European giants await Arsenal after CL progress
|Arsenal scored two late goals to edge past Serbian side Partizan Belgrade to book their place in the knock out stages of the Champions League.
Robin van Persie scored the opener from the penalty spot after he was taken down by Marko Jovanovic, before highly-rated striker Cleo netted the equaliser early on in the second half to silence the home crowd.
An inspired substitution from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger saw Theo Walcott come on and score, before Samir Nasri wrapped up the win. The Gunners were reduced to 10 men five minutes from the end after Bacary Sagna was sent off for a foul committed as last man.
Arsenal have now scored more goals at home in the Group stages of the Champions League than any other team in the competitions history.
Shakhtar Donetsk beat Braga 2-0 to win the group with 13 points, one more than Wenger’s men, meaning Arsenal could face one of the following teams in the Champions League last 16 next February.
Teams Arsenal could face in the last 16:
Bayern Munich
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Schalke
ENGLISH GIANT LIES IN WAIT FOR LAST 16 QUALIFIERS!!!!
I have a feeling it would be Barcelona or Real Madrid (I hope). But our defence is still worrying me, am sure Vermaelen would be back by then. Sagna even made it worse by getting a RED CARD. Nasri is scores again!!! Amazing!!!
yes we all know how our defence line is,also i dnt put hope in arsene rather my hope 4 the last sixteen lies in the hand of the GOD ALMIGHTY.pls all gunners fans should always believe that in football all thing all possible.GUNNERS 4 EVER.
I hope Arsene is playing his Jamuary moves close to the vest. The Gunners need some help at the back, both of the center backs got caught out whenever Partizan was able to get forward. Right now they do not have the defensive capabilities to do what they have to do. I suppose they could put Song or rather keep him in front but they need Vermaelen back NOW and that is not going to happen. Keeping my fingers crossed for Mondays coming match.
Bayern Munich or Shalke please! It’s to our best interest if we can avoid any of the two Spanish giants now, especially that Sagna is suspended. That should have been avoided by at least drawing one of the matches we lost.
anyone realise that cesc has not played in any of our big four games liverpool chelsea united just a thought
how was Arshavin’s performance?
shite deji, he was shite
@Dejilinho
arshavin was disinterested in the second half and was subed. theo came in made all the difference.
Real Madrid for the last 16!
no signings in jan and Wenger throws again away our good position!!! Hope it will be Bayern so I can watch Arsenal near my City :-). Up the gunners
anyone but barca
How can Wenger say that he can`t improve this team, I`m sure we could sell Denilson, Bendtner, Chamack (although he got some good qualities)and Almunia. And buy a center half( Cahill), Def mid, two strikers (Rodelega) and someone else and a goaly (Buffon, Neuer, Akinfeev) etc. It would cost us a lot of money, but I don`t give a shit, its not my money. And it would IMPROVE our squad.
The game last night was awfull, and lets hope for Barca, then we`ll be out and have a good chance on the league cup and FA cup. And a slim chance at the PL. I will be happy as long as we win something.
We go out if we play either barca or real. We are no where near as good as those teams.
song/denilson and the back four were pretty dire. song/denilson had no communication and were at sea on the goal. they both went up and provided no cover to ss and kos. kos might be a good tackler but he is completely unaware of position. just runs aimlessly. need djourou back to go with ss.
nasri was once again our best player. van persie was mostly invisible and walked around most of the time, though he can sure take a dead ball set piece. arshavin was useless. chamakh was okay but doesnt seem comfortable with rvp behind him. hoping for better performances going forward. time to face the music and come through.
Whoever arsenal gonna play in the 16th, it doesn’t matter, Wenger choosed to play a weak team in Ukraine, and we lost to Braga, we did get the second spot, so I do not see how we gonna beat Barca, Real, Schalke or Bayern all 1st of thier groups, I’m looking forward for Bayern, that will be a good thing for Chamakh that played against them last year.
I DONT CARE WHO WE DRAW WITH, WE JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE IN OUR SELFS……
