Who would make it into your Arsenal/Spurs combined starting XI?

‘Spurs are closing the gap on Arsenal’. ‘The Spurs squad is stronger and more in depth than Arsenal’s’. ‘Their confidence is high and they’ll finish above Arsenal‘.

Is it the same old talk we’ve heard all before? Or do the Arsenal critics have a genuine point?

It’s worth reminding the pessimists that despite Arsenal’s seven year trophy drought, the Gunners are still historically superior than Andre Villas-Boas’ side. Here’s a few reasons why:

  • Tottenham haven’t won the league for almost 53 years.
  • They have had 13 managers in the last 15 years – Arsenal have had one.
  • The last major trophy Spurs won was in 1991.
  • Tottenham are currently playing in the Europa League, Europe’s second-rate competition. Arsenal are in their 15th straight season of Champions League football.

One way of finding out whether Tottenham’s squad is significantly stronger than Arsenal’s is by seeing how many players would get into the current Gunners’ starting XI.

Ahead of Saturday’s north London derby, we’d like to find out who you would put in your Arsenal and Spurs combined line-up.

Gooner Talk’s Arsenal & Spurs combined XI (based on recent form):

Friedel (Spurs), Sagna, Mertesacker, Vertonghen (Spurs), Gibbs, Wilshere, Sandro (Spurs), Cazorla, Bale (Spurs), Walcott, Giroud.
