Arsenal target rebuffs latest contract renewal deal at FC Schalke 04

Subject to a report published by German outlet Bild (via Metro), it’s surfaced that Max Meyer, a supposed transfer target of Arsenal, has rebuffed the latest contract renewal offer which was tabled by his current employers FC Schalke 04, meaning that the attacking midfielder could be acquired by the Gunners for free come the summer transfer window.

A graduate of Schalke’s renowned youth academy set-up, Meyer’s time at the club appears to be coming to an end and it’s believed that the north-Londoners, after being touted as a major suitor in the race for his signature, would make their desire for his efficient services known.

However, Arsenal will allegedly have to fend off the likes of FC Barcelona and bitter local rivals Tottenham Hotspur if they’re to secure the German international, counterparts which pose as staunch competition indeed, although the Premier League outfit have dealt with Die Königsblauen before in circumstances similar to what Meyer may find himself facing come the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Sead Kolasinac, a robust, adaptable left-back, made the jump from the Veltins Arena to the Emirates at the beginning of the season on a free transfer, so with recent experience on their side, Arsenal would presumably know how to tackle the pressing situation effectively, if the playmaker fails to pen a renewal at the Bundesliga club, of course.

Passing up the opportunity to lure the creative midfielder in the summer without even the need to part with pennies would certainly be irrational of Arsene Wenger as Meyer harbours a unique, natural ability with the ball at his feet, a balance and cohesiveness in his own personal game which holds his name aloft as one of the brightest future stars of the sport.
