Reports: Cole to sign after World Cup
England ace Joe Cole will join Arsenal on a free transfer once he returns from the World Cup, according to The Mirror, Daily Mail and People newspapers.
The 28-year-old’s contract at Chelsea runs out soon with Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger already revealing his interest in the talented playmaker.
The Mirror suggest that Cole’s primary reason for leaving Stamford Bridge after seven years at the club was growing concerns about his chances of regular first-team football under manager Carlo Ancelotti.
And while his reported excessive wage demands may have presented a stumbling block for Chelsea – given the Blues reluctance to meet his expectations – Wenger is said to be more willing to offer larger contracts to players in a bid to build a title-winning team.

It is also on the daily mail. Combine this with the fact that Rednapp has said Cole has probably already agreed a deal and the daily star’s report last week i think this is highly likely.
Good player, good experience and on a free but where the hell are we going to play him? Unless he plays cb or goalie. I think this signals the end of rosicky and maybe even Eduardo. Hope he is not a replacement for Cesc.

I don’t think you can say it’s highly likely at all. Most people agree those websites are not reliable yet people seem to believe unreliable sources when they want a deal to happen.
The content is nothing new, no new information. Redknapp said he’d signed elsewhere, doesn’t mean it’s here. ESPN said a source told them he’s off to Manchester City.
As Chris put the article, Wenger likes Cole, I think we all do, but we shouldn’t let our desire to sign Joe get in the way of a lack of facts.

Seems very similar to Rosicky. If this is true that he’s coming, it probably will signal the end for Rosicky. Cole is younger and quicker and better able to play on the wing. Rosicky has been very average since coming back from injury. It has been good to see him on the pitch, but he has almost never been a standout performer. Now, if Cole comes, does that threaten Nasri’s place as a starter? Wenger has always played Nasri when he’s been fit, but I’m not sure if this version of Joe Cole is better than him or not. Wenger could play Nasri and Fabregas in the middle, a la Barca with Iniesta and Xavi, with Cole on the wing but we’d need to keep possession at Barca levels to make that work.
Keeping in mind the amount of injuries we seem to get every season, he will probably get enough chances without getting rid of Eduardo or Rosicky… both who I feel deserve one more season.
Just To let you all know Cesc fabregas is not leaving arsenal… he has allegidly agreed to stay one more season, i know a guy from behind the scenes

Speculations involve terms like ‘interested’, ‘looking to sign’, ‘going to bid’. But these few papers specifically state that cole ‘is signing’ and the wages he is going to get. They will print something like that without their trusted and reliable sources. I think this is a done deal, and what a coup by Wenger already. two free transfers and two top class players. Silvestre earns around the same as chamakh and Gallas is on par with cole contract so we will not be breaking our wage structure.
in other news, heard almunia is attracting valencia in spain and Wenger is seriously looking at Schwarz. The reasons i believe being he wants a solid keeper, and very solid he is, to play for a couple of seasons and wait for mannone and Szczęsny to mature and take over. what he is doing seems very logical, instead of signing someone like adler, akinfeev or lloris that will be in that post for the next 10 years, how will these 2 young keepers take the news? and i believe either one of them could be our future long term number 1.

I think this will prove a masterstroke by Arsene as always… Cole is gud n he surely wants 2 start regularly, Which means competition 4 arshavin (who i think has already hinted its a little too easy for him at arsenal). A natural winger is what i believe we need (since god knows when) n its been quite incidental that we do well with a natural winger(over the years). So walcott gets a shift to the middle then… gr8 signing if it happens! Joe cole could be moved to one end n walcott the other so we have 2 gud wingers. After all the injuries that have ruined pasts seasons I’m not worried about where Cole will play or who he will replace when he does. We need starting 11 type quality coming off the bench no matter who ends up performing that duty. We need quality depth to compete for both the league and all the tourneys. Wenger truly is a genius if he pulls this off. Both Chamakh and Cole on a free in the same summer is Brilliant.
This is what will happen. Cole comes in, Cesc will øeave for about 50 mill, which is a fair price, AW will buy a another midfielder (Jean Il Makoune). Probably a couple of defenders (Cahill, Taylor or that dude from Loirent). Arshavin will play in cesc role behind the srtiker and cole takes Arshavin`s position. Hopefully we also get a quality goaly, talks about Scwartser but I have a strange feeling about him.

I’m seriously not sure about cole or the fulham keeper. Yes they have experiance. Yes they are good players. But are they arsenal players? A 37 year old keeper and a player who is clearly only after the money? I’m not saying I would be upset with the players signing but I was expecting a little more than this. Wenger mentioned 2-3 players before the world cup. Can see that happening now. If cesc leaves that’s another player (gourcuff only) who we will need to sign. I’m thinking sol, another defender, a goalkeeper and cesc replacement. That’s alot of work within 5 days. I hope we don’t get to the start of the season and wenger says he is happy with his squad. Everything with regards to transfers seems a bit up in the air atm. Cole and Schwarzer are rumoured to be coming but for all we know, its just paper talk. Cesc is off, according to Barca and Almunia has apparently gone aswell….

Presuming that Campbell, Silvestre, Gallas and Ponderous are all off I think 2 centre backs would be good. Nordveit could be on the fringes – i.e. Carling Cup etc and Bartley on loan. That said its most likely we’ll just get one – Koscielny/Subotic and it’d be Vermaelen, Djourou, new CB and Nordveit. Is the Subotic link from a reliable source?
