Cazorla double keeps Arsenal in race for fourth place

Santi Cazorla scored in both halves as Arsenal beat relegation-threatened Aston Villa 2-1 at Emirates Stadium.

The Spaniard gave the Gunners the lead after five minutes, but his opener was cancelled out when Andreas Weimann levelled the score for Villa just 20 minutes from time.

However, Cazorla struck again late on in the match to restore the hosts’ lead and give them all three points.

Santi Cazorla – Arsenal’s Spanish midfield maestro scored a crucial brace as Arsene Wenger’s men continue to fight for third place. Bet Victor had superb odds on Cazorla netting the winner at Emirates Stadium.

Where next?

White Hart Lane plays host to one of the most important North London derbies in recent years next weekend. It’s expected that the current odds on football will place Andre Villas Boas’ side as favourites for the match. Arsenal will be desperate to overtake their bitter rivals as they search for Champions League qualification.

Arsenal v QPR – Match Summary

Mikel Arteta’s late goal gave Arsenal all three points against 10-man QPR at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Spaniard headed in the winner six minutes from time, shortly before R’s midfielder Stephane M’Bia was sent off for kicking out at Thomas Vermaelen.

Mark Hughes said after the game that he felt his side were in ‘total control’ throughout. But with 70 per cent possession and 21 shots (11 on target), it appears that Hughes was watching a completely different match.

Spirited Gunners leave it late to beat Newcastle – Arsenal 2-1 Newcastle

An injury-time Thomas Vermaelen goal created Premier League history for Arsenal as the Gunners came back from a goal down to defeat Newcastle 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Highly-rated French winger Hatem Ben Arfa put Newcastle ahead in the first half but Arsenal’s top goalscorer Robin van Persie replied immediately for the Gunners before Thomas Vermaelen sealed the win with an injury time strike.

It is the first time in the league’s 20-year history that a club has come from behind to win four successive games, while more importantly the latest victory puts Arsene Wenger’s men to within a point of third-placed north London rivals Tottenham.

Arsenal bow out in style to Italian champions – Arsenal 3-0 AC Milan

Arsenal fell agonisingly short of an historic comeback after they beat AC Milan 3-0 at the Emirates, but went out of the Champions League 4-3 on aggregate.

Following their thumping 4-0 defeat at the San Siro in the first leg, the Gunners would have had to defy the record books to progress into the last eight of the competition.

No side has ever overturned a four goal deficit in Champions League history, but Laurent Koscielny gave Arsenal hope when he gave them a seventh-minute lead.
