Nasri contract talks set to continue next week
|Arsenal will continue their prolonged talks with midfielder Samir Nasri next week, in hope of tying the Frenchman down to a new long-term contract.
The 23-year-old has just under a year to run on his current deal but he has yet to agree an extension with the Gunners, leading to speculation that he will leave the Emirates this summer.
However, Nasri himself dropped a hint in May that he is likely to stay, revealing that he ‘believes’ in manager Arsene Wenger’s project at the club.
“There is not much to say, apart from don’t listen to all the rumours. I feel we had the best squad and played the best football [last season]. If the boss adds some good players, I really believe a trophy will be won,” Nasri told The Sun.
Nasri’s likely contract extension means that Arsenal will go into next season with key players still at the Emirates including skipper Cesc Fabregas.
Meanwhile, negotiations are also set to continue over the transfer of Lille forward Gervinho next week in what is expected to be a busy seven days for Ivan Gazidis & co.

As long as it’s not completely ridiculous we should just give him the wages he wants and we should have done the same with Flamini. Shouldn’t risk losing our best players for the sake of a few quid.
Thanks for the update chris. I reckon next week should be when gervinho/samba sign up. Is there any truth in the Enrique rumours ?
thank you nasri the new contrat Help us to win the title next year
and we hope that Arsene Wenger’s contract with the defenders and attackers to win the title and trophies English and God bless
ÉcouterLire phonétiquement gana i love you arsenal team
Adam,
I partially disagree with you on the wage issue. If we had given into Flamini’s demands then Sagna would have wanted more. Then Clichy would have asked for more (both would have had valid reason because they were best full backs in the PL that season). If we give into Nasri’s demands then tomorrow RvP and Wilshere(our other 2 stand-out players last season)will ask for a wage hike or threaten with a transfer request. It’s a domino effect.
In my opinion the best thing to do right now is give all the new players and contract renewals average wages and BIG/HUGE performance-related bonuses. Kinda like, in Nasri’s case, instead of offering him better wages, we should offer him 500k for 15 assists and 1m for 20 goals(something which he would have achieved if his form hadn’t tailed off during the end of the season). That’s an extra 1.5m which equals to an extra 30k/week. I’m pretty sure that’s more than what he’s asking for. Similar incentives to other young players like Diaby and Clichy (if they stay), Walcott, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Szczesny, Gervinho (if and when he comes),etc would push them to do better. Better individual performances would lead to better team performances, which means only 1 thing – trophies.
Siddhant, great point. They should work for their wages instead of playing in most matches as if nothing is at stake and befuddled liked headless chicken.
@Neil tabbot: We’ve made tentative enquiries for him, but any potential move relies on Gael Clichy leaving the club. Update expected soon.
oga nasri abeg plz sign this contract 4 us. we love u……………..
@siddhant That is one of the best ideas ive heard for a while. It will really kick the players into gear. I heard that sir alex had a similar agreement with ronaldo when he had his 40 goal season
Looks like Arsenal or Wenger is having difficulty to just agree to accept Nasri’s wage increase. Arsenal is a club that will not pay market’s transfer fee for experienced players and now unwilling to pay market’s wages for experienced players. Should Nasri leave, the fans should point the blame at Arsenal or Wenger. ‘Penny wise pound foolish!
if he want to go pls let him go
anyone else thinking signing ali al habsi as a back up would be a great idea? he rearly does mistakes, has great personality(from what ive heard), he is 29 and he could do well when needed. strong competition for szchesney.
imo we should sign him or sorensen, cheap and very useful
Was only just mentioning Al Habsi tonight to a friend as good competition for Szczesny. Like what if he got injured – if Almunia goes there’s just Fabianski, and outside shots of Shea and Mannone. Still Bolton are looking for 4 million – maybe we could bargain that down with Owen Coyle by making some player trades? There are a few possibilities down that road. I can’t see Wenger making it a priority though.
Gervinho thing looks to be sorted – excited for this player. But I have a feeling this Samba deal is just gonna go on and on. 12 million aint too bad for a proven defender in the PL who’s good on set pieces at both end of the pitch – but we’ll have to cut out playing that highline. Ideally Wenger sorts it out quick and then we can nail Nas to a contract. He’d be my main priority but he too wants the squad strengthened first like everyone else so he knows its not gonna be same ol’ next season. Everything started gettin’ a bit lazy at the end. At the same time, there was the usual injury disruptions too.
If Nasri is still demanding more money then maybe we should buy him a bus ticket to manchester, I want him to stay but no man is bigger than the club
arturo vidal available for 15 millions. your oppinion on him?
