What do YOU make of Cesc's statement?
|Cesc Fabregas has insisted that he is fully focused on playing for Arsenal after committing himself to the London club for another year, ending speculation over a possible move to Barcelona.
The midfielder, who attended Arsenal’s Members Day yesterday, had been widely believed to be moving to the Nou Camp where he started his career, with a succession of Barca players encouraging him in public.
But earlier this afternoon, he finally announced his committment to the Gunners:
“I owe a lot to the club, manager and the fans and I will respect their decision and will now concentrate on the new season ahead with Arsenal. I can assure all the fans that now the negotiations have ended I will be 100 per cent focused on playing for Arsenal. I am an Arsenal player and as soon as I step out on to the pitch, that is the only club I will be thinking about. I am looking forward to the start of the season and putting this speculation behind me.”
What do you make of Cesc’s statement? Are you pleased the speculation has ended for now? Or do you think that this could still unsettle Arsenal throughout next season?
Leave your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below.
We won a battle but not the war.
he will try to win something this year if not he is surely off!!!!
@athlon: Very true.
Great news for us and for Cesc as well I think. He will be more than willing to lead us to trophys as long as he has the support from us fans. I for sure will provide it
Sounds like we dug our heels in and got him to stay Rightfully so, as he has 5 years left on his contract. Just hoping part of his reason to stay, is a promise by wenger of some top class players to be signed before the end of the transfer window.
Ask yourself if this was a captains statement.
As an outside how would you feel if Terry,Rooney,Gerrard made this sort of statement? For me it doesnt kill the story, it leaves doubts in fans minds, it does not appologise for leaving fans in limbo all summer.
You expect more from the captain of a top club, maybe we arent a top club? maybe that is why players and barca think its ok to disrespect us every summer?
he’s took his fu**ing time! If you ask me there’s no 100% commitment in that statement! It’s like ” I’m stuck here for now so il have to get on with it” we shouldve sold him. He ain’t going to be the same player. He knows if he picks up a long term injury, barca will end their interest, so there’s never going to be 100 % commitment in his tackling etc
This is only deferred for a year. There is no doubt whatsoever he’ll be off next year and Barca now know it will cost £40m+ to get him. I think he’ll give his all.
Cesc’s statement settles the matter for this season alone. He admits he wanted to stay home and only returned to London because Arsenal did not want to sell. Who can blame him, frankly? He has had a taste of winning things with Spain surrounded by would-be teammates from Barcelona. Unfortunately, he must be a bit underwhelmed by the transfer business done by the club so far. It can hardly feel like his international winning streak is set to continue at club level.
He didn’t apologise for leaving fans in limbo? “Firstly I would like to apologise to all the Arsenal fans for not speaking sooner about my future but I have not known what I was going to do until this moment.” Sounds like one to me. Not sure why this was omitted from the quote.
He will move to Barca next year but on a very positive note we will have hopefully a fully recovered Ramsey and more experienced Wilshere to take over. What people must remember that prior to Rambo’s injury he was really starting to make an impact, you could see he was beginning to control the midfield and be well able for the opposition.
We are Arsenal, we don’t talk about the players of other teams and we don’t take out bank loans to pay our own players! Barcelona may have an abundance of borrowed cash but not one ounce of Arsenal’s class! Now let’s get on with the season. Make no mistake about it. This can be a big season. Really excited about Frimpong and Wilshere breaking through. Up the Arse!
we have got to win the title this season. players like fabregas deserves to win the league cos he is the best midfielder in england if not the world. common gunners no more excuses. just do it this season.
what I want to say that it seems that OUR captain is staying not because he wanted to, but because he didn’t have the chance to go to the C**ts . He seems to talk about Barca more than Arsenal in his statement . What is really important that this statement should not affect his performance in the season and that We the fans have to show him the love because we need him in this season more than any other time. Cesc : now I don’t like you but you are still a player and the captain for Arsenal FC and that is why I will support you. Really the DNA thingy was true after all
I think Wenger should spend a bit of money to prove to Cesc he is serious about winning something. Otherwise what was the point of keeping him.
lets enjoy him this season because thats it
It is no great news if he is leaving next season for Barcelona. To me, the earlier the better, but if he is seeing out his contract, the statement would have been a great news. From the statement, I aint seen anywhere where he said he is seeing out his contract. You are beginning to be losing my loyalty Cesc.
