Sagna: France Have Same Problem As Arsenal

Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna admitted on French radio that his France team-mates haven’t been good enough in their recent World Cup Qualifiers, and their number one problem has been the amount of goals conceded on set pieces – something that has troubled Sagna’s domestic season with Arsenal so far.

Les Bleus, managed by Raymond Domenech, have conceded a wild 12 goals in just 5 games – ten of those coming from set pieces. Sagna spoke with RMC about the issues with defending and much more.

“We [France] have conceded too many goals on set-pieces, the same problem we have at Arsenal as well. It’s very difficult, there isn’t much time to work on them when we’re on International duty. What needs to happen is extra communication at the back, everyone must defend.”

The 25-year-old fullback revealed his backing for France boss Raymond Domenech and also admitted he was surprised at the level of criticism aimed at the legendary defender, labelling it ‘very harsh’.

“Everyone always talks about our coach [Domenech]. All the players think it’s too harsh on him. He is a very good coach and is proven at the International stage”
