'We'll see if Arshavin transfer is possible in summer', says Zenit boss
|Zenit St Petersburg manager Luciano Spalletti admits that enquiries will be made for Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin this summer, in an attempt to bring the ex-Zenit star back to the Petrovsky Stadium.
The 29-year-old left Zenit for north London in February 2009, but after a remarkable first season in England – including four goals against Liverpool in a 4-4 draw at Anfield – his form slumped and he is no longer a first team regular.
“Arshavin has repeatedly demonstrated himself to be a champion,” said Spalletti, “in June we will have to see if his transfer is possible.”
Current Russian Premier League champions Zenit are reportedly also open to a year-long loan deal with the option to buy at the end included.
However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already spoken about Arshavin saying he is “desperate” to keep the midfield maestro at the Emirates after exit rumours surfaced again in January.
Arshavin’s contract expires in summer 2012.
Get the money and run Wenger.
Let him leave wenger,he has lost ideas, eden harzard a perfect replacement, young n agile.
Champion, lol. He’s won nothing. It says it all if he goes back to the club where he wandered around achieving nothing for a man of his talent until age 28. It would help if Wenger played him behind the striker though, his stupid tactics have wasted another talent.
great player but never really settled in uk and never really settled at arsenal showed glimpses of magic first goal against blackburn 4 goals against liverpool but way to inconsistent dont go for the loan option wenger he would be 30 by the time it was up to late to sell then.
d guy has not done bad wenge should not sell rather he could sell daiby.chamack
He is really great player. No doubt abt that.
And he can make difference in some games.
But please fans, Don’t think… Wenger is going to buy one good player if he goes. We will lose one player that’s all…….
“He’s won nothing.”
Spoken like a typical ignorant English fan who knows crap about football outside his own country.
Arshavin has not only won several titles in Russia, he’s won the UEFA (now the Europa League) cup and the supercup in which Zenit beat Manchester United. He’s certainly won more titles than most of our pathetic squad of bottlers and chokers.
i think he should be kept in the club until he`s 32, he still has 2-3 good seasons to play. by that time hazard`s contract with lille will come to an end and we will get him by smaller fee
Arshavin is a very good player abcose but his not a kind of player arsenal need know. Replace him with William the Brazilian international winger.
I think he should stay a few more years. Against Blackburn, just 10 days ago, he was man of the match. He has been loyal to Arsenal, is often a great player and an all round very nice guy.
As usual many Arsenal fans are negative and say we should get rid of him asap because he’s useless. I wish we showed more loyalty and team spirit.
Reality check: We’re in 2nd, in the final games and we could win the League.
arshavin is one of my fav players alongside nasri, all this crap about selling him is pathetic, arshavin hasn’t been used properly because of wengers stubborness, wenger is the one that should be sold, hes clearly past his best, if fabregas goes then bring in someone like de rossi to man up these bottlers, our season hanged on that carling cup final, if we had won that then who knows what what we could have achieved, as for the premier league well were too far behind and its man uniteds to lose.
@James: what do you mean “he’s won nothing? … achieving nothing till the age of 28” Andrey has won more trophies than anyone (maybe bar Fabregas) in the entire Arsenal squad. He won the Russian Cup, Champinoship, UEFA Cup and Super Cup. And he won all these aged 27 or less.
Arshavin really makes me anxious because you don’t want to keep a player that is underperforming but you also don’t want to sell someone with so much proven talent either. I think arsh should be allowed to stay on for one more season until we r really sure about his abilities but I fear that by then it may be difficult to get a fair price for him if he continues to underperform. Tough call, i won’t like to be the one who has to make this decision. It was hard enough to drop him from the starting XI in the first place
how about this? for the next few seasons play him on the wing, behind the striker, an offensive role. then, when he`s like 32-33, put him in the centre in cesc`s role, he can do it just fine. make him a ryan giggs ffs!