I would have liked Cesc to come out with the statement alot earlier but like @ athlon said “we have won the battle but not the war”
We all know he will go to Barca one day – It’s a certainty like taxes & death.
However, I would be intrigued to know what Wenger has told Cesc in their private conversations. Surely Cesc must have asked what players we are interested in signing?
Hopefully AW gave him grounds to be optimistic!!
It’s a good statement, we all knew he wanted to leave and so if he came out and said “I didn’t want to leave, am happy at Arsenal” then it’s insulting our intelligence, and even more so if and when he leaves next year. He’s come out and been honest “yes I would have liked to leave because … but I am happy and commited to Arsenal whenever I go onto the pitch as I owe the club alot”. He has admitted what we knew but shown he is a professional by saying he’s happy to stay, now he just needs to back the words up on the pitch and show he wants to win things and we’ll all be happy, then next year he can leave at a higher price after a good season and we’ll have two (three if you count Nasri) players ready to step into his void and Tommy V will be in his third year and ready to become the captain.
For god’s sake. He’s come out and said he’ll stay this season. He Will go next year, of that I have no doubt! But the point is that he could’ve sulked and kicked up a fuss after Barca offered that crappy sum, but he didn’t!!! His statement hasn’t tried to say that there was no truth to the rumours. If Barca had offered what he is worth then he would’ve gone. They didn’t, he knows that and therefore he’s stayed and will play with his heart for another season. Cesc really is in a no-win situation. He’s always said he’d go home one day, and that’s just what he’s going to do. You really can’t hold that against him!
he’ll go eventually but he’s here now, all in, and he deserves our support.
don’t worry about the future.
good news for now, im not really sure what would happen next summer, but atleast he staying for this season.
🙂
I am glad Cesc is staying for a year. But if the fools did realise it- this is a result for Barca- because he will deveop more with us than sitting on Barca’s bench.
Cesc = Traitor.
If you want to leave to go ‘home’ then dont sign a 7 year deal. Easy as that.
F**k off back to Barca. Good riddance for season 2010/11, I for one wont be cheering your name this season el Capitano.
@goonergerry: But then we’ll raise our asking price and they’ll have to pay it. We’re the ones that have won here, not them!
Means nothing to me. He’ll still be off next year and we’ll have £40 mill for the board to stare at.
Now that he’s staying for at least another year, Arsene & co must show him they mean business and get the players needed to win anything! We need a goalkeeper and at least one more defensive signing before the window closes. If not, we risk losing more then our captain next summer. Remember, the biggest thing for a player is actually to win trophies….
Let this be Arsenals year..hell, Arsenals decade to come!!!
Cheers from Norway 🙂
Cesc is our Top Captain we should be proud of that, he is and honest man and a really nice guy lets back him to the hilt, Win the Title this year and our top capo will still be with us next season.Love you Cesc Come on you Gunners!
everybody knows that it is not a question of IF but WHEN will fabregas leave for barcelona. the only thing that i feel would make his departure sorely felt this summer is that because we have not won a single title yet since the invincibles batch. from what i saw, after that batch, arsenal had the better assembled team then now with the likes of hleb, rosicky at his prime, adebayor, flamini, dudu, gilberto and such. since then, players have left the club; good, matured, winning players but amazingly, the best of the lot, fabregas, stayed.
we hear people saying that this is arsene’s team, arsene has the cash to buy, etc. etc. but for me, really, fabregas is staying because wenger is staying. the club are holding them ransom for ‘financial reasons’. he said he had long conversations with arsene and he is staying for maybe just one more season before he leaves for sure so, had arsene persuaded him to stay because he is the brain, the soul of the team? or that he wants fabregas to be just a little patient and leave arsenal along with him next summer?
i think hes shown the club respect as hes admitted where his thoughts were but shows his love for our club and us.
Incredible that some people would rather be lied to than told the truth. We knew he wanted to go to Barça this summer, at least he acknowledges it and promises to be 100% focused on Arsenal this year. And knowing Cesc, you know that’s 100% true. If Barça want him they’ll have to pay what he’s worth next year, they’ve seen that trying to get him on the cheap doesn’t work.
I like the statement, it’s honest. No attempt to hide his desire to leave for Barca. There are still lots of idiot gooners who think it was all a media invention. He did apologize to the fans. And he clearly loves Arsenal. He’ll stay with us this season. I can live with that.
