Reports: Arshavin's Agent 'confirms' Arsenal move
Russia hotshot Andrei Arshavin will be an Arsenal player in the coming days, according to his agent Dennis Lachter.
Italian daily TuttoMercato says 27-year-old Arshavin will sign a 5-year deal at the Emirates with Zenit pocketing £18m from the transfer fee.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is a known admirer of the highly-rated star, beat off competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham and Liverpool.
Arshavin’s representitive Dennis Lachter commented on the transfer, saying:
“Andrei is rated by Wenger who wanted him to sign [for Arsenal] last summer. This transfer would please everyone but we must wait a few days for confirmation.”
French tactician Wenger refused to say whether or not Arshavin could be an Arsenal player earlier last week, but replied with a cheeky smile – typical of the coy Alsatian.

Wenger has always had a problem with giving people over 30 long contracts, so I can’t see why Arshavin would still have 3 years left once he’s hit 30. I’d have thought a 3 year contract would be much more realistic.

The agent did not claim that Arshavin was signing for Spurs. He said he “predicts Arshavin would sign for spurs” back in june. As we know the deal did not materialise as spurs did not meet Zenit’s asking price.

Perhaps Arshavin got an extended contract in a compromise for lower wages and the fact of the webster ruling… which allows a player over 27 to buy out his contract after serving half of it or something like that…

I think the 5 year deal seems a bit iffy. I would have thought 3 would have been enough and 18 mill its alot of money. I’d expect it to be something like 14-15 million + add ons if certain criterias are met. If this is true it surely puts a Rosicky in the dark if he ever does return from his injury. I’ve heard that he’s not injured aswell, and hes been given a 1 year ban by the f.a for failing a drugs test but the f.a arent releasing the names of the failing players. Any thoughts ?

I hope this is true. He has been linked with us for way too long for all of this to be bull shit. However I take with caution whatever is printed in the italian press as I have noticed in the past whenever a player in italy is negotiating a deal their agent always seems to use Arsenal to get a better pay package.
Could it be that Arshavin is in talks with Juve? And to scare them into getting a better pay for Arshavin they are using Arsenal? I am not sure.

It’s speculation at the moment but whatever the situation Wenger likes him and there is always going to be this. Also according to Tuttosport we are looking at Rosina which makes a lot of sense but could be another more mere paper talk.
Arshavin is a great player hes up there with the best, he proved his worth in the Euros when he out shinned great players like Ronaldo and more. The only thing what worries me abit is the guys stamina it isn’t the best and i know this was one of the reason’s why Wenger did not end up bidding for him in the summer but if i was Wenger i would definitely by him and try to increase his Energy levels i dont think we can offered to miss out on a player with this sort of caliber.

To be fair mate, there is no confirmation that Arshavin is coming to us. Also why does only one Italian website have the quotes and no other sources? Surely if this would true it would be all over the web? I think the italian site have merely taken the quotes from a few days ago when Arshavin’s agent confirmed Wenger liked the player and re-worded them.
And there is nothing wrong with Chris quoting other sources even if they are not that reliable. He is simply reporting it and leaving it to our intelligence to decide whether its plausible or not.
Nothing wrong in that all news agencies do that as long as you state your source (which he has) then there is nothing wrong in it.

Looking at the quote from his agent, I think its been taken out of context. ‘We must wait a few days for confirmation’. Perhaps he means wait for confirmation of our interest in Arshavin. If you look at the quote he says’ Andrei is rated by Wenger’…and then says ‘ we have to wait for confirmation’, thus implying that although Wenger likes Arshavin it remains to be seen whether he follows up his interest and makes a formal bid. I dont think for one minute we are signing him. Can you see Wenger smashing our transfer record for a 27 year old who he openly crticised for going missing in games during the world cup? Its a tad suspicious that this quote is only on an italian website and no other source. Surely if his agent had just confirmed that Arshavin was on the verge of joining Arsenal it would be all over the web and on sites like BBC, Planet Football etc. Im not buying this for a minute.

I do agree that it is a little suspicious that it’s not on any other websites but how many of Arsene’s transfers make the BBC pages before it’s official. Think back to Eduardo, Reyes etc.
If Dangerous is right and not making stuff up, then perhaps it’s because of Gazidis that it’s not anywhere else.
I’m not saying this deal is kosher and I’m not banking on it. However, I’m looking at it with an open-minded approach. What will be will be. If we don’t sign him, I’m sure Wenger’s got other options up his sleeve. At least I hope.

hi everyone…long time reader, first time poster…lifelong gunners fan. I think Arshavin would be a great player for us although I suspect if we do sign him itll be far less than 18/20M. Im concerned though, because we still need that holding midfielder and wonder whether that will happen if we spend big here….I feel we need that more than a winger/att. mid.
One final thing – the people slagging off Kolo should be ashamed to call themselves Arsenal fans. His attitude and consistency over years of service probably had you screaming for him to get the armband not so long ago….he has had a serious illness which takes over a year to get over, if at all, and you all want this loyal servant sold. Dont know what to make about the Arshavin transfer Saga but what i do know is that if it were true it would not solve Arsenals problems. Yes we have a young squad that is unbalanced but what i really think is missing is the team spirit and togetherness all Wengers previous squads have had. I say out with the disruptive elements in the squad at the end of the season and lets do some serious shopping at the end of the season..

Indeed, I have to agree with chris and JohnV. If Wenger wasn’t interested or planning a move he would normally say a straight ‘No’. Therefore, as he said ‘no progress’ that could mean he is currently trying to sort out a deal.
Of course, it could be Wenger being coy with the reporters, knowing full well he isn’t signing Arshavin but someone else altogether. And, he didn’t actually say he isn’t planning on bidding for Arteta, just that they haven’t made an enquiry.
