Richard Keys: "Cazorla's penalty was disrespectful to a young goalkeeper"
|Santi Cazorla has received criticism from TV pundit Richard Keys and former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini after scoring a ‘Panenka’-style penalty against Newcastle on Saturday.
The Spaniard put in a match-winning performance with two goals as Arsenal beat Alan Pardew’s side 4-1 but it was Cazorla’s penalty which has surprisingly caused upset among a section of the media.
While Arsenal fans across the world enjoyed Cazorla’s cheeky chip past Magpies ‘keeper Jak Alnwick, former Sky Sports pundit Richard Keys slammed the former Malaga man for ‘disrespecting’ the 21-year-old.
Former Chelsea and Tottenham shot stopper Carlo Cudicini launched a similar attack on Cazorla via Twitter, suggesting that he wouldn’t have tried the skill if his team weren’t in a comfortable position.
Clever Cazorla's pen – but I think it showed a total lack of respect to a young keeper. He didn't do it last week.

Well done Cazorla, 88th minute 3-1…very brave!! Would love to see it in a penalty that count. #notimpressed

Perhaps Santi should have smashed it, Richard? Right?

Is this the same disrespect you and Andy Gray show to women
why he didn’t say this when perlo scored like this
Who cares how a penalty goes in? It wasn’t illegal or disrespectful. Being a misogynist is filthy, so who cares what that blowhard says?
fuck off keys you knob opening your gob again
I think this is the first time I’ve seen one of our players blatantly disrespect a young kid from another team. Very disappointed in SC, a grave error of judgement. Had it been an experienced keeper it might be different. But the penalty taker is there to BEAT the keeper, not HUMILIATE him. Shame on Cazorla.
What has penalty and respect got in common?
What a load of nonsense by keys.cazorla disrespected no one by doing what he done, its his job or any pen takers job to out wit a keeper and their age doesn’t matter at all.Santi is a classy, jolly, wee superstar and disrespects no one.didnt Mr keys lose his job for what some would say was something disrespectful?.why doesn’t Mr keys or anyone in the media have a go at the disrespect the Chelsea players showed the game and their opponents yesterday with constant diving, what does the former Chelsea keeper think of that?.thanks.
I notice Keys and Gray who are currently working for Bein sport, owned by the Qataris always criticise the fact there so many foreign managers in the premier league. Moyes was working with them and they criticised the new United manager appointment. Keys and Gray are no friends of Arsenal and are always sarcastic when referring to Arsenal. Corzola took the penalty and saw the goalie move early, and hit down the middle. If Corzorla had missed this would have satisfactory for him, there is always a risk. Like when Henry and pires did the pass for the penalty, they messed up. Key is completely out of order, to mention disrespecting an opponent, this not the case. The sarcasm they undertake, when referring to there arab colleagues, will I am sure result in there contracts being discontinued.
Haha, those tears taste delicious.
It was obvious from the get go this was a match we had been supposed to drop points in.
From the excellent Welbeck goal wrongly disallowed, clear penalty on Giroud (which was conveniently not included on MOTD) appalling refereeing by Lee Mason (the 1 foul by Bellerin = worse than Tiote stud rake on Alexis’ chest and number of other cynical fouls was particularly spectacular officiating) and free kick instead of penalty, it was a terrific performance by Mason, and he must be livid that Newcastle were below par so couldn’t take advantage out of his form.
Giving a penalty in the last minute with a apologetic smile when the game was already won doesn’t fool anyone, Mr Mason. Better luck next time, when i’m sure you’ll do your utmost to keep up your excellent track record in Arsenal matches.
Wayne Rooney vs Schzzny: Young Scezzny was playing his first match against the mighty Man U during the Ferguson era and hey presto penalty to Man U. Up steps Mr. Rooney who places the ball on the spot and proceeds to do a zig zag tribal dance before smashing the ball against the crossbar and out of play
I don’t remember anybody calling that disrespectful
Complete bullocks. When Hazard scored the penalty against arsenal it wasn’t cheeky was it. Bloody twats. Your playing days are over so you are waking out a new life at criticizing players who are active. Well shame on you twats.
