Raul Sanllehi opens transfer talks to sign 27-year-old defender for Arsenal: report

Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi is understood to be in advanced negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over a possible January deal for defender Layvin Kurzawa.

The Gunners are currently short of options in the left-back position, in particular, with Kieran Tierney out until March after a dislocated shoulder while there have been repeated injury concerns for Sead Kolasinac.

Kolasinac is presently struggling with a thigh strain which could keep him out of action for the league clash against Sheffield United this weekend and this may see Bukayo Saka act as the emergency left-back for not the first time this season.

Amidst this, it appears that the club are making the effort to land a new left-sided defender and The Athletic claims that Sanllehi is in advanced discussions with Les Parisiens for Kurzawa.

The Frenchman has already entered the final six months of his contract and David Ornstein suggests that the Gunners are looking to land his signature this month without paying a fee.

Les Parisiens are unlikely to sanction Kurzawa’s sale without any fee involved this month but the move could still be realistic with a separate report from The Sun claiming the Gunners could land him for around £6m.

Kurzawa made a huge name for himself during his time at Monaco but he has not been able to replicate the same level of performances at Parc des Princes due to niggles and competition for places.

As such, the 27-year-old may not necessarily prove a permanent option for the left-back spot but he can provide the much-needed experience and cover in the role, particularly with the current injury situation.
