Rosicky in talks over contract extension

Tomas Rosicky is expected to be offered a one-year contract extension by Arsenal, after his agent flew in for talks with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger yesterday evening.

The Czech Republic skipper has started just five Premier League games this season, which has sparked speculation over his future at Emirates Stadium.

Rosicky’s representative, Pavel Paska, arrived in London last night following reported interest from Fulham, although that was quickly dismissed as ‘press speculation’ by the Czech’s agent.

French tactician Wenger has been mulling over Rosicky’s future in recent weeks and its no surprise that contract talks have begun, with Wenger a massive admirer of the former Borussia Dortmund player’s professionalism and determination to return from long-term injury.

Arsenal’s injuries in midfield (Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin & Mikel Arteta) and several assured cameo appearances from Rosicky look to have earned the 31-year-old an extension expected to be in the region of £50,000-per-week.

I’m sure he will only get a short-term offer. It’s an issue if he accepts it.

Pleased about this. A lot of fans will be upset but personally I think Rosicky’s contribution is overlooked, he’s a fantastic option in midfield for his passing and attitude, and the defensive side of his game has improved a lot over the last few years. Plus, at the moment it’s important we hold onto players like him for some semblance of stability.

Very average player, Wenger will probably offer him good terms to maintain the status quo when what we actually need is change. No goals, no assists, his purpose?

his last 2-3 games were great, i really like him and he is our best playmaker, he gives great passes and this is a good decision from wenger. good in attack, fast, goes back, solid defensively, makes a lot succesful sliding tackles. he should start more games, ramsey should be benched for the next games, i think he is getting very comfortable thinking he will start every week

Big Rosicky fan actually. I do like this decision. If we had more top quality player, he would be a great squad player. As I have said before our main problem is our back up wingers, strikers, one more central defender and a experience back up or competitive goalkeeper to make sure Scezecny does not get too comfortable and we get the best out of him.

Lol.He’s part of the problem. When was the last time we actually won a game with him playing. We either drop points or lose. Liability, like quite a few others. Get rid ASAP.

Rosicky is an excellent player and should be given more starts to build his confidence and fitness. He has a ‘footbal brain’ and often sees the pass or makes the run that his team mates fail to spot. Would be excellent if there were more quality players around him as he proved with the likes of Henry, Cesc and RVP before his serious injury. Made some excellent tackles and passes yesterday and often overlapped but didn’t receive the ball – no wondeer he gets a little frustrated.

I’d renew Rosicky’s contract and get rid of Arshavin. I’d like to see Wenger try and make a late bid for Utd’s Ravel Morrison too. Give the kid a chance.
