Djourou Signs New Contract Ahead Of Carling Cup Tie

Johan Djourou has signed a new, long-term contract with Arsenal which will reportedly see him stay at the club until 2012.

The 21-year-old Switzerland international centre-back joined the Gunners from Etoile Carouge in 2003.

Born in the Ivory Coast but raised in Geneva, Djourou has made four appearances this season most recently coming off the bench to replace injured Gael Clichy in the win over Bolton on Saturday which sent the Gunners top of the Premier League.

He is set to come in for Kolo Toure tomorrow evening and claim a place in the Arsenal XI against Sheffield United – a match where Johan will be the most experienced defender on the pitch.

Djourou has made 51 appearances for the Gunners, including 3 in the 2006/07 season.

Definitely.

He's a towering defender, I really like him. Probably played better than Toure this season when given his few chances.

Yeah, I think his pre season meriited him as first choice with Gallas – not doing so was partly to blame for the Fulham result. Still, love everyone at present, Eboue is proving himself which has coincided with Walcott staking his place in the side. Loving to see Song play as I want to see how far he can go !

It's so good to know that we have solidity in our future CB positions.I think it's one of our main issues at the moment. I can see him leading a very strong back four for us in the not too distant future. Great to have him on a long term contract. He has obviously earned it. Good for the lad.
