , I THINK ITS TIME NOW FOR A CHANGE OF STYLE AND MANAGEMENT.
Andre Santos should have started to help with ball possession, he is such a good player and Arsene keep putting gervinho on the left side and walcott on the right, as i see it walcott and ramsey are squad players and would be struggling to start at any other club, but unfortunately Arsene want a name for himself being making star players. We are gonna loose so many games leading up to January and even if we buy 11 new players including messi, we will still be in the bottom half come may….Well done Stan, THANKS for renaming the club name…Arsene Wegner FC
think that game said more about how far the spuds have come and not so much how far we have fallen. yes there was some questionable defending but apart from ramsey who wasted so much possession, arteta who was dissapointing and walcott whowas yet again invisible, everyone played well. even coquelin had a good game. we have to accept that we are simply not leagues better than tottenham as we were 3 years ago. however 3 defeats and a draw in the last 4 league games against spurs summarizes for me completely how far we have fallen in general in the last couple of seasons. we have to accept the glory days are gone for now
Too many injuries, lack of consistency is costing us. Players need to take more responsibilities. We have never played with the same starting line-up in consecutive games. We’ve a lot of quality in the team its just that the players cannot perform week-in week-out together as a team. Wenger needs to give chamberlain the knot ahead of Walcott and Arshavin as they give away balls way too easily.
This is the second game of the season i saw COQUELIN and he is a very good player, why is this guy not starting week in week out..he is clearly 1 of the best midfielder on the field, all the hype around ramsey and arteta, he was much better. I can bet if he was english he would be talk up to the sky, but i hope Wegner sees he is a real gem….Well done coq
No passion, aimless and confused are the word to describe the players
Key players like rvp, arteta and gervihno wasnt contributing.. Very sad day for arsenal faithful.
Last point, hope wenger leave the club now, i remember he hate lossing, now that the team keep lossing, isnt it painful to stay on?
Please go…
Arteta sucks, he has no creativity whatsoever. He makes Ramsey suck, they have no connection between them. Walcott and gervinho played awful. Still not convinced about gervinho, aoc has made more of an impact than he has with less chances.
No way was it handball!! was clearly on the chest, ok from 1 angle it looked like a possible handball but it wasn’t, i have never seen an arsenal team give the ball away as often as that in a game, they were shocking considering retaining the ball has always been a strength of arsenal, spurs didn’t play all that well either and have a lot of injuries also but what we do have over arsenal is strength in depth, kaboul is probably our 4th choice CB yet he had a good game and is a good defender, arsenal just don’t seem to be up for the fight and therefore will finish outside the top 4 as i don’t think january signings will make much difference, anyway it was a great day for spurs fans and 5 points clear of arsenal with a game in hand just shows we are a different force altogether these days.
I still want AW manage the team while.. AW is really too stubborn. Since the first game of this season, the midfield line is not effective and match results were no good. I would think most of managers would try to change. However, AW is still using the same patch of players (if they are available), same style and same formation. Many said AW spend a lot of time reading match statistic and video, why he still use Ramsey as starter almost every game but not try to use 4-4-2 or use Arteta as AM and Song and Coquelin or Frimpong as holding midfield.
He has spent two years to decide to drop Delison and Almunia. How much time he need to temp drop Ramsey. I do agree he may have potential, but his performance and stat told us he is not worth to be starter. Instead, AOC had very good and solid performance in the last match and U21 match. Everyone is looking forward to see his impact on today match. Why he is even not worth to be a bench player. Not ever Ryo Miyaich has chance to prove his impact as well.
Hope AW can make some change. My no thanks name now is Benayoun, Ramsey and Rosicky.
@fred: GERVINHO is a better footballer than Walcott, with walcott and ramsey it seems we playing with 8 on field players….Leave Ger alone, he just came in the league….Mr FRED, you must be Englishman
@spursman79: Your right i wish you and mongrel face Rednapp all the best, when your heart broken in may. Say thanks to Arsene for allowing Spurs to make the headlines because of his stupidity.
I don’t consider it a big game for us now, 2-1 in your cup final, I think our ladies team would beat you. etc etc.
Go away, suffer and come back as better fans. Did you hear that noise today, it comes from character building, heartache and love for your club.

you cant blame d keeper 4 d
goal ,,gervinho did not track walker…and it
was a spinning shot .it will require a gud
punch.D ref MIKE DEAN is a
tottscum… He has always done it for harry redknapp .guys read his stats at untold arsenal as 4 ME I NEVA EXPECTED US TO WIN OR EVEN DRAW BECOz OF MIKE DEAN
@YID ARMY!: Best team in London. How do you figure that one out? Please enlighten us?
gud game bt we’r nt yet a winnin team.hop we ll do better 4 d rest of d season…gunners 4 l¥fe
I’ve been an arsenal fan for 25 years and have never really looked jealously at the spuds until now.
They have a group of players who can play effectively as a team.
They have a manager who takes responsibility when HIS DECISIONS, HIS PLAYERS, HIS TACTICS and HIS APPROACH doesn’t work.
They also had substitutes to bring on today who made an impact. Sandro had an impact on the game. What did our substitutes bring tothe game. Nothing.
Spurs under Harry Redknap have taken major steps forward and are now struggling to make the final jump for the head of the chasing pack into a genuine top 4 team.
Arsenal on the other hand are going backwards each season. I look at the squad and actually think it is considerably weaker than I can remember.
