Spanish giants Barcelona are understood to hold a keen interest in signing Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid the uncertainty surrounding his contract situation at the north London side.

The Gabon international has been a revelation for the Gunners since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019 and he recently bagged his 50th club goal from just 78 appearances.

Despite the success, the 30-year-old has shown a reluctance to pen a new contract, given he is said to want assurances of Champions League football with the club next season before assessing his future.

According to Juanfe Sanz Perez from El Chiringuito, the Blaugrana are said to be keeping a close watch on the proceedings and they have identified Aubameyang as a probable replacement for Luis Suarez.

Furthermore, it is stated that they could come up with a transfer approach for the striker in January itself, given Suarez has been struggling with fitness concerns during the first half of the season.

Aubameyang has been a consistent performer upfront for the Gunners and as a result, he has recently been handed with the captain’s armband after Granit Xhaka was stripped from the leadership duties.

He currently has less than 20 months remaining on his existing deal with the club and it remains to be seen whether the board can convince him to renew his contract.

Otherwise, the club will certainly consider his sale by next summer, given the striker would be entering the final year of his contract whereby his valuation would drastically reduce.