…and in that next 12 months he can fleece the club of £6,240,000 in wages on his vastly improved contract while doing everythgin he can not to get injured and wreck his transfer to Barca.
Gee, thanks traitor.
I believe what he said is absolutely correct. It is understandable for him to go to Barca only because it is his old school and he has mates in the same area and place. His family are there as well. Hey, we all travel for a long time to find a suitable job. But we always do miss our families and friends.
Cesc is a good and honest person. He also knows we are his best mates … I mean Arsenal. As they say, where your bread is your home. Cesc acknowledged this in his statement. I am sure he will dedicate his time with Arsenal for at least a year.
Please do not forget, Barcelona has a cash problem…. that is why they could not afford to offer more than £30 mil. ( even that is to be raised by issuing Barca bonds vs Steander bank). Barcelona could not even pay the full wages in June 2010.
According to my friend… Mr. Henry, he was paid in two folds. One in mid May 2010 and another in at the end of May 2010.
I would like to assure you all Arsenal fun, Cesc can only be bought by Barca, may be, in two years time. The FC do not have enough in its till otherwise what they did is embarrassing to Barca’s chairman. Soon you will hear the truth. As a cover up they used all like (Inesta, Messi, and so on ) to put Arsen and Cesc under pressure.
Arsenal was really in a strong point from Four points of view in my own estimation as such it wasnt either Barcelona or Fab4’s decision to make.
Firstly Fab4 was signed on to the Arsenal for a five year deal. If it was a two year or one year deal then the possibility of loosing Fab4 would have been high.
Secondly Fab4 wasnt in his late twenties meaning he couldnt buy out his contract. Thirdly Barcelona are not in a healthy financial state hence there inability to press the deal through. Fourth and correlative to the third is the fact that The Arsenal are in a good state financially so dont need Barcelona’s money (which they dont have in any case).
Good we have him back and rearing to go. Hope we win a throphy this season.
although i dont say it as strongly, i agree with the dirty turkey. i dont want to hear this poor cesc nonsense or wenger needs to prove to cesc that arsenal has title ambititions, etc. if cesc was homesick and loved barca he wouldnt have signed the 7 year deal. its not like he is stuck on the bench in bratislava. he is playing for one of the top clubs in the world, makes outstanding wages, is the captain, has one of the best managers in the world, and fans love him. oh, and he gets to live in london.
he needs to go a lot farther than this little apology to prove his desire and ambition for the club. how about not staying injured and producing game in and out.
What I make of this is, “I want to go to C***alunya, but Arsenal refused to sell me. I will go next year.” Give the armband to Vermaelen.
While I welcome the statement and his commitment for this year, it’s clear he has had his head turned, like several Arsenal players in the past. There was no commitment there to see out his contract, so we can only realistically expect one, perhaps two at best, years from Cesc. The only thing I can see standing in the way a move next year is if Barcelona go into administration due to their debts. Otherwise they will find the £40M next Summer, at which point Arsene will sell him. Even if they do go into administration, they will still manage to find the money the following year.
Fortunately, Arsenal are producing a lot of young talent. Cesc is one of the first off the Wenger production line. For a continued throughput of talent it helps if senior players do occasionally move on. While I don’t want to see Cesc go, it makes space for the likes of Jack Wilshere and those following him up through the ranks. Let’s just hope that the money for Cesc gets spent on improving the team further where there are weaknesses.
30m couldnt buy cesc this summer or next summer if you ask me.. Gotta agree with the 1st post though.
Cesc is mr. Arsenal right now, whether you like it or not. If he left us this year I’m sure we wouldn’t finish anywhere near the top-four, ’cause Wenger would be too stubborn to buy a player he really wants. Paying 2,3 millions more for players like Alonso, Jagielka or Ronaldo wouldn’t kill us at all.
You didn’t even put the full statement on here. It’s quite sickening to read the whole thing. What does it mean to be a captain of Arsenal these days? F*** all if Barcelona is clearly where you would rather be. What is happening to our club.
99% no new keeper, no trophies and no Cesc in a year, great 🙁
For me cesc will never be the same after this. An absurd aspect is that as Barca are short on funds, his best chance to join them as he clearly wants, is by lowering his value, ie not playing to his best. I think he is more pro than that, but a few shady performances late in the season will raise the suspision.