Either we spend big on 5 new signings to change the face of the team, 1 extra centre back, 1 right back, 2 wide midfielders and another striker who regulary scores important goals and doesnt take 40 chances to or we will be left behind even spurs and that hurts just to think of.
Imagine soon when we have to line up with Jenkinson, Djourou, Sqilachi, Gibbs as a back 4, Cocquelin, Frimpong, Ramsey, Walcott and Ashavin as our midfield. Thats the depth of our squad.
Thanks Arsene, there is a nice door leading out of Arsenal FC. Please use it while you are still remembered for all the good work in the past and not 10-15-20 years without success.
433 or whatever we play doesnt work!
1) ramsey and arteta are not fit to even CLEAn fabregas` boots, no creativity whatsoever, they consider themselves as starters every week and they dont give a fuck
2) only 4 players impressed me today: chesney who at the moment looks like the best gk in the league, mertesacker besides his slow movement tackles really clean and his timing is perfect, song played out of position, kept ade quiet for the most of the game, even played great assist, and coquelin, he deserves a 10 for today`s display. clean, fast, simple passing, he is now my favourite midfielder after song.
3) i know it was a really exhausting game, but walker`s goal … when someone wants to shoot, you block him, easy as that, and none did it. wont blame chesney, the man is a hero
4) did you see the last 3 mins of the game, you know from 91 to 95??? we couldnt fucking get the ball out of our own half. did you see what redknapp did? he brought sandro and corluka. they chased us in our own half and never let us get the ball in their own box. hate me as much as you want, but those were some good subs and tactics, harry totally fucked up wenger today
5) dont you see we are turning into liverpool of last year under hodgson? a win, then 2 defeats, zonal defending, flops all over the place … dont wanna see my favourite team playing like this, but i dont pity myself, i pity the fans from london who give thousends of pounds for their beloved club, and none of their prays are fulfiled …
Just back from the lane… I thought sperz were nothing special, especially for all the big talk.. 2 fluky goals and for a home team nothing like liverpool were against us at home… but they went 2 up top and went for it so for that gamble they got a few more chances but were outplayed most of the game as we had the extra player in midfield…, we had more of the ball than last year there and at times looked almost like the arsenal of old BUT as usual we did not have enough final balls, make enough chances or take the ones we had, we have no centre forward at the club that’s the real problem and things won’t get better till we buy one and Ramsey goal aside was woeful today… A draw was a fair result but it’s just not going our way, of all things shez flapping at another fluke Danny rose and then sagna pushed & out for months, a disgrace ekotto didn’t even get a card… So sperz had a few extra chances, shez was fantastic but ultimately cost us the game with a flappyanski howler, gervhino missed a sitter and our great play came to nothing… Not good!
this is a sad day as a gunner you all look at the back 4 of Arsenal and pull them down but dont defending start for the forward midfield then defenders then last man Szczesny so we need to start looking at rvp whats he giving us nothink he no captain he no Bergkamp he no Thierry Henry lets not forget when they was here he could not get in the side his hart is not with Arsenal his work rate is shocking defenders dont shit there self when he comes runing at them Arteta, Gervinho Mertesacker we need to give them abit more time it be nice to see how Mertesacker dose when he playing at side of Vermaelen if Sagna his out we need to play Gibbs at rb and Santos at Lb i dont wana see Jenkinson we look at today and there a lot of players missing like jack vermaelen the list go,s on there still alot of time to go but why as he gone got players at last min and only one gets in side Arteta the 2nd goal was not great but Szczesny keep the score down for us today
rvp to city ????? Carlos Tevez to Arsenal stight swap
What a shame. At half time Wenger corrected the obvious problem, trhe midfield were playing too deep. A good captain would have not waited until half-time to correct this basic problem. Spurs countered with some tactical substitutions and Arsenal were all out of ideas at that point. A team has to adjust to varying circumstances but this is not happening, this I believe is a coaching issuing. Twice this season Wenger says the players are playing with a brake on, once is a mistake two times is a problem, a coaching problem. Instead of the usual post game excuses Wenger needs to state what he intends doing about this.
every week i was said in this blog, very very frustrating with ramsey…when you see the replay again, two goals from spurs are starting from him, he doesn’t have creativity, poor passing…i do not know what the problem he facing…he just look around…wait for the ball..thanks ramsey…
As a yid, I can honestly say for the first time in the never ever ending (thank god) Wenger era we have the better team, the better squad in all areas. When Sandro finally came on (should have played from the off) Spurs won the midfield battle and should have won the game 4-1 with the chances they created! Good things come to those who wait, so get used to it Gooners! You missed the boat when you had the players to win things and now with the same system with inferior players you have become mid table Arsenal… Can you hear the Arsenal sing???
I have been a Spurs fan all my life, forever living in what has honestly been Arsenals shadow, I was not one of those hyped up Spurs fans going into this game thinking we would annihilate Arsenal 5-1 or some such other stupid figures that were being brandished about, I genuinely beleived Arsenal would up the game for the NLD as they normally do, never right em off as it were, but my god they were shocking yesterday. Tottenham were equally quiet alot of the game but showed the edge required to go on and win the match which is something that is lacking seriously in the Arsenal squad right now..Since when did heads drop at 1-0 down? It was like how we played maybe 5 years ago, no confidence, lacking passion, no desire.
Arsene W has mis judged how football would go in this country, he assumed we would end up playing the continental style of football which has not really materialised and this has shot him in the foot.
Well done Tottenham, for once its nice to say we just have the edge on our nearest rivals, but Im not delusional enough to think we are the best team in London, Chelsea still hold that title, although they are an aging side.