ridiculous criticism! so before someone takes a penalty he must first consider the age of the goalkeeper and whether he should show respect to him or not. these so-called pundits will carry their criticism to ridiculous lengths. well played, santi!
really enjoyed that penalty should do it more often gives the goalkeepers more to think about….also shows how confident santi is right now thanks santi…
Why not these pundits look on the bright side and congratulate santi 4 confidence he used in taking the penalty and also for entertaining every1
If he had lost they will say, can imaging Cazorla against that young keeper? Pls go seatdown
if the goalkeeper could have save the news would have been ‘ a young goalkeeper saves a penalty from an experienced player’
I remember when Nani dribbled 3 ASSenal players with the head…..the ASSfans critized and called it ‘a disrespect’…….just saying
Well i don’t like Keys but I I were the manager I would bollock him say take it properly, thats not how to do it
Criticism for the sake of it. Really a non issue being flared up by Mr. Keys. Don’t understand what is respectful in the penalty. Many players do it. I have heard this strange view for the first time…..
What’s worse, Santi’s penalty or Keys respect of women. Pious twat, much the same as Collymore, standing on his soap box preaching, no one respects these vile human beings
forgive the pundits for they do not know what they are saying
If cazola had missed the penalty will u guys call it disrespectful? can u mind ur business?
Cudicini shouldn’t be commenting, did u know the length and height of a goalpost? after warming Chelsea’s bench for years.
What does taking a penalty have to do with the keepers age….Is someone who is 21 yrs old still young. stupid pundits and stupid cudicini
They r just angry Arsenal is wining again….same group of pundits would praise Messi or Ronaldo if they did the same thing.who cares how a penalty is scored,as long as it hits the back of the net.
Does it matter how a player kicks it,when the ultimate is to score good goals? Santi please keep scoring, we gunners are not compainung.
Any excuse to have a pop at arsenal hey?i bet if shriek did it he’d be saying how clever it was & as for cud icing ex chav say no more-prick!the daily fail actually congratulated craz oral for his earlier goal & staying on his feet unlike the chavs against hull, don’t hear cud icing commenting on that though or keys hey?
I notice he didn’t mention that Santi chose to stand up rather than go down before “chipping” in his first goal. Maybe he should have “smashed it”. I think that Alnwick showed a massive disrespect to Cazorla by diving out of the way!
If santi missed that pen it would be a great safe Make up ur mind Mr KEYS
I’m surprised pundids are talking like men in a beer party. Carzo’s penalty was a class of innovation which can best be done when u r happy at dat time like Kazo. BRAVO!! explore more skills next time.
So you can’t chip a PK? Silly old farts. Well done Santi!
And if he’d been even younger I suppose Santi was supposed to tell him which corner he was going put it in………..
showing respect to keepers is notting supposing he lose the penalty what will the say??
Ridiculous! Showed more than enough respect not to go down for a pen when he scored in open play!! Pretentious garbage.
This is total rubbish and unprofessional. When did taking penalties require the goalie’s age before u can try the panenka.Or why did u not make this statement when belhanda used it on our young goalie in a UCL match two years back . Mthchewwww
Welcome to Arsenal – the most hated on team in England.
All these pundits hate Arsenal and Arsenal players .I cannot see any other reason for their silly comments.
Keys is like the annoying kid on BeIn Sports. He’s forever claiming “That’s a foul”, “that’s offside’, blah blah, and Andy Gray and the other guests just laugh at the witless twat, because they obviously think he’s a dickhead.
Don’t worry cazorla, the keeper is that young he still believes in you Santi, lol.
Instead of having a ridiculous moan about how cazorla acted in regaurds to his penalty taking, wouldn’t it have been more factual and appropriate of keys and Carlo to praise Santi for not diving in build up to his first goal,I believe 2 geordies made contact with him in the box and he chose to stay on his feet and score.refreshing behaviour santi in light of what we seen across London at Chelsea.
if he was a young keeper then they should not have been given chance to be in the goal, this is competition not charity therefore a goal is a goal no matter how it is taken
The sheer impudence of Keys takes one’s breath away. He and his creepy pal Thicko Gray are now well out of mainstream commenting, thank goodness and long may this continue.