We should not read too much into the statement apart the fact that he is leaving when arsene leaves next year.Even John Terry wanted to move Citey for extra on top of his £120k
I like to keep things short an sweet “nice 1” ok maybe not this time, he’l win the league with Arsenal an pack his bags next yr, while arsenal line there pockets with 50mil “nice 1”, p.s he is the best. thank you
Can’t blame him.. Almunia is still number 1, only 3 first team CB’s… playing next to denilson.. what happened to the war chest? New season 9 days away…
I’m sorry anyone who is upset at his statement is the same type of person who still needs mummy to wipe their botty. It’s just a JOB and Cesc is handling it in a professional manner.
Man up. Support your club and stop crying. The days of loyalty from players are long gone. They only thing we should be fretting about is the heath of Fab4s successor……Aaron Ramsey
You guys saying Fabregas is not fit to be captain……….if it was Gerrard who made the comment……….i blv gerrard made his intentions known about leaving for chelsea 4 yrs ago and his fans did not slaughter him. This is a team he never played for as a youth, never had ties with. yet cause chelsea where winning the league wanted to leave. In my view, if he says he his gonna give 100 percent……he would and he has proven that in yrs gone by. Wenger also need to spend money and bring in qulaity defenders that would make him realise trophies could be won in arsenal rather than run to barcelona. We clearly see that his aim is not for the money but titles. Lets face it Ronaldo left Man utd even when they were winning trohpies…… What would Fabregas have to show for being in Arsenal for 8 yrs when his mates at barcelona tell him they felt as good previous season when they world cup and all fabrgeas would say is ” atleast i am playing in the champions league”………… A player of fabregas class deserves better than the likes of denilson when wenger could aswell pay 2 million to bring in Senna…….. buy a classy goalkeeper and improve the defense, rather than same story every about him being sure we are gonna win trophies and the players are growing without actually achieving nothing.
He’s staying until Summer 2011. He knows he’d just be a substitute player for Barca until then.
Let’s give him support until he goes, just like we did with TH14.
Well good news in some respects that he is staying as he is one of the few truly world class players but his statement shows he wants to leave.
Do we really want that from our players, no less our captain.
I know that Barca were offering only a small amount but it was still 30mil…is that not better than an unhappy player (despite what he says he still wants to go.
Will barca up their bid next year? I’m not so sure…
Love him as a player but I want my captain to love my club and die for my club, Cesc (understandably given he is a Catalan) will not.
Reply To all Arsenal Funs and Gooner name “arne”
Please note that a value of a player can not be determined because he played bad in one year.
Arsen knows that when Cesc is leaving. This year, Arsen is going to solidify a player almost like cesc. This is in 2011. Both Arsen and Cesc knows that if Barca raises the offers to £50 mil. Then both happy and Arsen can buy Ozil (German -Turkish) at any cost with immediate effect. But that is not going to happen as Barca has no sufficient funs.
The issue is with Barca, if and when they can afford it. For Arsen it is a family issue i.e he almost baby seat every player like a father and it is hard to leave. Imagine to be shouted at by Barca managers and remain seated on bench at all times.
Please note that Cesc for Barca is a secondary issue. All players equivalent to Cesc (SPAIN TEAM) come from Barca….. So Barca is not short of Cesc. Cesc is very important to Arsenal but a secondary issue for Barca.
Do not be felled, Cesc knows that very well…..
Gooner Afeworki
Cesc really idn’t want to stay, he only stayed because he was obliged because arsenal refused to sell him, this will very much affect his performance next season and his morale as well, what would he feel like if arsenal reached the final of CL and had to face barcelona, what if arsenal didn’t win anything next season, which could happen if arsene didn’t use the transfer budget, would he accept to stay against his will next summer? i guess not!!
we should have sold him this summer for like 50m euro, cause next season i am sure arsenal will have to accept any offer around 40m euro because the player would not tolerate the situation and could hand in a transfer request to the fifa which could leave arsenal with nothing
Am happy both with cesc statment and most of the ideas of the fans i have read so far. let us pray that GOD help him and all our players to win trophies. Fabri is a single person and can’t win alone, and infact “no win” seems one of his frastrations to leave Arse. The next season? no one can be sure of it. what if Barca went in to financial crisis? or what if Arse wins EPL and ESL and Fabri happy at arse? all are possible!!The most important thing is,as a fan, to give him full support so that he will concentrate 100% as he said.
