Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on the young trio of Matteo Guendouzi, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson and believes they have fantastic potential.

Gunners boss Unai Emery begun the season with the trio in the starting XI against Newcastle United but only Guendouzi has managed to cement a regular spot.

The Frenchman has taken his game to the next level this term with his improved positioning and determination to make things happen in the final third and he has already been key to the comebacks against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

Amidst this, the 20-year-old has already been rewarded with a maiden call-up to the France national side and most recently, he has bagged the club’s Player of the month award for September.

In a recent interview covered by Arsenal’s official website, Wenger was asked about the progress of Guendouzi and he said that the midfielder has a good potential.

He added to praise the likes of Willock and Nelson, who have been afforded with more minutes across all competitions on the basis of their recent improvements.

“He looks to be a good potential. I think there are many other players who have fantastic potential, who played already with me, like Joe Willock and you have Reiss Nelson. You have many players who come out and have a big potential and Guendouzi is one of them,” he said.

Willock has been in-and-out of the starting lineup in the Premier League but he has made an impact in the Cup competitions, where he has scored a goal in each of the past matches.

Nelson, on the other hand, has barely featured in the league after the opening two games and that has resulted from the emergence of Bukayo Saka, who has recently commanded a regular role from the left wing.

The England Under-21 international has, however, impressed in the Cup competitions similarly to Willock and he has contributed two assists and one goal this term.
