Arsenal must meet €35m release clause to sign Boca star

Arsenal – according to a report published by ESPN – will have to meet the €35m release clause in Cristian Pavon’s contract at Boca Juniors, if the north Londoners are to land the Argentine hotshot as they prepare for life without Alexis Sanchez.

Sanchez is destined to depart the Emirates during the January transfer window with Manchester City beckoning, and in a bid to offer his squad a contingency plan for the future, it’s said that Arsene Wenger has shortlisted Pavon, 21, as a potential like-for-like replacement for the diminutive Chilean.

But, quizzed to whether Arsenal have actually lodged an offer for the starlet, Boca president Daniel Angelici told local radio station Continental 590: “The club has not received anything for Pavon. Unless a club comes along and pays the €35m release clause, I don’t think he will leave this year.”

Pavon recently penned a new deal at ‘Xeneizes’ which would see him remain at La Bombonera until 2022, and though the searing attacker is indeed catching Arsenal’s eye amongst others, Angelici seemingly isn’t phased about the prospect of losing one of the club’s brightest assets.

“I don’t think so, not this year,” he proceeded. “When we signed the new contract [last summer] I told him that I would like him to remain at least until the Copa Libertadores and then I told him personally that we would not limit his career.”

Newly capped by the senior Argentina national fold in November 2017, Pavon is driven, direct, and in just 12 appearances this season for the Argentine Primera Division giants has managed to net 3 goals whilst offering his teammates 6 assists – at such a tender age, it’s likely that his tally and ratio will grow and flourish fairly swiftly, so the Gunners are wise in their alleged pursuit of the adaptable winger.

Pavon will be determined to compete at the World Cup in Russia this summer, so perhaps a high-profile switch to the Premier League would bolster his bid for a seat on the plane in Jorge Sampaoli’s final national contingent.