Merely delaying the inevitable, just hope he performs to the same level and doesn’t get demoralised when injuries kick in and Wenger’s lack of squad depth exposes itself – like it always does.
I notice Wenger’s contract has not been signed. He might admit failure and leave if Cesc leaves, at least I hope so. Then we can bank some serious money, wipe off more debt and get a manager in with spending power that isn’t blinded by his own stubborn philosophies. I don’t believe Wenger would ever go to a big club like Real Madrid or Barcelona – it would be a massive culture shock to him, he wouldn’t get the complete freedom he does at Arsenal anywhere else. Will probably coach in India or something.
Class of a plaer this shopws the difference in players and club look at adebayor and barca tactics cesc is class
i think there are two critical points missing from the analysis and subsequent comments. Firstly, since we signed Cesc aged 15, he is considered ‘home grown’ with these new EPL or FA rules. this puts him in a unique group, quota wise. i reckon that the players who fall into this category will be worth much more than someone with equal talent (none are equal to Cesc) but whom fail to help clubs satisfy this quota.
Secondly, while it has been mentioned, i’m sure a good economics lesson from Arsene had to have some impact on how he defended his position to Cesc. Football is now feeling the global economic belt-tightening the rest of us have felt for the past few years. As frustrating as it may be as an Arsenal supporter, our fiscal position with the new crib, how we have re-worked our debt, wage bill, etc, will put us in a unique competitive advantage against most of the top clubs in Europe (whom don’t have a sugar-daddy with bottomless pockets). Barcelona having to take a huge cash loan is a landmark example of this.
these two factors alone push Cesc’ valuation well past the numbers purported by media outlets claiming they know what Barca want to offer; it apples – oranges compared to the Ronaldo move last summer.
in addition to that, look closely at the debt problems of some of our rivals just in the EPL alone – it is night and day compared to how we go about business. there isn’t a business person on the planet who would rather be in their shoes than ours. A shining example of this — read up on the details of the sale of the Texas Rangers (direct impact on Liverpool yet no one talks about this). you will see how Hicks, etc, lost millions, which only compounds his negotiating position with Liverpool. this was a very good businessman who, like a lot of very good businessmen that thought that borrowing money was going to be cheap forever, finds himself in very deep waters.
Not having more depth in the squad; not having a few more big names; having not won a trophy since 2005; all angsts that every gooner wishes we could change over night.
however, i would much rather be in our shoes than others at this point in time.
An honest statement and a sad one. I’m more critical of Wenger than of Cesc. I think Wenger has made this into a stubborn personal battle rather than thinking of the morale of the squad as whole. What kind of message does it send out to the others that the captain would rather be somewhere else? It would have been better in my view if Wenger had accepted Cesc’s desire to go home and negotiated with Barca for the best price we could get, using the money to buy some much-needed reinforcements. As it is, we have an unhappy player who is only here because he’s legally obliged to be, which makes for an unhappy atmosphere in the dressing room until the end of the season, at which point the whole sorry saga will start over again. That’s assuming Cesc doesn’t get his leg broken by Birmingham or Stoke.
After hitting refresh on the official arsenal site every 5 minutes since thursday lunch time, this(for me)dissapointing statment has finally come…and how did it make me feel, a little sad really!
But what did we all expect some, “it was all lies, i was never going to leave” No!
some Terry/Gerrard-esque beating of the chest, ” i bleed arsenal, it will mean more to win the league with arsenal” No!
cmon we are the arsenal we have class were not stupid! we all know Cesc will be off in the summer when barca raise their offer, hopefully rambo or jack will be pushing for the place by then.]
until then we have to support him, he didnt push through a transfer request when that would i feel of forced wenger to sell, and therfore it was just a 3 way stand off
CESC – “i want to leave, but i dont want to ask”
BARCA – “we want you, but have no money to buy you, please ask?”
CESC – “Sorry, but no, if i ask the Arsenal fans will hate me”
BARCA – OK ! instead we will get all the barca players to bang on about you in the papers!
CESC- Hmmmm, im not sure
ARSENAL – TOUGH LUCK ! 5 YEAR CONTRACT f##k OFF!
He does love our club (just not as much as barca)
@Dirty Turkey: Barca would happily pay those wages for us you freaking simpleton.
