Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will have the luxury of resting his senior players ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton, knowing that qualification for the Champions League last 16 has already been secured.
French tactician Wenger has stuck to his word by promising to ‘respect’ the competition after selecting a ‘strong’ 18-man squad against the Greek giants who still have a chance of qualifying for the last 16.
Midfield trio Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin are all included following impressive Carling Cup performances against Manchester City last week.
Tomas Rosicky returns from injury, while young defenders Nico Yennaris and Ignasi Miquel could also be involved in the clash at Karaiskakis Stadium.
Experienced players Thomas Vermaelen, Andre Santos and Andrey Arshavin make up an 18-man squad which should be more than capable of getting a positive result in Athens.
Meanwhile, Olympiacos are struggling with injuries ahead of Tuesday’s game. Ariel Ibagaza, David Fuster, Jean Makoun and Ljubomir Fejsa have been ruled out, while Francisco Yeste is also a doubt.
Squad to face Olympiacos:
Goalkeepers: Fabianski, Mannone.
Defenders: Miquel, Yennaris, Vermaelen, Santos, Squillaci, Djourou.
Midfielders: Benayoun, Coquelin, Eastmond, Frimpong, Ozyakup, Rosicky.
Forwards: Park, Chamakh, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arshavin.
