'Arsenal wouldn't be Arsenal without Wenger', says Frimpong

Emmanuel Frimpong has heaped praise on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, insisting that he is the right man for the job despite a recent poor run of form.

The 19-year-old Ghanaian midfielder believes under-fire Wenger needs to be given ‘more time to put things right again’, claiming that ‘everyone at Arsenal is happy to have him here’.

French tactician Wenger has come in for criticism for the Gunners’ poor start to the season, which followed the sales of star midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri during the summer.

“Obviously this season hasn’t started that well, everyone knows that,” Frimpong told Soccer AM.

“But we’ve still got some quality players in the squad and hopefully we’ll turn things around.

“At the same time I think everyone is being a bit harsh on the manager. Everyone knows what he’s done for the game. He’s done a lot for Arsenal and Arsenal wouldn’t be Arsenal today if it wasn’t for him in my opinion.

“So I just think that everyone needs to calm down and give him time to put things right again. He’s a nice man and everyone at Arsenal is happy to have him there.”

Frimpong’s quotes come shortly after the news that a minority of Arsenal fans have organised a protest with an anti-Wenger banner before Sunday’s game against Sunderland.