The whole truth and how Arsenal played vs Barcelona. By Gooner Afeworki
Aug 2010. Please also read my previous comments.
Barcelona may not have had the finances in place to increase their offer and meet Arsenal’s valuation. The club’s audit last month revealed they are over £369m in debt. The club recorded a loss of £60m last season and even had to take out a loan to pay their player’s wages in June. A £30m deal for Fabregas would have made him the tenth most expensive player of all time, just a million less than Manchester United splashed out on Bulgarian forward Dimitar Berbatov in 2008 and £2.5m short of the price Manchester City valued Brazilian Robinho at the same year. On paper Fabregas’ suitability to Barcelona in terms of age, quality and commitment to the club would suggest he is worth considerably more than the two players mentioned above and nearer, or above, the £40m mark would more accurately reflect his true value in today’s market. With Portuguese attacker Cristiano Ronaldo valued at an inflated £80m last summer, Arsenal knew they could deploy similar tactics used by Manchester United to delay any potential transfer. Fabregas is an Arsenal player, something which Barcelona forgot at times during the whole sorry affair. Arsenal should be commended for how they dealt with the La Liga champions underhand tactics and most importantly managing to hold onto Fabregas.
“Their” decision?!?! I have a problem with that one word. It was Cesc’s decision to sign that long contract.
Dear Cesc,i am glad u are staying atleast one more season. If u had left this season,we wouldhave been thorouly exposed.A lot of seemingly indispencale players had left in the past but the club survived and the departed players proceeded to thier perdition. But u are different.Even ehen half fil,u gave ur all to the club, even when it was clear that u were carrying a lot on ur young shoulders. While all the bruhaha was going on,some arsenal fansustration said u could leave if u wanted to,but inside them, they prayed for ur stay.We all know what it takes to see ur friends succeed in Barelona, while u pined away at a club that cant match ur ambitions. Not even a bribery of captainship can assuage those feelings.I know u would stay if we could make quality signings and win things. If u ever decide to move on,all arsenal fans will understand.Wish u luck and thank u for staying.
The overall tone seems to be I wanted to go to Barca but they couldn’t afford it so let’s hope they can find the money next year. Not very nice for a sentimental fan to read.
However, if you look at it in business terms, he will want to keep his value high and his options open so there is no reason why he should not play well. If Arsenal win the premiership then maybe things will seem different. If not Wenger has a year to sort it out.
I believe we wil see the best of Fabregas this season and at least one more season. He is a professional football player, and will do his best for the team. I believe he can’t wait for the league to launch. I believe he will score at least as many goals as last season. He will be our best player again.
I totally understand why he wants to go back to Barcelona, because of his history. But I have lost all my respect for Barcelona and their players for the way they have behaved. Totally unacceptable!
Let’s stand tall behind the Arsenal! I’m proud of the team and hope we’ll win something this season!
@ Ron – why would Barca be paying his wages while he’s playing for us? You are an idiot of the highest order!
Simply a matter of time before the player returns to Barca.
the brutal truth is CESC would not want to leave Arsenal if we were winning and competing for trophies. He is a world class player in a secondary team, he hates it and his friends at barca keeps reminding him every other day. If Wenger/The Board were to buy the right players we would not have to go through this non-sense. I respect his comments, they were honest but I would rather see RVP or even Clichy as captain at this point.
I think what a f***ing prick. Written by his lawyer. Basically saying he has to stay because it’s Arsenals prerogative to keep him. Obviously wants to go. And this statement has nothing to do with Barca’s media campaign, just this Arsenal statement.
hleb, flamini and now cesc. dont these guys realise that they will be second class citizens in large clubs?. cesc will only play when xavi breaks his bones if at all. till then he will keep sitting onn the bench and coming in at 65 minutes. thats the reason barca didnt incr their bid.
i dont blame case if he leave arsenal for barca this year or next year.i know he staying for at list one year but any body in his place he will go back home cos his from there he have done good job for our club but 5 years without trophy that is why he want to go but here i blame wenger cos he dont buy players
Dear Gooners,
Rest assured, Cesc will go only on the following condition.
Good way…… Barca to offer atleast £60 mil. this year or £50 mil. Next year.
Bad way…….. Cesc can buy his remaining contract for £32. mil at the end of this year to become a free agent but barca must pay him back the money otherwise he can buy himself out of the contract. In this case Cesc must be very rude to do that and he can only then play for Barca throgh out his life.
