Fabregas expected to attend Members Day function
|Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has resumed light training with the rest of his team-mates this week, just days before the club hold their annual Members Day function on Thursday which the Spaniard is expected to attend.
The open training session – which is annually held at Emirates Stadium – allows Gooners to watch manager Arsène Wenger put his players through their paces as they get into shape for the forthcoming season.
Fabregas, 24, has been the subject of a long-running transfer saga with former team Barcelona wanting to sign the player they nurtured as a youngster.
A troublesome hamstring problem is still causing the midfielder problems ahead of the new Premier League season, meaning he’s not yet fit enough physically to be involved in the training matches at Members Day – although he’s expected to still attend.
This news comes shortly after Radio Marca claimed that Barcelona made a final offer of £36million for Fabregas, which includes add-ons and £5million from the players reported wage cut.
if he cant be bothered to train then we will know if hes to stay or go.
Hope that Cesc can make some concrete announcement whether he stay or leave. If he choose leave that might just be a farewell to him. Then we can go all out to sign Mata before the team leave for benfica match. May good bless some good news for all of us include some defensive signing.
According to Radio Marca, the imminent bid, after add-ons, is only £2.6m short of the Arsenal asking price. I say accept and move on!!!
My prediction:
I think Cesc will be sold for the mooted 37m quid (32m up front + add-ons) just to get the situation sorted out, and when Wenger tries to low-ball Valencia for Mata and drag the transfer out to save a quid, the lad will end up going elsewhere (to Inter to replace Man Utd-bound Wesley Sneijder?)for a team willing to cough up right away to get the player integrated. Wenger will then throw a huge contract offer to Nasri in a panic as time runs out, but he will turn it down and see out his final year before leaving for a huge signing-on fee and salary at Citeh. We will start the season having shifted Clichy and Cesc and Denilson on loan and brought in Gervinho and Jenkinson. Eboue, Bendtner and Almunia will fail to find new clubs due to their wage demands and continue feeding from the club like leeches thanks to Wenger’s largesse with someone else’s money.
We may well have bid for Mata and Jagielka, but we’re so far off their clubs’ valuations that Wenger will refuse to do business and when confronted at the AGM he will moan about “dizzying” transfer fees, conveniently ignoring the 32m+ received for Fabregas.
If it weren’t so predictable and depressing, I’d find it funny.
@ed – That’s not a prediction it almost a fact!!!
We should of bought these guys ages ago before selling Cesc!
Fed up to the eye teeth of all things arsenal to be honest. There is very little for us to be that happy about. We are going into the season with the same problems that existed at the end of last season. Wenger needs to show some intent or fuck off. It’s all very well balancing the books and taking the moral high ground by being financially stable but it will not win us trophies. The team is about 3 quality players from really challenging. I must admit Afobe looked good and i would like to see him involved, but he’s not the answer. We need world class players so we can win something now, not in 3 years. I think Mata would be one of these 3 but then say we lose cesc and nasri we then need to replace them just to stand still. Wenger is playing a dangerous game, and sunday showed the fans are not prepared to swallow the spoon fed lies that he keeps shoving down our throats. I want him gone, have done for a while if i’m honest. He’s tothless, has been found out. Has failed to make the changes required and has lost a lot of respect he used to have from the fans. There is a lot to thank him for, but as they say every dog has it’s day.
Yeah will go to the party. He will party with us but not play for us. His injury does not effect his dancing. That is his choice. If he wants to go to Barcelona, well fare enough he has been a good player for us. But why, why doesn’t Barcelona pay the money we want for him and what he is worth?
Is really did want to keep Cesc and was hoping Barca didnt stump up the fee! Oh well Chow Francesco, its been emotional!
Why are we getting so hyped about Mata he is good but if we loose cesc we need Hazard or the two would just be Game Over!!!
The most expensive pie at a premier league club is at Arsenal £4
The most expensive ticket is at Arsenal £100
Up gunners,Arsene Wenger should leave cesc if he wish to leave, cesc is an ingrate because he couldn’t remember what arsenal has done for him, if he could think quite alright, he would have known by this time that he (cesc) mean nothing to barca and if he mean alot they (barca) would have not sold him from the onset,and by now he should try to decide whether he will leave or not. Then wenger should stop biznesizing with the fans because he’s driving us nought.He should go to his home country and die if so he wishes and if he want to remain as arsenal manager,he should bring in experience players.
o most of the fans on here who keep blaming WENGER for transfer deals collapsing should understand that Wenger does not negotiate contracts or prices.
after the george graham scandal no Arsenal manager is involved in the transfer of players. he identifies the players and then its cheif executive and FD that go and negotiate. if anyone is to blame for transfer breakdowns and stupid negotiating tactics then its ivan gazidis and the rest of the team.
we lost di maria cos the idiot before gazidis decided to not increase the figure by 2 million when Wenger had told them to finish the deal at all costs, and thats why that FD was sacked.
it has happened again this year when we lost rickey alvarez because we did not up the offer by 2 mill.
so stop all this Wenger bashing about transfers he is only involved in identifying the players the negotiations are done by GAZIDIS its the set up at Arsenal.
Cant believe this news what with all his injury worries probably breakdown again at the autograph table and leave early to catch corrie
@thenry: is there a way every single shitty person from the staff to be sacked? who decides? can the fans do anything about it?
why do we have idiotic fans whining about buying mata to replace fabregas. I hope you guys have done enough research to no that mata is more of winger than a CM. So no facts first before you open your mouth morons.
