Transfer Deadline Day: Who Will Join? Who Will Leave?
So here we are once again. Transfer deadline day. One of the most exciting days of the year or one of the most unnecessary? Maybe that is a debate for another time.
All the focus is on the Dimitar Berbatov saga, but here at Gooner Talk, we aim to bring you the latest Arsenal transfer news with midnight approaching as faster than ever.
Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is unlikely to join, mainly because of Gareth Barry’s commitment to Aston Villa. Saint Etienne playmaker Blaise Matuidi has been watched by Gilles Grimandi and a possible move could be on the cards if Arsenal enter late negotiations.
Some surprising names have been linked with the likes of Patrick Vieira and Klaas Jan Huntelaar two of the stars mentioned – the latter committing to Ajax earlier this afternoon.
One player who could certainly sign tonight is Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder. The experienced German international is out of favour at the Bernabeu and with Johan Djourou rumoured to be on his way to West Ham, Metzelder may prove to be a firm Gunners target.

This is the most exciting day of the transfer zone. I don't know what knows Wenger, but he will suprise us.
I can't imagine that Djourou will leave us, but we must make something very quickly, because we have not too much defenders. Metzelder is okay, but just on loan.
We don't need Hunteelar, and the Vieira-rumours are very crap gossips. If I sit in the Emirates during a match, I will be a new player?
Benitez said just that “I think that Xabi will remain here.” But it's interesting, because he told the papers that: “I was not doing the talks about Barry, I was not doing the talks about Alonso and Arsenal,”

And they will finalize thier contact with Rieira.
I hope the joining guy won't be a French, unexperienced, young players, because we have some from this.

got a feeling we'll definitely sign Matuidi he's a real Wenger type player and Grimandi has been watching him for ages. but i think metzelder will only sign if djourou goes. west ham supposedly bid £8million, but they have been in talks with paulo ferreria, so they might not get djourou. it all swings in roundabouts.
If getting Metzelder means selling JD then i don't want him. If JD is defo staying then the Germans efficiency would be very welcome. Also he is a fantastic all-winning CB which makes me doubt that Wenger will sign.
Really, when you think about it, Wenger has never signed a world class centre-back. He inherited the famous five, Got campbell on a free, Kolo was a midfielder, Gallas was as a swap and everyone else has thus far failed. Now is the time for AW to change his ways.

Anyone heard a rumour about Jimmy Bullard? He's got more than an uncanny resemblance to one Ray Parlour. Perhaps what we need to in terms of “an extra body in there”.

Um..Metzelder is slow. A big No No. I don't just want somebody. Someone better than the ones we have already. The Riera signing won't open up the possibility of Alonso leaving as he's gonna play on the left though if Liverpool find someone else quick enough then they may sell.
I just hope we dont sell Djourou as hes been in fine form so far this season and in pre-season. Metzelder though would be a good buy if Djourou is kept as Metzelder is your Vidic kind of defender everyone believes we need. Hope we sign a CM b4 the window is over hoping its Alonso but if the rumours about Veloso are true i wuldnt mind either.
On Paper, yes.
We don't need an another defender, if we won't let Djourou to leave us. We need a central/defensive midfielder, so Veloso, Alonso and Albiol are on the shortlist. Just while people deal with Berbatov and the Tottenham, Wenger is in talkings with several players, I think. But we will see, we are enough good to win the title without addings.

We are not going to sign anybody IMO and we'll yell at Wenger why didn't he buy someone?!? Cos i think Denilson will fail , he needs to learn more and our midfiield can't be hold by 19 year old unexperienced.
And Wenger answer on this will be
“We didn't find quality , as i said we were looking for quality and we didn't find it.”
And if someone gets injured he'll say
“If i knew that 2 of your midfielders would injure in 1 week i would have bought a defencive midfielder”
And when we'll finish 3rd in the league with few points more then now , he'll say
“We were better then last season and i know that we'll even better next season”
And again we'll sell like few of our key midfielders and again and again and again. FFS !
