Gunners Bac to their best — Everton 1-2 Arsenal
|Superb goals in either half from Bacary Sagna and Cesc Fabregas helped Arsenal climb up to second following an impressive 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park.
Fabianski
Sagna – Squillaci – Djourou – Clichy
Fabregas – Song – Wilshere
Nasri – Chamakh – Arshavin
Subs: Szczesny, Gibbs, Eboue, Denilson, Walcott, Rosicky, van Persie.
Rememberance Sunday was one to remember for French full-back Sagna, who had only one Gunners goal on his CV going into the game but he doubled his tally after 36 minutes, drilling a powerful shot into the roof of Tim Howard’s net after Samir Nasri’s drive had been parried.
And the Gunners doubled their lead three minutes into the restart when a neat passing move found Fabregas in the area with the Spaniard drilling a low shot into the bottom corner.
Everton finished the stronger and Lukasz Fabianski had to be at his best to deny Louis Saha and Jermaine Beckford. But they did get on the scoresheet with a minute left when the ball was nodded back across goal and Tim Cahill fired in from close range to set up a grandstand finish.
However, Arsenal held firm to collect the win and climb above Manchester United into second place, while the Toffees stay 13th.
Arsenal’s next game is the North London derby against Spurs on Saturday.
Post-Match Reaction: Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas
“The second goal was an important goal early in the second half. We knew they would push hard at us and at the end they scored and we were a bit nervous.
“It was a good performance. Defensively we looked solid, our only regret is that last minute goal.
“We played very well, we were in control. We knew their game was long ball but we did well against it.”
it wasn’t very convincing tho.
yes, now for the spuds!!
i thought we played excellently, I thought Wenger would have opted for Walcott instead of Rosicky but i think he wanted a better defender. great win, can we please win @ home for a change…and let it be convincing this time.
Guys, Sunderland just scored a magnificent 2nd at Stamford Bridge, hopefully chelsea doesn’t get anything from the game, let’s pray for that lol. We’ll stay 2 pts behind Chelsea, hopefully this time we don’t squander the chance and keep on the good work against the spuds and beyond for the rest of the season. Easy to say, but we have a big and quality squad, if the players keep working hard, we’ll be up there. Djurou is improving despite little mistakes here and there, him and Fabianski are showing real fighting spirits at the back. Our attacking was somewhat efficient today. Let’s hope it stays the same. Good luck to the gunners!
Let’s hope that by the end of November we would be running away with top spot, Chelsea need special performances in their next 3 games to get any pts out of them. 2 away trips to Birmingham and Newcastle and then they host Everton. Hopefully luck serves us well and they lose all π & we win all our 3 games: Home to Spuds, away to Villa, and home to Fulham. I just hope and pray that Arsenal doesn’t mess up this chance and keep it up. RVP should be fully back after Intl’s as well as Diaby and hopefully Vermaelen and Almunia. Gibbs’s already back and hopefully we pass through intl week safely lol.
Anyone watching chelsea?? Great play by Cashley cole;) This is sweet!!
Sunderland did it, chelsea is 2 points ahead, epl is wide open again
LOL, let’s not jinx ourselves by making fun of others lol, I hope the players stay quiet this week and concentrate on the next few games and we’ll be in a great position. Cashley gave them the 3rd goal when the game was kinda over with couple of mins to go. Our players give away winners, we should keep quiet and hopefully this low down rocks them good. Hopefully our team approaches what’s going on with the right mentality. Do more and talk less and snap this chance gracefully! Up the Gunners!
Nice game nice win
I am loving it. I hate Spurs. Come on you gunners. We haven’t picked our form yet we grounding results away from home. we should start winning convincingly at home.I love the Gunners.
just gone over the highlights http://soccerblogvideo.blogspot.com/2010/11/everton-1-2-arsenal-sagna-fabregas.html and noticed:
WE’VE FINALLY LEARNT HOW TO SHOOT FROM DISTANCE, AND NOT PASS OUR WAY INTO THE NET!!!
Convincing or not, we won at Everton 2-1 in a tough, gritty match. We are doing the dirty work this year. This is excellent. In the second half, we looked much better and should have gone up 3 or 4, putting the match away.
Fabianski was again excellent. His natural ability and instincts are outstanding. Glad that his confidence is up.
Nasri was outstanding. As was Fabianski and Sagna. A great day to be a Gooner and let’s sustain this momentum into the next fixture against TH.