@ed: Wow, I agree completely. It is entirely conceivable that AW will try and fail at making any new signings before the deadline. He will then tell his detractors that they made an attempt, and that they were “close” but alas, Arsenal cannot compete financially with the other powers.
We will standby our superior business acumen, be proud of the Arsenal way, and finish 4th along the way. If MU get Snejder, they have to be considered favorites. Chelsea and MC will vie for second and third. We will fight (and hopefully beat Tottenham and Pool) for fourth place.
The season has not even started yet and we already have injuries, one long term one even for Diaby, big surprise. With such a fragile team, you would think AW will just sign some stars for cover, even if Fabregas and Nasri end up staying. Mata is not really that expensive and why can’t we reinvest some of the funds from the Adebayor and Toure transfers from years ago? After all, ticket prices have also gone up and the Highbury lots are selling well as it would seem.
Do we really not have the wherewithal to splash some cash and show intent for next season? Of course not, AW will insist that the youth project will succeed, and this mentality will not stop until we drop out of the top 4.
Last comment: who would have thought that we still have yet to add our most glaring need, a central defender? Is AW really expecting our top choice pairing, TV and LK to play every game this season injury free? Yikes!
@DEL:
Somebody’s been reading yahoo news I see..
well as cesc is attending members day, its a great time for us to show him how much more he is loved and needed at arsenal than he is by barca, we want this saga to end, we put up with all the shit from the barca players, NOW! it is time we spoke up about our captain, we all know that 99.9% of us want him/need him to stay with us. SHOW HIM, its our last chance!!!!!
It’s needs to be said that even Chelski and Man Utd have all had failed bids for players and yes, it must be harder for Arsenal because we do not have their funds. But look at Liverpool and all they spent and they are loosing friendlies. So, my fellow Gooners relax. Business will be done and if not thats the joy of being a supporter. There are only 4 trophies to be won and who would have thought this time last season we would have done well to a point. So, less of the Wenger hating, it only makes others worst.
Enjoy being a Gooner!!!
It really isn`t a matter of `should he`?, `shouldn`t he`? it`s just that it`s dragged on so long. Barcelona have held Arsenal to ransom which, intentional or not, has had some destabilising effects on the club, especially their supporters. It looks like we are going to run to the wire (Aug.31st) and unless we accept the price on the table as a minimum and recruit on the assumption he`s no longer with us we`re going miss out. Whether he stays or leaves doesn`t affect the defencive department and nothing has happened as yet.
It is a disgrace to fabragas that barcelona themselves stated that sanchez was a more important signing than fabragas. It also pees me of that they offer around the the range of 29million when in truth with players like aguero and torres are so much more. The truth is any sane club would offer around 54 million for one of the best youngest midfielders in the world who has won the. World cup.
what we need is a new defense coach in all fairness last season people called for wenger to buy defenders and he did koscielny and squillaci most of you applauded the decision and it seemed to be going good until thingz went awry in the carling cup and it was downhill from then on, the defenders are not bad at all i think its the way the team approaches defending as a whole thats a big issue for me there was time during the first half of 09/10 season that we imposed the man marking system with players putting pressure on the opposing team the moment we lost the ball and that worked really well until the players got tired and slacked off. According to me i think we need depth in our squad players who can probably pitch in a game or two when the big guns are a bit tired our players are not that bad.Barcelona may be the best team in the world but they don’t have depth imagine what would happen if their key players got injured last season they were lucky that didnt happen.we have the players they just need to start beleiving they can win something and as soon as we approach defending differently we can win smthn you can’t honestly tell me that Vermaelen,Johan,Koscielny and Bartley are terrible defenders its just our approach to defending that needs fixing
Every time I think of the “fabregas saga” I imagine Harry potter in an arsenal shirt talking a slightly French version of dumbledore. Perhaps a bit off subject but it cheers me up nonetheless. And maybe this is a similar tale in terms of wise old man and prodigious young talent. It saddens me that I am now tired of cesc being at arsenal. I feel almost desperate for the day to come when he’s on the back page in then Catalan jersey. I’m sure when it happens I’ll be upset but right now the whole process of negotiating, haggling almost begging it seems is demeaning to us. Barca are being disrespectful. They know he is worth much more but are exploiting their monopoly status on him and what hurts more is we are powerless to stop it. Go and put a 35 million bid in for Rooney. See what happens. No “rocking of the boardroom”, no “player left unsure of the future”, nothing would happen apart from a big laugh down the phoneline at the thought of it or an angry Scotsman assuming it was a prank and asking if the BBC set us up to it. What does it say for arsenal though? Our star player doesnt want to be here and his deputy seems to be making moves for the door also. I’m now developing feelings of bitterness around the whole topic. City are throwing money at Nasri, why not exploit this? Stick Cesc on the open market and see offers of 50 million fly in. But then again is that what we really want is there more than just two players careers in discussion here, does it say much more for us as a team? Are we a football club or a conveyor belt? Sure we’ve youngsters that could step up but in 5 years Will they step on too?
@mike hogan:
mick man utd are about 450 mil in the red but let the banks keep leting them spend and spend if it was a small team the league would have come down hard on them
Hi Chris, wat is your Fantasy Premier League 2011/12 code? I was the winner last season but you still yet to reward me :D…cheers
let Fabregas go im tired of the stupid speculation whether he goes for 35 or 40 million who cares we make a major profit on him regardless so let him go he did serve us well the past couple of seasons if he is unhappy the club owes it him to just let him go than to keep him and have him sulking for yet another season and playing averagely when we could have someone come in and step up
we play udinese, should be interesting, but i have no doubt we will qualify
