Szczesny in contention for north London derby start

Wojciech Szczesny could be set for a surprise return to the Arsenal starting eleven for Saturday’s north London derby against Tottenham at Emirates Stadium.

The Polish shot stopper has been out since mid-September with a troublesome ankle injury but was on the bench for last Saturday’s disappointing 3-3 draw with Fulham

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger recently admitted that 20-year-old Szczesny is Arsenal’s no.1 ‘keeper when fully fit, hinting that he’ll replace Vito Mannone in goal for Saturday’s crucial derby match.

“Wojciech is No 1. When he is fully fit, I will make the decision who to play”, revealed Wenger.

Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to be fit for Saturday’s game, while the return of Tomas Rosicky and Kieran Gibbs to light training is another welcome boost for Wenger’s side.
