New twist in Alexis Sanchez transfer saga

It had been thought near enough a sure thing that 29-year-old Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez would be seen moving to Man City this year, with the news that personal terms had been agreed with the player. However it has been revealed that Manchester United have now made contact to make an offer closer to the £35m Arsenal are reportedly holding out for.

Reports suggest that United are now attempting to hijack a move for the Arsenal star who made a second half cameo appearance in the Gunners’ Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

United’s offer of £25m for the no.7, who becomes free from his current contract in the summer, sparks a real strategic problem for the Citizens since it potentially scuppers what was widely thought to have been a deal on the verge of completion.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been earmarked as a potential makeweight in the deal which may persuade Arsene Wenger to conduct business with his managerial arch rival Jose Mourinho.
