Watford 2-1 Arsenal: Player Ratings

Arsenal lost another away game in the Premier League as they failed to capitalise on Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United dropping points. The Gunners looked like they were about to win again, when Troy Deeney’s penalty and Tom Cleverley’s close range effort took them apart.

The manner of conceding the penalty, the team’s lack of character and Arsene Wenger’s team selection left millions of Gunners fans gutted.

Petr Cech: 6.5

Had nothing to do for the penalty. Was nowhere near position for the second goal and had a very bad night through no fault of his own.

Laurent Koscielny: 6.5

Koscielny’s departure was fatal. When we thought, Arsenal were going to attack and put up a late effort, they were pegged back and the Gunners had no chance of winning.

Per Mertesacker: 6

Arsenal’s captain had a Premier League start after a long time and he managed to score. Watford were relentless and Mertesacker’s night went from glorious to gruesome over the course of 90 minutes.

Nacho Monreal: 6.5

He was consistent again. Watford barely managed to create down our left and Monreal does not deserve to be on the losing side.

Hector Bellerin: 5.5

Offered a lot going forward but needs to be better, defensively. The penalty was a harsh call and I do not blame him for it. Bellerin’s flank was constantly under threat and he looks uncomfortable every time his pace is challenged.

Mohamed Elneny: 5

Came in for Ramsey leading to a lack of creativity and more defensive solidity- you would wish! Wilshere should have started in his place. After good performances for the team and a long rest in the international break, the Englishman was the more obvious choice.

Granit Xhaka: 6.5

A good delivery for the goal and was playing quite well. He is another player who came away with some credit.

Sead Kolasinac: 6

Not his best day either, was not very sharp up front but did not do much wrong. Made some runs

Alex Iwobi: 5

Frustrated a lot in attack. Better odds on the grand national than Iwobi scoring from close range. He was not the wonderkid that we call him tonight. Poor final ball and many stray runs made him look very shabby today.

Danny Welbeck: 7

The substitution that changed everything. He was excellent- made runs that kept full backs busy mrking him and tracked back. He was even spotted making standing tackles in his own penalty area. Excellent work rate and went out of the game leading. Had one excellent chance snapped away from him by the outstanding Holebas.

Alexandre Lacazette: 6

Tried his best and looked very dangerous. Arsenal are yet to see him with Alexis and Ozil.

Mesut Ozil: 4

Utter rubbish. Ozil coming on for Welbeck made no sense. Missed an absolute sitter. If he is going to miss chances that Eddie Nketiah can convert with ease and then play an integral part in our breakdown, he can go to Tottenham for all I care.

Olivier Giroud: N/A

Rob Holding:  N/A
