Man United's Silvestre To Arsenal? Surely Not…
Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players throughout the summer but one of the most unlikely names to have been mentioned is Manchester United’s defender Mikaël Silvestre.
The 31-year-old has played over 249 games for the Premier League and Champions League winners and the media have today linked him with a move to the club.
Silvestre was reportedly undergoing a medical at bitter neighbours Man City when his agent phoned him to say that Arsenal had an interest in him.
According to unreliable British newspaper The Sun, Mikaël immediately abandoned the medical and hurtled down the M1 to meet Gunners boss Wenger and discuss terms.
Would Arsene Wenger really go for an injury-prone defender who’s pay packet is expected to be as high as £50k? Or maybe somebody saw Gunners’ target Gokhan Inler go into Arsenal’s London Colney training ground and mistook him for lookalike Silvestre?!

Sorry you Arse fans, but it's a reflection on the financial state of the club. They're broke and now you know it. Where's the £70million transfer kitty the Board were boasting about this time last year? It's becoming more and more obvious that Arsenal are just not in the race to compete with the 'big boys' – Chelsea, Manu, 'Pool and Spurs.

Why all the negativity? Injury prone -250 games over since the 99 season is almost 30 games a season.
He has heaps of International and Champions League experience not to mention EPL experience. I for one would think it would be a great signing especially as he can play 2 positions and IMO he'll be out to prove himself after sitting out most of last season on the bench.
What makes you think he'll claim a starting place straight away if he joins?
We have Toure and Gallas as the centre back pairing and I doubt very much that he'll change that.
Strength in depth is what we need, centre back is the one of the places. i think its definitley worth a gamble. Everyone knows we need to add experience to the squad and look at all the medals he has. could be a handy player for away games in the premier league if gallas+toure are injured or for an away european game where we want to go 5 at the back. he probably is stronger in the air than toure or gallas
After Fergie's much publicized block move of Heinze to Liverpool, you'd be deluded if you really think he'll sell SIlvestre to you bitter lot. We're not a selling club, we don't need the money, Silvestre will play back-up in Arsenal, just like he's a back-up to Ferdinand/Vidic and Evra at Man Utd. And £750,000? We sold Richardson for £5m and an almost worthless player like Eagles for £1m, you really think we'd sell Silvestre for that low. God Forbid seeing him in an Arsenal shirt, just like the thought of Henry in a Man Utd shirt is even more repulsive. I don't see him leaving and if he does, definitely not to you lot, I'd rather see him with the other bitter rivals down the road(City).

Wenger says he doesn't look at passports when signing a player, on this evidence he clearly does because he's had all summer to sign plenty of centre backs of different nationalities like for example ZAPATA of colombia, RICHARDS of England BUT he waited and kept gunners fans hanging until 10 days left of the window to sign another french boy Silvestre, not to mention he's Man Utd REJECT. When did Richards become a top player, I remember Eduardo skinning him the last time we played them up there. Also saw him get the runaround by Torres too. But when it happens to Senderos he's crap and should be sold!
He may have POTENTIAL but we have stacks of that in Djourou ,Senderos and Nordviedt! The three of them combined cost less than half of what Richards would cost now-he signed a new contract last season.
I for one wouldn't mind if we got Silvestre because of his vast amount of experience and ability to play effectively in 2 positions. Wenger has said before that CD's like keepers don't peak until their late twenties early thirties.
Another reason I'd be happy if we signed him is the fact that he is/was an UTD player.
He has developed a winners mentality at utd and could impart that attitude to younger players.
Get over the fact of who he used to play for and that he's French and instead look at what we need and he IMO he fits the bill. Experience, Winner and Quality
This sure would be weird. I don't think we need a centre back, atleast not this transfer window, because central midfield has to be priority. We can't keep playing Eboue there if we want to win something. However, he is a quite versatile defender with a good Gilberto-I-don't-moan-when-I'm-benched-attitude with bags of experience from the Premier League. Hmm, I'm torn on this one, his age is against him. I don't think he's a man for the starting eleven, and if we buy a centre back that's what we need.
If we get him and then a defensive midfielder then I'm definitely happy, but if this is the “one” I don't know what to do.

I don't think this is the transfer he was talking about, he just heard Silverstre was going for a free so he tried to kifack it.. Silvestre doesn't fit the characteristics that Wenger said he was getting in an interview with Arsenal TV Online a few days ago.

Now look i hope that Silvestre is not the extra body that Wenger is talking about, infact I doubt that he is. But IF we do get him he would a good addittion to our squad, but we still need an experienced Centre-Mid. Hopefully this Inler is as good as everyone make out.

Basically it's off the Man Utd site and it shows The Sun's article and then gives it's own response. Now we all know The Sun is a pile of crap anyway, but the Man U site points out that, contrary to The Sun's report, Silvestre has not been granted a free transfer, it's still a year till it runs out, undermining the credability of the entire story.

Is it such a bad signing, we did sign gallas from the chesea scum. Guy has prem experience and is french so fits into our french speaking defence.
The more I think about it, the better does this signing sound. We need experience in all competitions, we need someone who can come into the team who hasnt just played youth football, he will be cheap and the only reason the guy does not play for United is because Evra is a great player. He wont provide much of an attacking threat but will provide us with a safe option. Troare aint the most reliable defender as he is attack minded
