Match Preview: Arsenal v Sheffield Utd (Carling Cup)
|As if the first team wasn’t youthful enough, Gunners manager Arsène Wenger has consistently used the Carling Cup to blood promising youngsters. Expect, then, to get a first home glimpse of Welsh wonderkid Aaron Ramsey and maybe even teenage English winger Jack Wilshere who impressed in pre-season. The thinness of the squad, however, may also mean a start for surprise centre-back signing Mikael Silvestre.
Sheffield United will be a stern test and boast plenty of Premier League experience with one-time England defender Ugo Ehiogu, former England striker James Beattie, as well as midfielder Gary Speed who seems to have been around since decimalisation. Kevin Blackwell’s side will fancy their chances against a club with one eye on forthcoming Champions League encounters.
Arsenal met Sheffield United in last year’s Carling Cup fourth round. Croatian striker Eduardo da Silva scored a brace and Denilson added a third as a young Arsenal side strolled into the last eight. The Gunners were eventually eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur in the last four.
Fabianski
G.Hoyte – Djourou – Song – Gibbs
Wilshere – Ramsey – Randall – Merida
Bendtner – Vela

That's an alarmingly young squad, even for the Arsenal. Remember the days when our “youth” meant Diarra, Diaby and Gilberto would get a trot along the pitch? Now, we really ARE playing the kids. If you think that Bendnter, Cesc, Song, Walcott, Nasri, Vela and Denilson are all 21 or younger, and how much faith has been placed on their shoulders, it's scary stuff.
I saw Wilshere in the flesh at the Blackburn game, and he looks exactly like a sixteen year old kid. It's freaking me out somewhat. I'm some kind of lucky rabbit's foot for the Arsenal (we have a 100% record when I'm in the stands), but it's can't go on forever – I'll be in Newcastle during the game, and there's no way I can make it down to London. Fucking hell, if we lose, I'll never forgive myself. Why, oh why, did fate place upon me the awesome responsibility of being Arsenal's good luck charm?
Stilll, interesting to see what the kid, the REAL kids, are made of. And I'd like to see Merida get a game. Want to see what the fuss is all about.
What's average Age for the Squad?
And can I have some streams please Chris? I don't know any websites
In that predicted starting lineup i only have doubts about randall and hoyte.Rest all seem good enough.Wilshere looked good against juve and madrid and even scored against stuttgart so i dont think it will be much of a prob.Randall is slighty overrated.Would rather see coquelin or let song play and play silvestre in defense
Ehiogu is 35.If he plays vela is going to have the time of his life
It's showing on Arsenal TV – the full 90 mins.
The live game isn't on TV.
Not sure about the average age.

Can you read?
This game is not being shown live on TV anywhere in the world so Arsenal TV will be the first and only channel to show the full 90 minutes – from midnight the day of the match (UK time).
yup, brings a new meaning to 'youthful'
the squad is oozing with potential, but i would be concerned that arsenes being a bit cocky here. there has to be a balance imo- a few leaders around the pitch wouldnt do any harm, people with proper experience who can lead them on. and sheffield are no mugs- beware the poacher billy sharp, one of the best young strikers in the championship, and their side has the experience to make this a battle. And they really dont care about making life very hard for arsenal. but then, everyone said that about arsenal every last round last year, writing them off each round or so. the good thing about this side is that it has two reliable pairings on the pitch in djourou/ song and bendtner/vela, two partnerships which have played together before and know the buisness, and fabianski should be able to hold his own in goal.
this could be a tight match.
Waiting for some P2P stream for live coverage, it will be highly appreciable
Should be another interesting match!
sHEFF ARE NO MUGS BUT WE SHOULD WIN.
