A section of the Arsenal supporters have hailed the performance of Gabriel Martinelli during the club’s 4-0 Europa League triumph over Standard Liege on Thursday night.

Martinelli made a huge impression during his maiden start for the club in the League Cup last month where he bagged a brace in the 5-0 drubbing of Nottingham Forest.

As such, it was not surprising that he was handed with the chance of leading the line against Liege and he proved his worth with a man of the match performance.

The young Brazilian scored the opening goal in the 13th minute with a sublime header from a Kieran Tierney cross and just moments later, he bagged his brace after showing some neat footwork and composure in the box.

The teenager could not bag his maiden professional hat-trick but he continued the good work during the second half, where he provided a fantastic dink cross for Dani Ceballos to score his maiden goal for the Gunners.

Following the game, a section of the Gunners faithful praised the forward’s performance and some believe the teenager deserves a Premier League start.

Twitter Reactions:

Earlier last month, Bukayo Saka was the man of the moment in the Europa League with a goal and a couple of assists, and the teenager was instantly rewarded with a starting spot in the Premier League.

While Martinelli won’t get the chance to start upfront with the presence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he has shown from the second half display that he can comfortably adapt to the left wing position, where he can take on defenders with his pace and directness.
