Arsenal are considering loaning out Per Mertesacker,  as the German’s contract situation continues to be the subject of debate in and around The Emirates Stadium, as per an exclusive report by The Times

The 32-year-old, whose contract is due to expire this month, hasn’t featured all season for Arsenal, having sustained a knee injury during pre-season. A return this month was on this cards, however, another injury (calf) means his return would be further delayed.

The Gunners are now reportedly looking for options to send their club captain elsewhere to prove himself and be ready to compete for a place with Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny, the favoured partnership, next season.

Should Mertesacker decide in favour of a move, the possibility of Arsenal entertaining any English club seems very low. Germany, therefore, may well be where the “BFG” ends up before his contract saga takes centrestage, as both Hannover and Werder Bremen have shown some interest in the player.
