Jagielka's injury prevents rumoured Arsenal move
|Everton defender Phil Jagielka’s potential move to Arsenal has been put in doubt after the 28-year-old reportedly suffered a recurrence of his troublesome knee injury.
Experienced stopper, Jagielka would add considerable Premier League know-how to the Arsenal squad and bolster the Gunners’ defence. However, reports suggest that this fresh injury could put him out of action for 6 weeks – preventing any possible transfer to the Emirates.
Meanwhile, Wenger has also been scouting a number of other defenders across Europe and, despite having already spent £8.5 million on French defender Laurent Koscielny during this transfer window, has an available transfer budget comfortably in excess of £20 million.
The other priority is the goalkeeping position, with Wenger having recently made the stark admission that he did not feel like he had an obvious ‘No 1’. Arsenal’s main target is Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and a fresh offer is thought to be imminent.
In other news, Barcelona’s vice-president has said that the Spanish giants will “respect” Arsenal’s wish not to sell skipper Cesc Fabregas.

To be honest I don’t think Everton would have sold him anyway. Would’ve been happy with the move personally but now that he’s had a recurrance of his injury it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
Seems like the sack man could seriously be on his way as Tasci is out of the picture – anyone but Diakhate, please. Personally I would love to see Richards at the Emirates.
“We would like very much that the relationship between Fabregas and his manager, Arsene Wenger, return to normal”
does this mean there is a conflict between the two of them, or am i reading too much into it?
anyway, regarding the defensive issue, i can’t think of a player that realistically wenger might really be looking into.
jagielka maybe, but everton probably wouldn’t have sold, tasci commands too high a fee for wenger signings… who else?
can we not integrate nordveit? yes he is still young. however, he is going to be our 4th choice centre back anyway…
wenger out. we wont get a new gk nor dm and djorou will be like a new signing. no wonder cesc wants to go. fukk i hate this french stubborn idio. hope for more empty seats. wenger thinks he is arsenals god. enough is enough. he promised and lied again. heshould go in politics.
am guessing christian zapata and mertesacker…
a) there is nothing about barcelona – not its front office, players, fans, finances – that exudes respect. they are a joke of an organization that loses money, borrows it, taps up other players and clubs, all with the loathable spanish bravado i cannot wait to forget.
b) not to fussed about jagielka. would prefer metesacker, who while not fast has the qualities we need in the premier league – he is tall and can head. last year, we lost points against shit teams because they were good at set pieces (even applies against some of the bigger teams). with pet, that would be alleviated (go back and watch argentina match if you disagree).
c) still need a keeper but i am afraid we will not get one.
@arsenal4ever out because you make the same stupid comments. Just shut up and support the club.
i think mertesaker HAS to come to the emirates if we want to win anything, i wouldnt mind schwarzer but id just like the purchases to be made soon so we are not playing liverpool with kos and flapianski in the same team. flapi has proven that for some reason he has great shot stopping skills but then he has butter fingers wen it comes to crosses. the reason i dont think cos should play is because if liverpool are in reform then this could be a do or die game at the end of the season.
i think a transfer embargo should be put on barca (and other clubs in their position) that have to take out a loan just to buy players (cesc) or pay wages to their superstar team.
Why should Arsenal suffer for being run properly and other clubs be succesful for being corrupt. THE RULE AND REGULATIONS HAVE TO CHANGE
Re: Paragraph 3 above… I thought Ivan Gazidis told shareholders back in May that Arsene had a £45 million transfer war chest for this summer. Regardless we have plenty of cash to strengthen. And I can’t think of a good reason why aren’t continuing to do so. Chamakh and Koscielny may be good starts, but it’s clear that we need to add additional quality and cover. Frustrating when we are so close to being able to seriously challenge for trophies!
1st Team:
Szczesny
Sagna – Koscielny – Vemalean – Clichy
Fabregas – Song – Nasri
VanPersie – Chamakh – Arshavin
2nd Team:
Mannone(Fabianski)
Eboue – Djourou – Nordtveit – Gibbs(Traore)
Wilshere – Denilson – Diaby(Ramsey)
Walcot – Bendtner – Vela
3rd Team:
James.Shea
Eastmond – Bartley – Miquel – Botelho(Cruise)
Coquelin(Henderson) – Frimpong – Lansbury(Randall)
J.E.Thomas(W.Silva) – Simpson(Sunu) – Barazite(Watt)
Wat We Need:
Mark Schwarzer + Petr Mertesacker = Premier League Champions,Champions League Champions, FA Cup Champions and Carling Cup Champions.
If Wenger signs 2 more important signings GK and DC…I think we can really have a go at the title..I want Cesc to win the league with us he deserves it…I understand Wengers point about the youngsters coz one can see how A.Song has improved,Ramsey before that injury was doing well,Nasri as well. This year hopefully more players will improve but we still need 2 more players for sure coz if our Gk and defence department are not solid we will lose point time and again.
I would agree, arsenal4ever sounds like an ass. Not sure if he is even a arsenal fan, maybe he justs wants to stir things up. I also agree that bringing in two players, one gk and one cb would help tons. But our current team is strong, and if we finish in the top 3 again i’ll be a very happy man.
WillyG, I totally agree with you.
@arsenal 4ever: Fucking fool you are, are you Puyol in disguise? Wenger must buy british because of the new regulations. Gary Cahill the most obviouse choice, he is a martin keown type and just what we need. Bolton might be asking s high fee, but we have the money so pay them. Mertesacker would be just fine, but we need a british signing.
@Ole: I guess you haven’t looked at the new regulations because if you had, you’d understand we don’t need a british player for that reason.
