Arsenal win Emirates Cup + Wenger on Frimpong & Mertesacker
Arsenal’s English contingent showed Three Lions boss Fabio Capello exactly what talent he has waiting in the wings after the duo impressed during the Gunners’ Emirates Cup winning 3-2 victory over Celtic.
Walcott’s ingenuity created the third-minute opener for Mexican striker Carlos Vela, while youngster Wilshere showed superb trickery against a Bhoys side who almost put on a late comeback.
Goals from Vela, Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri put the Gunners three goals to the good after just 51 minutes, but Celtic’s new signing Daryl Murphy and South Korean midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng gave Arsene Wenger another example as to why more defensive cover is needed.

Post-Match Reaction
After the game, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spoke about Emmanuel Frimpong’s recent pre-season performances and admitted that the FA should persuade him to play for England fast, instead of his country of birth, Ghana.
Wenger said: “Here you have a boy who can choose between England and Ghana.
“So if I was in your place, I would have no hesitation and invite him to play very quickly for England.”
Speaking on potential transfer targets, Wenger typically refused to get drawn in on names, but revealed that he wants to sign at least one defender before the September 1st deadline.
“We still need a centre half of course. We are still short number wise. Just number wise. [We need] at least one. I would not like to come out on names because it raises the price straight away by 50 per cent.”
Want Frimpong to play for Ghana because I am Ghanaian .lol! All in all room for improvement especially in terms of defending but I am not one to freak out like other fans. In any case it is better to defend poorly know and learn from their mistakes and defend as a unit then do make mistakes against Liverpool.

Rosicky played a Fabregas’ role, while Vela was on the left flank; Walcott on the right, and JET up front.

I just think that players were tired at the end of the game and that is the reason of laps in concentration, hence the goals…I don’t think it is a huge issue but should be looked after….
Yeah,d game was good bt we need to improve in fight till d end.Frimpong needs experience as a back up which wl definitly help hm in hs game.
The Liverpool game is coming to early for the likes of Van Persie,Cesc possibly even A.Song,Denilson and Diaby.Why doesn`t the Premiership think about these things they could have set a date for at least a week later.We are going to start with a big disadvantage coz our 2 best players were playing in the world cup final.
About emirate cup: After d victory, while almunia was lifting d trophy somebody became arsenal fan instantly bcos of d wondaful tactics dat makes d game interesting, as perfect barca even defenders w’re dribbleling wit ful confidence. I think EPL’s idear of 8 home grown players ‘ll favor arsenal
