Marouane Chamakh — almost an Arsenal player
Marouane Chamakh has admitted that it is extremely likely that he will be joining Arsenal after stating that he will be playing in England next season.
26-year-old Chamakh has been with Bordeaux for a long time and his all action displays up front have been one of the main reasons why Bordeaux have been so successful in recent years,winning last seasons Ligue Un title and reaching this years Champions League semi finals.
The forward clearly feels though that his time at the club has come to an end and has decided to move to one of Europe’s top leagues.
With his contract out at the end of the season, Chamakh has been able to talk to clubs since January and speculation has been rife as to where he may finally end up at the beginning of next years campaign.
Now though, it finally seems like he has made his mind up and although he has not actually confirmed his destination Arsenal, who have been tracking him for several years, looks to be the most likely one.
“I am delighted to join the English football atmosphere, it is something amazing,” he said speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe.
“I love Arsenal’s game. I know I will have to adapt but I know the short passing game with (Bordeaux midfielder) Yoann Gourcuff.
“In February, I made my decision. A departure clause (in a potential new Bordeaux contract) was not logical after refusing Arsenal last summer.
“Arsenal were not alone. There were Liverpool, Tottenham and crazy offers from Russia.
“But I was only focused on the Premier League.”
The Moroccan international has played for Bordeaux for a decade and admits that when he leaves it will be a sad day.
“For my last matches with Bordeaux I can feel a lot of emotion,” he added.
“But I am leaving for a new challenge. At Bordeaux I was the club’s child. In London, I won’t be a kid anymore.
“I have grown, I have things to prove and I am motivated to achieve it.”
Good. this must be followed by at least 2 signings.. a CB and definitely a new keeper, sell fabianski he is beyond inept and put almunia to number 2
unlike carlos vela this boy knows where the net is i think arsenal will put more crosses into the box now knowing they have a lad that is lethel with his head
i see this kid has a 1 in 3 goals ratio in the french league. Hope its not another “developing” player we are getting. he looked useful in the champs lge but we need a 25 goals a season player at our club and fast of which hes got less than half that in the french league
the deal was done months ago been a gooner for a while. think he will do well has great potential

Less than half? 13 is more than half of 25. Normally it’s 25 in all competitions right? Well he has close to 20 for the last two seasons, so I think he’ll be just fine. As long as we create he will score, unless he never adapts. He certainly isn’t “developing” anyway. Have you never bothered to watch him play?

This Chamakh looks average at best should have bought Huntelaar proven world class goal scorer out of favor when we had the chance mark my words this guy is no superstar not fast enough quote me on that.
He will get 14 goals at the most next season and we already have this with Bendtner we need a speedy superstar proven Premier league Player like a Drogba or Rooney someone who knows were the back of the net is and terrorises defenders just like Henry used to.
Niang would be better 16 goals in 30 games
He is quick,muscly,has fantastic dribling skill like cristiano,good on air but he like adebayo on finishing the goal.

hmm. first of all Bordeaux did not reach the semis in CL. they were kicked out in quaters.
Next we have Chamakh with great aerial threat but who could cross the ball, good and consistant? i think its only rosicky n fab who could do that. maybe clichy n nasri at times.
Maybe with him playing we might actually have a chance of scoring from set pieces or crosses…

He has a lot to prove next season as far as being a goal getter. But what I like about him is that he will be important on defensive set pices, and will be brilliant in games against stoke, wigan, blackburn etc. Hope Cahill, Buffon and a defensive midfielder will join him!!! But it`s not likely.:(
It’s great that we have ppl coming into this great club. But, why do we always have to get unproven players, we should have enough money to buy players the likes of torres and villa, not a player that we can get for free. if he was so special, other teams would have bought him already. its great to see him at the club, but i wish wenger would spend some money. season tickets have gone up and it would be good to see the money spent to strengthen our defence

He isn’t free, he’ll cost us 80k per week so I would not call it free. IMO he’s shite and he is perfect for a club like Bordeaux, not the club we have in mind.
yeah it will be a good signing, in my opinion he will not set the premiership alight, but come febuary us gooners will be very thankfull for him, given our squad will be starting to thin out with injuries..

Really rocket? Huntelaar proven world-class striker? What the fuck are you smoking and can I have some. He’s complete garbage, scoring in Netherlands isn’t worth much unless you’re consistently amazing like Luis Suarez who would be a perfect signing for us if we needed more strikers, which I’m not sure is the case. We all know that we’re getting a new defender otherwise, when Gallas and Sylvestre leave, we’ll only have one starter- Verm. The “surprise” signing should deffinitely be a keeper, we’re not getting Hart or any big name, but I would be content with Frey and extremely happy with either Akinfeev or Pyatov. Other suggestions are welcome on the keeper but besides that I think we’d benefit from a versatile d-mid/defender like Denielli DeRossi, whose a beast but is getting up there in age. If 3 of these 4 signings happen then I would be a very happy fan.