Think why the Brazilian Robinho wants to play for Santos but not for Man city who paid over £30 mil. City wants to sell him but who would buy him as he is not a loyal player.
Hence if Cesc buys himself out, it would be the same as Robinho.
I think Cesc can only leave Arsenal if the first thing happens i.e Barca to pay £50-60mil. It does not matter how.
Arsenal knows how to play football and the French man knows how to flirt with his “French”. Arsen, well done.!!!!!!
I disagree with those who say it was a blunt statement lacking emotion, and those who think he will leave next year. It was a perfect statement. Had he said ‘I never took interest in Barca, and never wanted to leave’ I would have been pissed. why? because at least he is aware that the fans are not stupid and acknowledges that he cannot take the piss. unlike adebayor who was whoring himself to the media. Those who want passion and emotion will get it. but not through a statement. Cesc Fabregas always gives 110% and I expect nothing less from him this season. The difference is, it will be on the pitch. His actions have always spoken louder than words, and you will see it when he scores an important goal like the one against tottenham last year. he will run to the fans jubilant, passionate, emotional and as intense as always. Yes we have found out a new quality in the man – honesty – but let’s not forget all his other great qualities. He is a phenomenal leader in my opinion, and he truly, truly loves our football club. And if we win something this year, don’t bet your house on him leaving.
The king is back gentlemen. Back to lead the troops. Rejoice, for him and for Arsenal Football Club.
We’ve got Cesc Fabregas. We’ve. Got. Cesc. Fabregas.
Get it through your heads spuddies.
C.Ronaldo wanted to leave M.Utd about 2-3years before last summer but by that time he won them League after League,Champions League and more….What do you expect? of course Cesc would have gone if Arsenal accepted Bacelona`s offer but so would have most players. The most important thing is that he respects the club`s decision and play from the heart.Which I have no doubt that Cesc will do that coz he is a winner. We should all be happy he is staying coz he is World Class and make him feel even more welcome.
Yes Cesc will leave one day, but credit Mr Wenger with some sense, the longer he stays the more time he has to nurture Jack and Aaron (don’t forget Nasri). Well done Arsenal for showing Bar(humbug)celona that they can’t just click their fingers and expect everyonr to bend over.
Cesc is a gentleman, world class player, and I insist: Why does he want to leave a permanent starting lineup at first team (Arsenal) for a bench season in Barcelona, as happened with Henry?
Next season will be completely new for us, without Arsene & Cesc….new team? Who will leave us, beside the aforementioned, in 2011?
I’m sure that Cesc will be committed with us, ’til the end of the season, and I hope (one more time) that this will be OUR SEASON finally…
he does mean what he says he will leave eventually but until barca table a worthy bid than he understands why we wont sell,im really delighted we have him for this season as i feel we will be champions this time,,i believe this will also be cescs best season for as 20 goals 30 assists im aiming for player of year aswell ,,he is the best player in the league and we have im for another year im really happy and proud of that
Cesc has no option than to stay. All the talks were face saving. He wanted to go but Arsenal refused to sell.He should stop fooling around.
How good a player is should make no difference to the way we Arsenal fans react to this. If it was Armand Traore talking about PSG all summer, we would rightly be telling him to do one. Cesc is our bloody captain, this whole thing is a fucking outrage. Why do we still have such a small club mentality?
The only reason I can think of to justify him wanting to move is to be near a dying relative or something like that. Just to play football for his boyhood club is the worst reason possible. He’s screwed us all big time, and many of you are too pathetic to admit it.
surely, Arsenal deserve another Captain. Dont we?
Give it to robin…he will be more careful and wont get injured again
any news on rosicky transfer? it looks like hes staying and the rumors of his transfer to galatasary are not true…
Agree with Lady Arsenal. We don’t need him, if he doesn’t want to play for us let him go. We can get replacements for £30 mil. No player is bigger than the team.
Dear Arsenal fans, we all think Cesc is a great player and the statement is just fine. But lets put us in his shoes, or any footballers shoes. England can offer: Bad weather, high taxes, crappy food and ugly women. Spain can offer: Nice weater, low taxes, good food and pretty women. I mean, if you could have the same wages as in your precent job, would you not perfer to live in spain?
I find it surprising that there are any players in england at all. I`m norwegian and its even worse here, exept for the women which are much better;)
