Will this help bring an end to Arsenal's injury problems?
|Arsenal have made arguably their most important acquisition of the summer — experienced physio Simon Harland who could provide at least part of the answer to the Gunners injury problems which plagued them throughout last season.
The news comes as Neal Reynolds opted to resume his previous physio post at Norwich City after finding it difficult to commute to Arsenal’s London Colney training ground from Norwich.
Harland, who has over 15 years experience in mostly rugby and cricket, is not the only welcome addition this summer, with Ivan Gazidis’ GPS vests idea already being brought into practice in pre-season.
Head of Physiotherapy Colin Lewin gave more information about the leg-specialist physio towards the end of last season:
“A physio called Simon Harland is coming in. He is a good, experienced physio who has been working with elite athletes for 15 years. He has come from the Northern Irish Institute of Sport where he has been working with elite rugby players and he has experience in other elite sports. We are looking forward to working with him.”
Arsenal have also continued to bolster their backroom staff with Darren Page joining the club as a masseur.
All help is welcomed, RVP needs a personal medical team if we’re to have any chance!!
A change in personnel might help but I think Jesus Christ would struggle to heal some of our lads’ injuries!
Sorry to go out of topic but Schwarcer made up his mind and i think he will join us .

A new physio is not going to help if AW keeps on buying hobbit size players. Its a physical game, especially the premier league. Put Mike Tyson and Froddo in a kicking fight and guess who’s gonna come off it on a stretcher?
I dunno mark, Frodo has pretty big feet…
Sure he’s ‘elite’ enough?
hahaha good one Nickthegooner. I think we can go far with great physio. I play rugby myself, rugby physio tend to toughen up players. They are not so paper thin with things.
If we get swarzer and a new def. I be very happy. I really hope they dont make Song a 3rd choice CB
a new will realy improve de crises coz if a player broke a leg how wuld he help? We need to sign strong players Wenger!
Frodo has the ‘One Ring To Rule Them All’ !!! 😀
All we need is Mark Schwarzer n Vincent Kompany.
I tihnk this is good news, at least AW tries to do something about our biggest problem the last four years. V persie has started maybe 35 games the last three seasons. And another thing, could Dickson Etuhu be a good cover for song,he is on his last year of his contract and would be cheap enough for AW. I like him, big, strong, quick and a decent passing.
We should do a triple swoop at man city.
Sign whichever gk they don’t need, sign Vincent Kompany (as he can play both centreback and defensive midfielder) & Micah Richards as back up. Also, Micah supports Arsenal which is a bonus.
lets hope all this schwarzer talk is true and that hes allowed to come, would be good for even just a year or maybe 2 to let chezzers grow up a bit. I like chezzers but surely if we bought a younger top notch keeper now if chezzers was good enough he’d still become number 1… i guess its wenger doing it on the cheap again
a leg specialist?
looks like he is pulling someones arm in the picture !
lol

Looking at the players Wenger has bought they are hardly hobbits. Chamakh and Koscielny are strong and then Nordtveit and Emmanuel-Thomas are quite big as well. But I agree that fatigue is the answer probably, and if you’re a bit smallish like Andrey or Cesc or Robin you work harder. So this season we might have some more rotation since we have the players to do that. Hopefully one more defensive signing will give us the depth to rotate there as well.
Im so glad we are concentrating on signing a new physio…….. we really are going to win the league this year………
I just hope this is the answer for our injuries problems.
1-2 classy signings and I will be very pleased.
Ah we might be get Schwarzer yet, despite Fulham matching some of our terms such as this offer of a coaching role. The big decider will be that he’ll have more of a chance at getting Champions League football if he signs up with Arsenal (probably better money in the long term too – he’s only on 28K at Fulham.)
Don’t think we’ll get another centre back at this stage cause everyone’s so ridiculously expensive it’s probably not worth the gamble. Didn’t Wenger say he wanted 5 playable CB’s. By my count he’s got that now: Vermaelen, Koscielny, Djourou, Nordtveit and Song. Although we’d ideally need Song to be laying the smackdown in the middle of the park as often as possible. We have Frimpong there but he’s not ready – still has years to improve yet but he’s showing signs of great potential. Djourou has said on two seperate occasions in the last 18 months that he has played in the DM role before and would like to play there again. Maybe he’s another option to work on? He’s certainly got the height. Not sure about his quality of distribution or concentration though. He hasn’t had much recent game time to gauge that though.
@Joakim Löf: lol, robin is 6ft 2..just very injury prone
Yeah Gibbs looks a bit taller too. He must be around 6ft+. He looked good yesterday during the England came the bits i seen. Clichy’s gonna have to really fight for his spot I think. Which can only be a good thing.
@Arsenal Future Manager, I think Vincient Kompany would be a perfect addition, alongside vermaelen. expecially as they both play for belgium next to each other.
we should also look to get in eden hazard, if we plan on grooming the next messi/ronaldo
wenger is a genius really! he knows if he plays fabianski he will cock up no end, and then we will be crying out for a different keeper, so along comes manuel back as number 1 and this move means wenger doesn’t have to spend anymore money! brilliant!
ahh so many questionmarks before our first match! Comon Wenger!
